Tonight: The Tins

With the advent of 107.7’s Kerfuffle event becoming the start of a Buffalo tradition, so too is the local after-party that surrounds the event. These after-parties have been marked by bands much in-tune with indie/alt-pop sound of the Kerfuffle events themselves and often by artists who easily could be slated for the event itself. This season that after-party takes place at Buffalo Iron Works with local act, The Tins, headlining. The band has increasingly making a name for themselves with their brand of indie rock, gaining attention from major UK trendsetter, NME, and popular indie blog, PopMatters. The band have a tight-layered pop sound reminiscent of bands like The Shins and Peter, Bjorn, and John. The local act’s arrives on the strength of their highly-impressive new Young Blame EP, a hint of things to come from a Buffalo-based band well and truly on the rise. Doors at Iron Works open[...]

The Tins Release NSFW Video For “Let It Go”

Does a 4-song EP need a video for every song? Maybe not, but at least the Tins are making them interesting. From Freddie Mercury impersonators to violence on watermelons, the three-piece indie duo has been getting some major burn out of its latest release, Young Blame EP. The latest video comes from a pretty unlikely partnership in local motion picture artist, Malt Disney. The abstract visionary, who normally works with acts like Jact Toft and Dr. Ooo, took the reigns on the video for “Let It Go,” setting the single to sexy, topless shark girls walking around Outer Harbor/First Ward area, in addition to a lot of other really odd stuff. Regardless, its a fresh vision for the band, and anything Malt Disney gets his hands on is worth a peak. The video is NSFW so maybe wait a couple hours and watch the clip for “Let It Go” when you are safe at[...]

Tonight: The Elmwood Village 20 Block Bash

Tonight, celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Elmwood Village Association at a big street party between West Utica and Hodge where it all began tastefully called The 20 Block Bash and featuring a raft of blog favorites handling the music for the festivities. It’s hard to believe that the Elmwood Village is only 20 years old because it feels like the EV’s been the EV forever, a testament to the concept’s durability and success as an organizing principle for the Elmwood Strip (that’s what we used to call it, back when it was overrun by delinquents and blue neon). That’s why tonight’s shindig is so worthy of note and a good time waiting to happen: it’s a celebration of Elmwood’s history and it’s future and a great opportunity to hang out with your fellow Buffalonians and enjoy the bounty of the city and the West Side in particular, namely local[...]

Watch The Tins’ Making Of Video For “Let It Go”

Buffalo new wavy pop trio, the Tins, are currently on the road supporting their recent EP, Young Blame. I believe at the time of this writing, they are somewhere up in the Pacific North-West. The EP, and in particular, current single “Let It Go,” have been getting some decent publicity this week, including the #5 spot on USA Today‘s “Week in Music” list. A couple weeks back, the band released a short making of video for “Let It Go.” As it turns out, that big, multi-harmony chorus came courtesy of some local musician friends of the Tins, including members of Aircraft, the Albrights, the CPX, and more, culminating in a mini Buffalo, Band Aid type sing along. Watch the clip below.

The Tins – Young Blame

There is a fantastic moment right in the beginning of the Tins’ latest EP, Young Blame, where a synth kicks in and the chorus brings an immediate smile to your face. It is that often sought after moment where a new song hits you in just the right way. This is the follow up to The Tins debut LP, Life’s A Gas, and my own introduction to the band, and I honestly feel really bad about not hearing them until now because this is some really solid psych pop. Young Blame opens with “Let it Go,” a slow building track leading into that earlier mentioned near perfect chorus. Those synths follow directly into the first single, “They Aren’t Evil,” an introspective song about diametric oppositions and always being somewhere between. “They Aren’t Evil” showcases vocalist Mike Santillo’s pleasant tenor (fun fact, Mike is also a real pleasant guy), a classic kind[...]

The Tins Album Release Show at Buffalo Iron Works (7/11/14)

The beer, poutine, and local bands were on point at Buffalo Iron Works this past Friday night. A ticket got you a free copy of the Tins’ new EP, Young Blame, in addition to a view of the baseball game’s fireworks from the back patio. Energetic frontman Matthew Lippman of Brimstone Blondes revealed upcoming LP release plans as the four-piece kicked the evening off. Guitar pedal eccentric duo Eric Kendall and Nick Gordon of the Actors played two sets in between openers, while Airctaft lead singer Justin John Smithhad not one, but three mics attached to his stand to optimize sound quality. As for the Tins’ performance, their hyper fans bopped along to the new songs all night long. Check out our gallery below of the entire evening. Written and Shot by Taryn Alper.

Tonight: The Tins Album Release Show

It wasn’t too long ago that The Tins had been so quiet for so long that they merited a “What Are They Up To?” post just a few months ago that ended with a strangely in-depth description of ice cream. In the last month, they’ve been all over the place: a new music video, a tour announcement, some decent press and now this album release show. Tonight at Iron Works, they’ll be teaming up with Aircraft, Brimstone Blondes and the quote-unquote “mysterious” duo that is The Actors. The Tins, if you believe fellow buffaBLOGGER Mike Torsell (and I have to, because I moved here at the end of last year) took the city by storm in 2012, and this album release show may be their first step toward taking over the country. They’ll be on the road for just under a month, starting in Buffalo and making their way all[...]

The Good Neighborhood

In what we hope and anticipate to become a yearly staple in Allentown’s music triangle, Herd Fest starts this weekend at Hardware, Duke’s and Nietzsche’s. Outside of this unofficial triangle but very much a part of the action, Spiral Scratch Records, Black Dots and College St. Gallery will also be holding showcases of their own. What is a showcase, you ask? Well, it was when contestants came down and bid on things like beds and trips to the rainforest and Toyota Corolla’s and made chit chat with Bob Barker. What is a showcase in the context of this article, you ask? Well, friends of buffaBLOG were invited to host a night of music at each venue by hand-picking their favorite Buffalo acts. This Friday, The Good Neighborhood is “holding down” at Neitzsche’s. And what a way to kick things off! I don’t think I’m allowed to pick a favorite showcase,[...]

The Tins Premiere Music Video For “They Aren’t Evil” Single

Herd Fest act the Tins have announced the release of their latest EP, Young Blame, set to drop on July 29th. The EP is currently available for pre-sale here, but luckily, the band has released the music video for Young Blame‘s first single, “They Aren’t Evil,” earlier today to give us a taste of the new material. The single moves away from some of the more new wave vibes of their last LP, Life’s A Gas, and enters a DOM-like melody territory. If you wish to hear the new tracks before streaming begins on bandcamp, you can help celebrate the release of Young Blame with the trio on Friday, July 11th at Buffalo Iron Works. The release show will also serve as a tour kick off (see full itinerary below) that will take the threesome across the U.S.. More confirmed dates will follow. July 11th- Buffalo N.Y – Buffalo Iron[...]

The Tins

Hello and welcome to the first in what I hope to become an ongoing series where we check in with various local bands to ask that question that pops into our head from time to time, “what are they up to” these days. It has been a little while since we last heard from The Tins after they initially took Buffalo by storm in 2012. And, judging from this interview and their recent logo contest (submissions due April 25), they are preparing to come back with another string of solid releases. So, what are they up to? What is your band currently working on? Dave: We are currently prepping for our summer release.  We are all very excited! When was the last time you released an album? Adam: Back in 2012, when we released our first full-length, Life’s A Gas What has changed since your last release? Adam: We’re pretty much[...]

Create The Next Tins Logo

We like to help our some of our blog buddies when we can. And The Tins, well, they have been blog friends since the beginning, back when “The Green Room” was blaring out of our blog offices, back when they were headlining our first bday party back in 2011 at Nietzsche’s, back when we were roaming the streets of Toronto together during NXNE  a couple summers ago looking for some secret roof top show (we did finally find it). So when they set out for a new band logo, the least we could do was help spread the word. The band will be taking submissions for a fresh look until Friday, April 25th. You may submit your ideas to any of the band’s social media pages/platforms. Full details, including the winning prize package, can be found here. Good Luck. The Tins EP by The Tins
