Just Announced: just ending now

just ending now, the moniker of Buffalo visual artist and genre pushing performer Jeremy Jermaine Jerome, is set to present A Grandeur Finale, the end of the road if you will in his series of interactive performances on Monday, October 19th at Kleinhan’s Music Hall. Since emerging on the scene almost a half decade ago, the larger-than-life, avant-garde performer has been releasing an intriguing blend of mixed media projects, while taking his one time only shows to the stages of DNIPRO, Soundlab, and Asbury Hall. JJJ was last seen on stage presenting his most recent projects Missing Link and Self (Destructive) at Babeville earlier this year. Joining just ending now on stage at Kleinhan’s will be genre blurring electronic performer Art Lakewood. Tickets to A Grandeur Finale are currently on sale at Kleinhan’s website for $20.50. Further event details can be found here. coexist from ROY Productions on Vimeo.

Just Announced: The Wombats

After gracing WNY earlier this summer with an appearance in Rochester, the Liverpudlian indie rock trio will next play Buffalo with a late Autumn visit to Waiting Room on November 25th. The band are hot off the heels of the release of their electropop-infused third album Glitterbug and will be sure to treat fans to a host of new and old NME-approved anthems. Having seen the band myself play an absolute barn-burner of a set at Glastonbury 2013, I can say defintively this will be a show not to be missed. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, August 28th, for $18 in advance, $20 day.

Just Announced: Paul McCartney

It seems like rumors have been floating around town for nearly a year that Paul McCartney would be coming to Buffalo for a concert, and those rumors finally turned into a reality this morning as word got out that the “cute Beatle” would be performing at the First Niagara Center on Thursday, October 22nd. In a better late than never moment, this will be Sir Paul’s first show in Buffalo during his long career, and for WNY fans of the legendary musician, the show could not have come any sooner. After the Rolling Stones came to town earlier this summer, 2015 is shaping up to be a good year for fans of defining British Invasion acts. No word on whether Herman’s Hermits will also be making an area appearance before the year is up. Tickets will go on sale this Monday, August 31st, for $29.50 to a robust $253.50.

Just Announced: Neon Indian

After two memorable shows at the still missed Soundlab back in 2010, Neon Indian will be back in town this fall at the Tralf Music Hall on Friday, October 23rd. With Toro y Moi also set to hit Buffalo later next month, the Queen City will have the chance to see two of the major players of the often criticized, formerly buzzed about chillwave genre. Like Chaz Bundick, Alan Palomo has also seen his project shift in sound over the years, now settling in on a more dance driven version of vaporwave. Neon Indian’s latest album, VEGA INTL. Night School, the follow up to 2011’s lush Era Extrana, will drop one week before the show on October 16th. Along with the tour announcement, Palomo shared the album’s latest cut, “Slumlord,” late last night. Listen below. Tickets will go on sale this Tuesday, August 18th, for $17 in advance/$19 day.

buffaBLOG is pleased to announce the creation of a new series aimed to bringing back emo music for ONE NIGHT ONLY (every couple of months) aptly titled Taking Back Saturday. Whether you were in on the “mics are for singing not swinging” feud, or if you were contemplating the perfect song to type into your listening to section of LiveJournal, Saturday, September 19th is the night for you. Expect hits from Taking Back Sunday, Saves the Day, Drive-Thru selects, and deep cuts from the likes of American Football. It will all be there. The inaugural event will have DJ sets from Cute is What We Aim For’s Jeff Czum, Mandy K’s Anthony Musior, and In Motion’s Nick Sessanna. Fun starts at 10pm with a $5 cover. Just Announced: In The Valley Below

After appearing as a featured act at this past weekend’s Kerfuffle down at Canalside, the electro-pop duo of In The Valley Below will return to Buffalo this fall with a headlining performance at the Tralf Music Hall on Tuesday, October 20th. The Echo Park  pair dropped its breakthrough hit “Peaches” WAY BACK in the early fall of 2013, and that song is still getting serious burn on alternative and indie rock stations. Whether they have other material or not, I do not have the answer, but I suppose you will find out if you grab a ticket. Speaking of tickets, they are currently on sale for $13 in advance, $15 day of.

Just Announced: Blitzen Trapper

With local shows at the Tralf, Mohawk Place, and Babeville already under its belt, Portland’s Blitzen Trapper will be once again back in Buffalo this fall, this time set for a performance at Town Ballroom on Saturday, October 10th. The former freak-folk Sub Pop act has gradually transitioned into a more classic rock/country-folk outfit over the years, and will see its latest album, All Across This Land, drop this September on Vagrant Records. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, July 24th, at noon for $16 in advance, $19 at the door.

Just Announced: Sufjan Stevens

After a run of somewhat gimmicky releases – the electro 180 turn of The Age of Adz, a second round of Christmas albums, an experimental ode to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway – Sufjan Stevens returned in prime form earlier this year with the stark and devastating Carrie & Lowell, a front runner for album of the year and what could be a personal best in the singer/songwriter’s eccentric catalog. This fall, he will once again take Carrie & Lowell on the road, this time including Buffalo on his latest itinerary. On Friday, Ocotober 30th, Stevens will perform in the Mainstage Theater at UB’s Center for the Arts, his first area performance since his magically bonkers holiday show at Asbury Hall a couple years back. Tickets will go on sale Friday, July 24th at 10am for $43.50. A portion of all ticket sales will go towards Stevens’ Plus One charity organization.

Just Announced: The Dodos

While starting blankly at the walls in the blog office today, our Songkick app woke us up with the news that the Dodos will be making a stop at Mohawk Place on Thursday, October 8th. The energetic, San Francisco psych folk act has been quietly building a pretty solid and consistent catalog over the years since dropping Visitor in 2008, and will add recently added to its discography in early 2015 with the well received Individ. Songkick failed to give us any further show details, as it so does, so keep an eye out in the very near future for on sale dates and ticket prices on the show’s event page.

Just Announced: Modest Mouse

One thing that has been happening more and more is that we are getting concert announcements for bands that are totally out of left field. We usually know ahead of time the majority of bands that are going to come through before they are publicly announced based on our network of Buffalo music industry insiders, but not today’s announcement. After a fairly quiet summer at the outer harbor, it was announced at 5pm on the dot that on Saturday, September 12th, 103.3 the Edge would be hosting an evening co-headlined by Modest Mouse and Rise Against, with support by Coheed and Cambria, Highly Suspect, Boots, Made Violent and MORE. Isaac Brock must have had some great wings when he came last spring. Tickets go on sale this Friday, July 10th, at noon via TicketMaster for $31.03 (only as an early bird special). Yeehaw.

Just Announced: Lower Dens

Following a jam packed September for music fans in Buffalo, this fall will keep the good times rolling as the 80’s tinged Baltimore-based pop act, Lower Dens, will visit Mohawk Place on Thursday, October 1st. Earlier this spring, the band released its latest album, Escape From Evil (think Beach House recording in Twin Peaks), a high point in an already intriguing catalog. Ticket prices and on-sale dates have yet to be announced, but stay plugged up to date on the event page for further updates.

Just Announced: Blackalicious

Consisting of rapper Gift of Gab and DJ/Producer Chief Xcel, Sacramento based hip hop duo Blackalicious is one of the most respected acts to emerge from the genre’s 90’s west coast scene. The pair’s conscious lyrics and soulful production can be compared to artists like the Pharcyde and Jurassic 5, yet possess an eccentric, infectious songwriting style of its own. Blazing Arrow, Blackalicious’ acclaimed 2002 album, featured guest production from Questlove, DJ Shadow, and Cut Chemist, and is among the most celebrated works of the duo’s two decade long career On Saturday, August 29th Blackalicious will perform at the Studio at Waiting Room. Tickets are $17 advance, $20 day of show, and can be purchased here.

Just Announced: Joywave

After opening up for the Kooks last night at the Rapids Theater in Niagara Falls, Rochester’s next great hope, Joywave, will return to Buffalo in a headlining role set for Friday, October 9th at Waiting Room. The band has been on absolute fire this year, dropping its debut LP, How Do You Feel Now, earlier this spring, making an appearance at the ESPN studios, chillin with Tony Hawk, and touring with Brandon Flowers. I haven’t caught the band for a while, but I hope it’s still mixing in some cuts from its fantastic EP, Koda Vista, into its live sets. Anyways, you can grab a ticket for Joywave’s latest WNY homecoming gig starting this Friday, June 26th, at 10am for $15 in advance, and if there are any left, $17 at the doors.

Just Announced: Built to Spill

Some acts seem to make an annual appearance in Buffalo, including the Queen City on its routing any time it hits the road. of Montreal, The Hip, and recently Diarrhea Planet all seem like safe bets to make a visit to the city if and when a tour is announced. I think Built to Spill has reached that status too. The influential 90’s rockers out of Boise will return to the Town Ballroom (one of the venue’s many 10th anniversary related shows) during the final days of summer on Monday, September 21st, this time running through town in support of its April release and eighth studio album, Untethered Moon. Tickets for the show go on sale this Friday, June 19th, at noon for $22 in advance, $25 at the door.

Just Announced: Sleater-Kinney

As we marvel at the ridiculous amount of fantastic acts visiting the Buffalo area this summer and early fall, winter has just called its shot with the first must see show of the season as Sleater-Kinney will help end Babeville’s year on a high note with a performance at Asbury Hall on Thursday, December 10th. After parting ways nearly 10 years ago, the Olympia, WA trio returned earlier this year with well received No Cities To Love and will take the album on a short December tour that will hit a handful of East-Coast and Mid-West cities. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 19th, at 10am for $28 each.
