Georgie is an ever-growing outfit of artists from Rochester, NY, centered around mindful, calm songwriting on banjo and other interesting instrumentation. Their latest EP, Intimacy Hangover, came out Friday, August 4th, including interaction of cello and guitar underneath sensitive and perky vocal tunes. The band released a one minute trailer to the upcoming EP just three days before the release to get their fans more anticipated for what they are about to hear. You can see, hear, and feel the passion of the band’s music within the video as they are all jamming and blissing out in the living room of a house playing one of the songs from the project with joyful smiles.  The project starts out with the opening track “Alaska” that’s only a minute long and it starts out with smooth banjo that makes you feel like you’re floating. If you didn’t think you were already light[...]

Talking To Shadows – Lost

Talking to Shadows continues to amaze their listeners with their second EP, aptly titled Lost. Recently released on Bandcamp and streaming everywhere on July 21st, 2023, Lost absolutely solidifies the band’s reputation as riffy shoegazers. Cat Van Glide’s ethereal vocals take off over the scenes made by Gregoire Palmer’s perplexing guitar work, whereas Ron Weldon’s driving basslines and Alex Hughes’ energetic drumming give a strong establishment for the band’s sonic investigation. Together, they make a divider of sound that encompasses gatherings of people, submerging them in a cathartic, reflective, and melodic experience. Opening with “Soma,” the album immediately envelops listeners in a captivating soundscape, as Cat Van Glide’s ethereal vocals intertwine with Gregoire Palmer’s masterful guitar work. The album’s progression leads to the soulful and powerful “Exit Wound,” a seamless blend of shoegaze and dreampop that resonates with perfection. “Give Me Some of You” injects an energetic burst reminiscent of[...]

Motiks – “House Of Mirrors”

Somewhere in the up & coming hip/hop scene in Buffalo, a voice can be heard with sounds of clarity – it comes from Motiks on his latest single, “House Of Mirrors.” The track starts out with Motiks speaking to his fans in the form of placing yourself in a haunted house and hearing somebody talk to you through the speakers but you don’t actually know where they are. The voice effect that resembles this sound is a very good technique for Motiks to grab his fans’ attention right away when they first listen to the track as he says, “I would like to welcome you to the house of mirrors, what you see might not be what you were expecting, we worked hard to get you here…” Telling his fans that he’s grown within his music capabilities and they’re not ready for what’s next to come from the young talented[...]

Well Born Boot – Riverbottom Nightmare

Buffalo-based band Well Worn Boot takes influence from stylized, western country music within the frame of a ’70s shake rock band. The group draws inspirations from Jethro Tull, AC/DC, GWAR, The Grateful Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Primus, American Legends, Korn, and SlipKnot. In the event that you book the band, you’ll be able to expect uproarious shaking music punctuated by woodwind playing, showiness, humorous comedy, puppetry, and most of all… excitement. The band released their first debut full length ten track album on June 16th, Riverbottom Nightmare, as a mission statement to what their fans can expect to hear from this one-of-a-kind group. The venture of the project begins off solid with the primary opening track, “Boys In The Band,” as the first minute contains shimmering guitar riffs alongside deafening pounds coming from the drums. Not only is it a six-minute track filled with hype about the group themselves,[...]

Starjuice – Sign Language

Buffalo’s own Starjuice is a dreamy punk band performed by singer/songwriter and actor Sidney Flanigan, backed by Corey Wilde on bass, Spencer Eck on drums, and Jeffrey Colson on guitar. The band released their debut EP, Reminders, as a three-track in the fall of 2020 amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic, followed by their first full-length, Growing Pains (with former guitarist Jake Maurer) in February 2022. Rooted in punk but embellished by Sidney’s tender and heartfelt lyrics, Starjuice hopes to make you cry for your ex while you mosh in the pit. Their latest offering, the three-song EP Sign Language, was recorded at Skyway Studios out of Nashville TN, as the band wanted to try something new to catch the attention of their fans. The project starts off strong with the first track “Signs,” as Jeff and Sidney open up with snarling guitar riffs; Spencer with his pounding drums; and Corey’s relentless[...]

Pilot-Field – Demo 2023

Buffalo hometown heroes Pilot-Field recently released their debut EP, Demo 2023, on June 9th. The band was formed back in the Spring of 2023 and recorded this project at GCR Audio over the course of four days. Recorded and mixed by Buffalo and GCR’s own Jay Zubricky and mastered by Buffalo’s Davis Maxwell, the band brings strong, upbeat punk rock vibes. The project starts off very electrifying with the first track “Brain Surgeons in Pinstripes.” When drummer Rob Brennan slams his drums in the first couple of seconds of the track, it ignites the sense and drive of the whole project. Each drum strike reverberates through your veins, commanding your body to move in sync with the pulsating tempo. The lyrics from singer Dan McCormick make you feel like you can accomplish anything that you may not have thought you could, reverberating with late ’90s pop punk energy reminiscent of[...]

Arson Whales – Galactopus

As the pandemic raged and live music opportunities closed, the members of Arson Whales (AW) found each other at the perfect time. Since founding in 2021, the group has honed their sound, falling somewhere on the spectrum between psychedelic rock, nu-disco, and good-old-fashioned indie rock. As time has passed, the band has made more music together – they’ve found a sweet-spot, a soft blend of sounds that work well together while making use of singer Linda Brancato’s wonderfully raspy voice. They’re gearing up to release their latest album, the eleven-song LP Galactopus, due out July 7th with pre-orders hitting on June 30th. This is AW’s first full-length and they’ve packed it full of mind-altering psychedelic flavors while never losing sight of the importance of tasty melodies. Album highlight and live staple “Zephyr & Sycophant” is an upbeat, nu-disco flavored song with a psychedelic touch that perfectly scratches a brain itch that you didn’t[...]

the amazing Lorenzo Landini – “Serena Fucking Williams”

Florence, Italy native Lorenzo Landini, who has been writing his own music since he was 15, took on a positive challenge with his newest LP titled Wins Above Replacement. As he does with most of his discography, he based this album on the topic of sports along with not feeling okay with your own achievements. Recently, his songwriting capabilities have been diminished from the passing of his late mother, but now, he’s turning that grief back into the artistic form of his music – a very difficult, yet special obstacle to overcome. You can very clearly hear this in his debut album titled A moving spectacle for compassionate minds, in which it’s not so much about grieving, but instead, how to use that grief to grow in every direction you possibly can. His lyricism in open mindedness lets his fans know that it’s okay to feel demotivated at times. Doing[...]

“PLS&TY – Yours (ft. Tudor)”

Florida native PLS&TY brings another track from his upcoming EP, 3 Days, 2 Nights, this time bringing a club-oriented “night side” track. The infectious rhythm envelops the room, urging bodies to move in sync with its magnetic pull with Welsh singer/songwriter Tudor in tow. This track admires earlier tracks from the EP, “Party In My Head” feat. Lost Boy, which is currently Top 30 charting at Dance Radio, as well as “New Color,” serving as the darker sibling to their “day side” vibes. Amidst the electrifying beats, the lyrics weave a narrative of liberation, embracing the freedom to be unapologetically oneself. As the beat picks up midway through the song PLS&TY says, “when the night comes down” encapsulating the “night club” anthem. As the neon lights illuminate the crowded dance floor, this song takes center stage, merging pulsating basslines with progressive lyrics. The progressive nature of the song transcends mere[...]

Hundred Plus Club – Doom and Bloom

Buffalo-based band Hundred Plus Club (HPC) stays on par with their poppy, story-driven music in their latest three-song EP, Doom and Bloom. The band teamed up with Admirable Traits Records yet again to record this project which joins the ranks alongside a number of excellent singles, EPs like 2016’s For You and 2017’s Everybody’s Friend, and a split with their fellow Buffalonians in Cooler.  The opening track and lead single “Garden Cruise” dives into the problems of love (in whatever form it may take) – within the first few lines lead singer Zain Shirazi exclaims, “Love makes, Love makes us cry.” He sings with such a cold and calculated pain that if you close your eyes and imagine yourself alone at night, you’d feel like you can run through a brick wall head on. Essentially, that is the picture that the band tends to draw for their fans; being able[...]

Jovi Skyler – Nothing To Do

The latest ten-track LP released by Jovi Skyler titled Nothing To Do brings back the spirit of the ’90s spirit with the added bonus of a warped psychotropic feel. The album grabs your attention with its thunderous guitar riffs, pounding drums, and fierce vocals that make one feel empowered. From the moment the opening track blasts through the speakers, it becomes clear that this album is a force to be reckoned with. Jovi takes his fans on a journey through introspective ballads, adrenaline-fueled anthems, and everything in between. Opening track, “If You Think So” sounds like The Beatles mixed with Nirvana and a touch of Sonic Youth (and also a hint of Kurt Vile) – spindly riffs lay overtop super-intense drum rolls while Jovi huffs and whispers in a way that would make 1993 proud. His lyrics to “Think” explore themes of love in relationships, even though they might not[...]

Marella – “Rock and Roll Phase”

The track created by San Jose California native Marella titled “Rock and Roll Phase” serves as the third track on the 13-track LP titled Posterboy. The song is a charming, indie pop song that beautifully encapsulates the journey of yearning for an unrequited love. With its whimsical melodies and heartfelt lyrics, the song takes listeners on a captivating adventure of self-discovery and discovering love. Marella opens the track with the line, “She’s in a haze, in her rock and roll phase,” seizing the thought of finding true love with a scene-adjacent individual. The bittersweet-yet-hopeful vocals tell a tale of searching through the vastness of Marella’s experiences, only to stumble upon that one elusive connection that changes everything.  The irresistible blend of shimmering guitars, ethereal synths, and pulsating beats creates a soundscape that mirrors the excitement and anticipation of a newfound romance. As the next line in the chorus after “in[...]

Paul Cherry (featuring Kate Bollinger)- “OBO”

Los Angeles, California native Paul Cherry brings an uplifting vibe on his latest single release “OBO” with a feature from fellow California native Kate Bollinger. The opening of this track gets your attention immediately by a couple of quick drums followed by Kate’s beautiful vocals. The instruments used in the beat makes you picture yourself on a beach surrounded by palm trees sipping on your favorite drink. One of my favorite elements of the track is the storytelling within; as soon as Paul starts singing, his first lyrics are, “Hey, thanks for your reply, let’s meet tonight.” The storytelling is executed perfectly, as you feel like you are eavesdropping on their conversation, but in reality, that’s exactly what they want the fans to think. The delivery of the track is done extremely well as it’s not only a lovey conversation, but also an uplifting buoyant vibe.  “OBO” is an enchanting[...]
