NehruvianDOOM – “Darkness (HBU)”

The announcement last summer that underground rap titan MF DOOM would be collaborating with then 16-year-old rapper Bishop Nehru sparked a lot of questions. Who is Bishop Nehru? And why him? Why would a rapper with such a legendary discography choose to make an album with an unproven kid? To what extent are they working together? So we anxiously awaited nearly a year for something to come out of it. This week, we got a a new song/video in”Darkness (HBU)” that raises even more questions than before. Bishop Nehru provides some good flows and thoughtful lyrics, but now all the questions surround DOOM. Is he going to rap on any of these songs? The song is good, but the beat is recycled from one of DOOM’s Special Herbs instrumental projects. Will there be new DOOM production? Is DOOM going to appear in any upcoming music videos? Will this thing actually drop[...]

Hooray For Earth – “Keys”

New York psych-electronica band, Hooray For Earth, recently dropped a video for “Keys,” the first single off Racy, their upcoming follow up to 2011’s excellent , True Loves. Featuring crunchy guitar licks,  Wolverine’s motorcycle, and a bike ride through the woods (and warp space), the video, directed by Beau Burrows and Tucker Bliss, is stylish, evocative, and points to big things for Noel Heroux and company, who just announced dates for an August tour. No Buffalo date announced so far, but Hooray For Earth owe WNY a show, and hopes are high for the Fall. Stay tuned. Racy hits stores (and the Interwebs if you like your music in 0 and 1 form) July 29th.

Yung Lean – “Yoshi City”

Yung Lean videos come in two categories: Entertainingly low-quality (see my favorite vid ever, “Hurt“) or surprisingly high-quality (“Kyoto“). “Yoshi City” falls in the latter category, and that means we get to see the awesome things Lean got to waste his budget on. For “Kyoto,” it seemed all the money went to some outrageous alien special effects. On “Yoshi City,” the money goes into a pimped-out SmartCar, complete with the scissor doors that have become a staple of the elite. The video also features some melancholy scenes of Lean-Doer walking wretchedly through caves and parking garages and what looks like it could be an Egyptian Tomb. Over some fluttering synths from consistently dope SadBoys producer Yung Gud, Lean boasts some of his most emotional lines to date. Watch it here:

Led Zeppelin – “Whole Lotta Love”

Led Zeppelin released a new video for an unreleased mix of “Whole Lotta Love” to preview the remixed and remastered editions of their first three albums due next week. While in no way a replacement of the classic album version, the rough mix features the band finding it’s way to rock immortality; some of the pieces are in place, but the sum total of what “Whole Lotta Love” would become is still off in the future. The video is a classic old timey clip fest that attempts to convey something of what the Zeppelin phenomenon was during the 70’s and drum up interest for the new releases. The remastered editions of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, and Led Zeppelin III arrive in stores June 4th.

KOOL A.D. – “Word”

It’s not often that you see a rapper release a kind-of X-rated cartoon music video, but that’s exactly what we got from former Das Racist rapper KOOL A.D. this week. The video accompanies the song “Word” off of A.D.’s free project Word O.K. from a couple months back, and is directed by him and animator Teddy O’Connor. It features a dog and his rabbit (maybe?) girlfriend committing lewd acts, running over cops, and watching Guy Fieri freestyles, among many other things. Yeah, it’s probably something you have to watch at least once.  It’s definitely NSFW if you haven’t gathered that, check it out below.

Tijuana Panthers – “Cherry Street”

SoCal garage punk trio, Tijuana Panthers, have made quite the name for themselves since their 2010 inception by routinely delivering high-energy performances ranging from sold-out concert halls to drop ceiling basements shows. Their latest single, “Cherry Street,” off of the upcoming June release Wayne Interest (Innovative Leisure), is a testament to the band’s staying power, both as a group and in your ears. “Cherry Street,” sounds like a mix between melody friendly Thee Oh See’s with early Drums riffs. The video is even more grabbing, highlighting a homicide detective’s appetite for blood and donuts at some vague time period in the 1980s. Check it out below.

RiFF RAFF – “How To Be The Man”

It’s Versace season everybody! Fresh off the announcement that his long-delayed debut album, Neon Icon, will be dropping June 24th, Mad Decent rapper RiFF RAFF provided us with the visuals for “How To Be The Man.” RiFF first dropped this track about 5 months ago, and comparing the size of his dog (Jody Husky) in this video to recent pictures, it looks like this video was recorded a while back as well. Filled with ridiculous pop-up neon graphics, random celebrity shout-outs, and models wearing one-piece bathing suits, it is a uniquely RiFF RAFF experience. Monty Python – “Lousy Song”

Today, Monty Python released “Lousy Song,” a previously unreleased collaboration between Eric Idle and the late, great Graham Chapman. The remaining members of the Python troupe (Idle, Cleese, Palin, Jones, Gilliam) are currently gearing up for live shows and hopefully a world tour as well as the release of Monty Python Sings (Again) June 9th, because there’s always something left in the vaults.   Thanks to NME for the tip.

Elton John and System of a Down – “Crocodile Chop”

This week, much like every other week in the 21st century, genius hit the internet with Neil Cicierega’s mismatched mashup titled “Crocodile Chop.” The reworked single is a blend of Elton John’s campy “Crocodile Rock” with System of a Down’s cringey “Chop Suey.” The video, for those of you who didn’t go to high school, consists of leadman Serj Tankian acting zaney  while sharing the stage with edgiest man/guitarist in 2002 Daron Malakian along with a backing by ultra-piano pop Elton Jon ivories. This has been stuck in my head for close to 24 hours so be careful with this one.

Wild Cub – “Colour”

Wild Cub dropped the video for it’s second single, “Colour,’ off the band’s debut album, Youth (Mom + Pop). “Colour” is the follow-up to the band’s winter sleeper jam, “Thunder Clatter” and is already making moves to outshine their introduction. The video features groups of early 20somethings tripling up in the backseat, skateboarding, and practicing in empty rooms. It is almost as if this is the 2014 daytime follow-up to Smashing Pumpkin’s “1979.” The song is both circular and hypnotic, with TV on the Radio-like chanting, Foals-y guitars, and a Twin Shadow-esque delivery. Currently on tour with Vampire Weekend, this Nashville quintet is sure to make a spot on your summer playlist. Check out the video below.

Damon Albarn – “Heavy Seas of Love”

Right now, for my money, the only track that comes close to The War on Drugs’ amazing “Red Eyes” single is “Heavy Seas of Love” from Blur frontman Damon Albarn. Taken from his forthcoming, and from the sounds of it, pretty incredible Everyday Robots LP (4/29), the track has one of those reach for the sky choruses that I love so much, along with additional vocals from Brian Eno. Earlier today, the song’s accompanying video, all shot via an iPad, was released. Its a sort of travelogue clip with slight touches of trippiness mixed in to make you wonder if its all just a dream. Keep an eye out for our upcoming review of Everyday Robots, and in the mean time, watch the video for “Heavy Seas of Love” below.

The Teen Age – “Sleep Alone”

This week, IMPOSE Magazine debuted the latest music video from Brooklyn-based indie rockers, The Teen Age. The video for “Sleep Alone” follows leadman Matthew Degorio and his week-long bender ensuring that he will not, for lack of a better description, sleep alone. Degorio manages to encounter some of the scenarios that we all face; enticing beautiful women home night after night, chasing shots with beers, and stumbling into aggressive bros. “Sleep Alone” is the first single from the band’s upcoming  EP titled Ways to Adapt (Papercup Music). Honduras – “Ace”

Buzzing Brooklyn quartet, Honduras, released the video to their latest single, “Ace,” yesterday exclusively to Bullett Magazine. We don’t have that type of pull, so 21 hours later, we are more than happy to share this raucous new era punk track. The video for “Ace” starts with a horrible decision to eat Papaya Dog, followed by many more bad decisions like stealing a taxi cab and picking up fares on Bushwick side streets. There’s not a prime market for pick-ups in those areas, dawg.  Check out their video below.

Adanowsky – “Dancing to the Radio”

Adanowsky recently dropped last month the highly catchy single for his first album in English,  ADA. “Dancing to the Radio” has a knack for staying in your head. The song is part Falco/part Empire of the Sun/all JAM. If Holy Ghost took themselves less seriously and embraced glam-pop, this easily could be their next single. Check out the video plucked straight from the 80’s below.

Hamilton Leithauser – “11 O’Clock Friday Night”

Despite the Walkmen calling it quits, their former members have been keeping quite busy. Bass player Walter Martine appears to be releasing children’s music, albeit with some help from indie friends like Karen O. Organist Peter Matthew Bauer is prepping his solo LP, which if you have heard the song’s first single “Latin American Ficciones,” you may be wondering who the real secret weapon of the band is. And finally front man Hamilton Leithauser is putting together his own solo album, Black Hours, featuring contributions from Rotsam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend, Richard Shift, former Walkmen bandmates, and many more. After releasing the very fun “Alexendra,” Leithauser dropped the video for another new track today, called “11 O’Clock Friday Night.” Ditching the slightly over-the-top feel of “Alexandra”  for a moodiness that made the Walkmen’s You and I so great, this track can be found on the forthcoming album Black Hours, set to[...]
