Hussalonia Releases Well Timed Holiday Benefit Tune, “Soft Drink”

Those hoping to catch Hussalonia’s the Founder in the flesh tonight will have to make other plans as the Lannie Flowers/Nude Beach show he was set to open for was the latest local show lost to #snowvember. Luckily for us, the Founder has a way of giving to those in need. Last night, Between the Snowflakes, the latest installment from the Robot Holiday collective, was released upon bandcamp. The reoccuring project, which features long time local musicians likes Dee Adams, Brandon Delmont, and the Founder himself, has been releasing holiday and winter themed proceeds albums for over a decade. “Soft Drink,” the Founder’s lead contribution to Between the Snowflakes, sounds like Britpop at a luau, and could be a nice alternative to Bing Crosby’s “Mele Kalikimaka” as Clark Griswold day dreams out of his window in Christmas Vacation. Giving what has been going on in the Buffalo area over the last[...]

Orations Releases Music Video for “Anhedonic Moan”

Brooding post-punkers, Orations, released the music video for the rather dark “Anhedonic Moan” this afternoon. The video plays like one of those B-Horror intruder flicks, where the masked strangers eerily gaze upon the band until something really bad happens. Orations released one of our favorite EPs in 2014, simply titled ep. Give it a listen over at the band’s bandcamp page, and in the mean time, watch the video for “Anhedonic Moan” below.

EVC’s Cove Releases New Track

Multifaceted producer Cove is always reliable for dope new material. His latest track, “It’s the jawn!!!,” is a high energy instrumental that keeps the head rocking. Stuttering organ synths and a distant voice encourage you to “Come on!” throughout the length of the song. Bringing forth feelings of inspiration and drive, it’s the most recent instrumental track of Cove’s to evoke emotion. A member of the ever-talented Essential Vitamins Crew, Cove is behind several standout tracks, and crafted the wonderfully moving album love.gained/love.lost.too., one of my favorite projects of the last year. “It’s the jawn!!!” is another notch in the talented belt of Cove, an artist that breeds consistency and intuition.

Undergroud Electronic Producer, Davor, Drops “City Nights” Single

With the 2014 emergence of acts like Darksleep and FOTISPORN, Buffalo seems to have quite a few underground electronic producers lurking in it’s shadows, mostly releasing sultry bedroom compositions.  Another name to add to the club is home-studio act, Davor aka Davor Majdandzic, a Burlington expat turned Buffalo pioneer. His latest single, “City Night,” is a cut of playful electro pop, dripping in youth and innocence. Take a listen below.

Royal Tongues’ “The Balance” Remixed by Ra Ra Riot

Buffalo synth pop duo, Royal Tongues (Like A Parrot’s Aaron Bonus and Justin Gammella), is prepping the release of The Balance EP, a seven song release containing the title track and a whole lot of remixes of the single. The most notable reworking of “The Balance” comes from Sycracuse based chamber pop act, Ra Ra Riot. The central New Yorkers turned the original, which would have fit nicely along side Grouplove and Passion Pit, into a mid tempo, Discovery-esque number. The full EP is set for release on December 2nd. In the mean time, listen to Ra Ra Riot’s remix of “The Balance” below.

Tiny Rhymes Perfoms “Arrows” at Buffalo’s Unitarian Universalist Church

Sometimes we miss out on material that we stumble across later and are shocked as to how it was not on our radar before. See Applennium’s amazing track we discovered 7 months after it was initially released. Same goes to say for this next one. Back in September, orchestral folk group, Tiny Rhymes, released a live clip of the song “Arrow” filmed in Buffalo’s Unitarian Universalist Church. The lush instrumentation and layered harmonies recall San Fermin, and may give Buffalo an answer to fellow WNYer Mikaela Davis. You can catch Tiny Rhymes at Mohawk Place this Friday, and in the mean time, watch the live performance of  “Arrows” below.

Lemuria Shares New Comic Book Paired Track

This week, one of Buffalo’s major music exports, Lemuria, debuted their new single titled “Foggy Smoke,” the B-side off a forthcoming 7-inch. The track is set to be paired with its own 40 page comic, Turnstile Comix #3: Lemuria, documenting the band’s eventful tour through Russia years back. With the band set to hit the road with Into It. Over It. later this month, this should be a nice to morsel to tide over Lemuria fans until the trio’s next proper release. Turnstile Comix #3: Lemuria, and the accompanying 7-inch, is set to be released on December 9th. In the mean time, listen to “Foggy Smoke” below.

Garrett Klahn Returns Home with New Solo Project

Garrett Klahn hasn’t lived in Buffalo in nearly 20 years. “I just moved back at the end of the summer.” Klahn says. “My mother is here, so for the past 20 years I’d come home for at least two holidays every year, and for weddings, babies all that normal shit. So I was here a lot.” Klahn is best known for his involvement in a little band from New York City, Texas is the Reason, as well as a multitude of other projects. Klahn is now back in his native city of Buffalo calling the Elmwood Village and Allentown neighborhoods home, which do not resemble the humble districts they once were in his younger days. “The changes are black and white really.” He says of the now bustling Elmwood Village neighborhood. “I left in ’93, and then you didn’t really venture much past Lafayette.” So what brings Klahn back to[...]

Silo Sessions Debuts Latest Clip feat. Bryan Johnson

We like to check in with local video blog, Silo Sessions, every so often. Since mid summer, the site has been premiering a new session, filmed within the grain elevator walls, of mostly local musicians delivering stripped down performances on a weekly basis. The last few weeks have featured some great clips from Andrew Biggie, T.J. Borden, and Mink, to name a few. For the 20th installment of the series, Bryan Johnson, lead singer of Bryan Johnson & Family, performed selections from his band’s forthcoming EP, Cool Your Jets, set to drop next week via Admirable Traits. Watch the Bryan Johnson session below, and for past installments of the series, click here.

Nevergreens Releases Latest Cinematic EP, it’s already paradise

Local chillwave producer, Matthew Reilly aka Nevergreens, released his latest EP, it’s already paradise, this past weekend. The musician has been quietly dropping cinematic, instrumental scores on bandcamp since early summer. EP opener, “graduation,” is a jubilant track backed by warm synths and live drums, recalling some of M83’s more uplifting pieces from Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. Stream the entire EP here, and check out “graduation” below.

Baxter Roy Long Releases Acid-Folk Collection, Palms on the setting stone

Former Denver resident, Baxter Roy Long, recently moved to Buffalo, and upon settling in, released an 8-track collection of dreamy, yet challenging acid folk, titled Palms on the setting stone. While most of the album was recorded in the Pacific North West, the lone locally recorded song, “Whale calls at night,” may be the most ambient, sounding like early, ethereal Animal Collective or Young Prayer era Panda Bear. You can stream Palms on the setting stone in its entirety over at Long’s bandcamp page. Check out stand out, Collections of Colonies of Bees-esque, “March of Saginaw,” below.

Camp Counselors Releases “Sighs” on Halloween Compilation No. 2: Gatherings

Spookytacular WNY expat, Kyle J. Reigle, records under the moniker Camp Counselors and for the second year in a row, released another track to producer’s yet-to-be-created slasher flick. The creepy new single “Sighs” has the same feel as Camp Counselors previous works, pairing well with fog coming from the ground, being unsure you locked your door on a windy night, and irrational fears that Freddy Krueger is actually a real person that wants to kill you. The track is included on Halloween Compilation No. 2: Gatherings, the second annual seasonal collection released via Reigle’s Snowbeast Records label. Gatherings also includes contributions from Teen Daze, Psychic Twin, and Medina native, Seismograph. Listen to the full comp here, and check out “Sighs” below.

Spooky Stephen Drops “Boom Room” Session Mix

If you happened to be one of the many who attended our sold out Hamlin House Halloween Party this past weekend, you may have caught Spooky Stephen, one half of Buffalo party DJ duo, Spooky Business, keeping the party lively in between Soul Patch sets. The always busy DJ recently released a new mix cut at DJ Flo’s “Boom Room” studio in Brooklyn late last week, in addition to a fresh mashup on his SoundCloud page. With another round of Halloween parties going down this coming weekend, make sure to add Stephen’s mix to the docket of spooky soundtracks. Anthony Del Plato Covers Stepfriends’ “Strangers, Friends, and Pictures”

Batavia musician and blog all-star, Anthony Del Plato, has long been teasing his forthcoming local covers album. This weekend, he released the first track that could be a part of the project, a cover of “Strangers, Friends, and Pictures” from emo revisionists, Stepfriends. The original has been floating around bandcamp for a few months now, and was formally released this past Tuesday as part of Stepfriends’ debut album, All We’ve Got. Del Plato delivers a lush and gripping interpretation, departing from the bursting pep of Stepfriends’ initial take. Listen to the original over at Stepfriends’ bandcamp page, and check out Del Plato’s cover below.
