Tonight: Canetis EP Release

Tonight, make your way on down to the Rec Room to catch one of Buffalo’s newest up-and-coming acts as they celebrate the release of some new music. Canetis, a group of young heavy-hitters, just released their first EP entitled Putting Time Together, a five-song collection that perfectly blends alt and indie-rock goodness. Canetis has been making a name for themselves lately, so make sure to catch them as they surely won’t disappoint. Joining them on stage this evening is Buffalo heavy hitters Post Prom, and if you haven’t heard of these guys by now, tonight is the perfect opportunity to see what everyone’s been talking about. Also joining the stage is Grace Greenan as well as Elemantra. Doors are at 6pm, tickets are $10. Putting Time Together by CanetisWritten by Mike Rakiecki

Tonight: Hollerado

It’s hard to say goodbye. Especially when it comes to leaving behind someone or something that’s been a part of us for years. It is with great sadness that Canadian indie rock act Hollerado announced earlier this year that they are hanging up their axes and calling it quits (hopefully only for a little while). Forming in 2007, the band first pulled at our heartstrings with the driving riffs of “Americanarama” and the soaring chorus of “Juliette” and has been steadily been churning out hits ever since. But with this bad news comes some good: they announced they would release a new album and embark on a “one-last-hoorah” tour, and they have been coming through with their promises. Hollerado released Retaliation Vacation in June this year to great reception, and have already embarked on their tour. The band will be in Buffalo tonight at Town Ballroom for what will be[...]

Eerie Shores – Wicked Disposal

It is no secret that SUNY Fredonia produces a lot of talented artists, especially musicians. There have been countless acts over the years that have staggered their way up from the Chautaugua County college to leave their mark on Buffalo. One of the latest outfits to make that journey is Eerie Shores. Formed in 2017, the band has finally found it’s footing and now identifies as a five-piece. It is with this identity they have found their groove and have released their debut EP called Wicked Disposal. Upon first listening, it’s apparent that this band wastes no time getting to what it does best, which is heavy, detuned riffs. The EP opens up by hitting you right in the mouth with “Days and Weeks,” a 6-minute heavy rock jam with quite the catchy chorus. From there, the group showcases a bit of their softer side on “Ghosts (Dried Out),” as[...]

Tonight: Gloin

Tonight, get on down to Mohawk Place to get your over the Hump Day blues, as an evening of shoegaze and space rock will ensue. Toronto’s Gloin will be making a pit stop here in Buffalo as part of a larger U.S. tour. Their latest EP, Soft Monster released in April earlier this year, has been described as sounding “similar to some of the earliest Ty Segall stuff you can find.” This show will sure be one to remember, as Buffalo doesn’t get many heavy-hitters from north of the border. Joining Gloin on stage this evening is Buffalo’s Chevron Bloom, who’s EP Henry, released earlier this year is certainly one that deserves your attention. Lastly, Niagara Falls’ Ekohta will also be making an appearance. Overall, this might shape up to be one of the better psychedelic music nights we’ve seen in a while. You’ll certainly not want to miss this one, doors are[...]

Tonight: Worse Things

Tonight, make your way down to Nietzche’s in Allentown to catch hard rockers Worse Things perform a headline set. Though it might be a Thursday night, in our opinion it’s really just Friday part 1, and that’s as good a reason as any to catch more than one great Buffalo act. Worse things, who released a self titled EP last spring, are one of The Queen City’s most underrated bands, and it’s only a matter of time before they work their way up to larger stages. If that’s enough of a reason to head out tonight, they will be supported by one of Buffalo’s newest groups, Canetis, who’s newest single is a banger in and of itself. Also joining them is former Rochesterian turned Buffalonian Karsten Brooks as well as newcomers Shid. You’re not going to miss this one. Doors are at 8pm, cover is $5. We’ll see you there.[...]

Ever Onward Debuts New EP

It’s not very often you hear post rock coming out of Western New York, let alone some serious musical landscapes that can take you on a journey from start to finish. Ever Onward,  the brainchild of Colin Berardini, readies for a big 2020 with the release of his three song EP, Learning to Breathe. The EP has a very powerful motif and is extremely cohesive from top to bottom. The ambient drones and soft piano hooks act as the sonic glue which really makes this an easy listen from start to finish. The record, which is self-described by Berardini to represent the journey of a relationship from it’s very beginning through to marriage, and all the stages in between. Learning to Breathe begins with “Disposition.” This song serves as the perfect introduction as it begins with swirling synth drones and builds with guitars and keys as it finally erupts at the 2:40[...]

Sons of Luther Releases New Batch of Singles

Western New York rockers Sons of Luther just dropped the single: “In A Cult,” the second of several they will be releasing every Friday for the next six weeks. The interesting concept will be sure to string us along through the end of summer while it transitions us into Autumn bliss. The track gets off to a quick starts, as dueling guitar and synth leads immediately catch your ear. The sound is akin to The Killers or Kings of Leon. Then, just as quickly as it starts, the mood changes, much like summer does into fall, as Werner draws you in with his sultry voice which is accompanied with twinkly guitars and soft pads. The track resumes it’s pop-rock sensibilities as you are reminded that “Anything is possible, if nothing is impossible.” The highlight of this song has to be the bridge, where the babes draws you in with a groovy[...]

Tonight, make your way on down to Nietzsche’s for what’s sure to be an amazing night full of talented performers. For starters, Wild Once will be making their return to the stage in Buffalo following a short run of out-of-town dates in support of their latest release, Perennials. Also performing tonight is the elusive, yet ever intriguing Brent Martone of Head North fame. It has been quite a while since we have seen him performing, but surely that means that he’s got a few tricks up has sleeve, and perhaps a few new tracks to follow suit. Supporting these acts on stage tonight are atmospheric rockers, Previous Love as well as your friendly neighborhood kids, West Ferry. Doors are at 9pm, cover is $7. We’ll see you there. Tonight: M.A.G.S.

Tonight, Buffalo-native turned California rock and roller M.A.G.S. makes yet another long-awaited pilgrimage back to the Queen City to dazzle us with a night filled with incredible music. Starting in 2015, the mind behind M.A.G.S., Elliot Douglas, has been steadily writing and recording some of the most anthemic garage-rocky songs with no signs of slowing down or downturn in quality. Head on down to Milkie’s on Elmwood this evening and you will catch not only him, but some of the best indie-riffage that Buffalo has to offer. Supporting M.A.G.S. on stage tonight will be some of our favorites in local up-and-comers Johnny & the Man Kids as well as the grungy-yet-catchy Nylon Otters. Doors open at 7pm, cover is $8. Tonight: Kill the Clock

It is with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to one of Buffalo’s great rock bands. Kill the Clock will be performing one last time tonight at Mohawk Place before they hang up their axes and finish the last chapter of what was a great a great career. The band, which has been active for close to a decade now, has released a multitude of records and EP’s, and has toured the country several times, capturing our hearts and becoming  a long time staple of the pop punk scene. Joining the gang on stage this evening are local emo boys Ghostpool, the always-entertaining Keep Flying, Ontario indie-poppers Harbour, and Pittsburgh pop-punkers Eternal boy. This is not going to be a show you’re going to want to miss. This is nearly a sell-out show, so if you haven’t gotten your ticket already, we suggest you get on that. Written by[...]

Tonight, you best make your way down to Town Ballroom to catch the one and only Kurt Vile & the Violators. Vile, who originally made a name for himself in The War On Drugs, has been an indie rock and folk machine, cranking out 8 studio albums since his solo debut in 2008. For those efforts, his trip to the Queen City has been long awaited, and long overdue. This show will have quite the draw, so if you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, now’s the time. L.A. Trio, Twin XL will be making an appearance tonight at The Tralf, located in Buffalo’s theatre district. The pseudo-supergroup, which includes Cameron Walker-Wright, and brothers Stephen and John Gomez, previously of The Summer Set fame, formed in 2018 and quickly released the EP entitled How To Talk To Strangers. The record combines the perfect combination of glistening retro synths, catchy bass-lines, and memorable melodies. Making large strides, the group has already toured with Jukebox The Ghost earlier this year, and is set to embark on another tour later this year with I Don’t Know How But They Found Me. Supporting Twin XL onstage are Buffalo’s own rockers Marquee Grand. Tickets can be purchased for $1.07 in advance courtesy of 107.7 FM, or alternatively $10 at the door. Written by Mike Rakiecki

Canetis Reveals First Single “Warning Call”

The City of Good Neighbors is full of creatives, from artists, to poets, photographers and musicians. We clearly have a expansive and diverse group of people making contributions to the community to make it a better place. One of Buffalo’s newest band, Canetis (pronounced ca-nay-tis) is a recently minted quintet with who have released an equally shiny and polished single, “Warning Call’ to match. Their sound combines the angled jabs and cut of old-school alternative rock with the shimmer and sleekness of The Smiths or Gleemer. The group, consisting of Brendan Hoare, Mike Butler, Matt Sacha, Matt Broconier, and John Grennan, will make their live debut July 19th over at Nietzsche’s with SMUG and Hundred Plus Club. Tonight: Taking Meds

Tonight, some of Western and Central New York’s best pop punk music will be on display tonight as Rochester’s Taking Meds is set to headline at Mohawk Place as part of a tour kickoff that will last over a month. This show, and subsequently larger tour, will be in support of their new record, I Hate Me.  Supporting Taking Meds tonight will be local Buffalo emo-favorites, Ghostpool and Worse Things. This will be a “homecoming” show of sorts for these two, as they’re just getting back from a short run that started earlier this week. Also playing tonight are Rochester’s super-group Carpool, who’s last gig in the Queen City was at Town Ballroom. This super-stacked lineup is sure to be one to impress. You’re not going to want to miss this one. Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are $12. We’ll see you there. In the meantime, listen to Taking Meds[...]

Tonight: Pentimento

The early 2010’s were a wild time for local music here in Buffalo, New York. It seems as if almost overnight, everyone you knew was in a band, and odds are they were pretty talented. You could spend pretty much every weekend at either Mohawk Place or Waiting Room (RIP) for a mind-blowing musical experience. One of the bands responsible for this cultural explosion was Buffalo’s own Pentimento. Shortly after forming, they quickly gained a following, were at the top of their game, and wore both their hometown, and their hearts on their sleeves as they helped put Buffalo’s emerging scene on the map. After the band had released one split, two EP’s, and two full length releases, it seems they had vanished at a time when they were at their peak, and one of the most beloved acts around. However, after years of waiting, you finally have your chance[...]
