Gimme Shelter to Screen at the North Park Theatre

Next Thursday, July 2nd, the North Park Theatre will be starting the final countdown to the Rolling Stones’ show at Ralph Wilson Stadium by hosting a special screening of Gimme Shelter. Directed by Albert and David Maysles and Charlotte Zerwin, Gimme Shelter is the legendary and harrowing documentary that chronicled the Stones’ 1969 tour and the infamous Altamont Free Concert that unofficially ended the Summer of Love and the 60’s in general, and it’s everything you’ve ever heard about it. This is an absolute must for 1) Stones fans, 2) documentary film lovers (the Maysles brothers!), and 3) film buffs, and you have two chances to see it on the North Park big screen next Thursday at 7pm and 9:30pm Tickets can be purchased at the box office or online here.

Just Announced: Built to Spill

Some acts seem to make an annual appearance in Buffalo, including the Queen City on its routing any time it hits the road. of Montreal, The Hip, and recently Diarrhea Planet all seem like safe bets to make a visit to the city if and when a tour is announced. I think Built to Spill has reached that status too. The influential 90’s rockers out of Boise will return to the Town Ballroom (one of the venue’s many 10th anniversary related shows) during the final days of summer on Monday, September 21st, this time running through town in support of its April release and eighth studio album, Untethered Moon. Tickets for the show go on sale this Friday, June 19th, at noon for $22 in advance, $25 at the door.

Just Announced: Sleater-Kinney

As we marvel at the ridiculous amount of fantastic acts visiting the Buffalo area this summer and early fall, winter has just called its shot with the first must see show of the season as Sleater-Kinney will help end Babeville’s year on a high note with a performance at Asbury Hall on Thursday, December 10th. After parting ways nearly 10 years ago, the Olympia, WA trio returned earlier this year with well received No Cities To Love and will take the album on a short December tour that will hit a handful of East-Coast and Mid-West cities. Just Announced: Bully

After receiving some serious buzz throughout the blogosphere for its debut LP, Feels Like, the Nashville quartet of Bully is set to ride said buzz into Mohawk Place this fall on Saturday, September 26th. Referred to as a female fronted Cloud Nothings by some, the band’s debut record is a collection of anthemic punk-pop filled with angst and aggression, so the comparison seems apt. While Feels Like does not drop until June 23rd, its currently streaming in full over on NPR’s First Listen. While ticket prices have yet to be announced, you can grab one for the fall engagement starting this Friday.

Just Announced: Title Fight

Title Fight is a polarizing band. Their newest record, Hyperview, eschews the melodic hardcore/punk that their fanbase was built upon for chorus-drenched guitars and far-off vocals. But cries of indie-crossover have fallen upon deaf ears here at buffaBLOG, and we’re sure their stop through Buffalo will be a raucous time for punks and shoegazers alike. Rounding out the evening will be a set from the still-buzzing indie wunderkinds in Alex G. The show is all the way out on October 23rd, but sometimes these things tend to sell out. You can grab tickets starting this Friday at 10am for $15 or $17 if you wait until the day of.

Just Announced: Ratatat

The Rapids Theater up in Niagara Falls apparently decided to get on this ridiculous late summer fun and book Ratatat to perform on Thursday, September 3rd, as the NYC experimental, electro-rock duo will be on tour to support its latest record, Magnifique (7/17). The new material should be properly road tested after the pair runs through a shorter festival itinerary during the back half of summer as it moves on to a run of theater shows. Tickets for the September gig on sale this Friday, June 12th, at noon for $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

Seasoned Brooklyn MC, Talib Kweli, will be in town this summer as part of his Midsummer Nights Dream Tour, which is set to include a stop at Waiting Room on Wednesday, July 15th. Going strong for 20 years, the Black Star member is one of the genre’s most socially conscious and thought provoking lyricists, so make sure to set the night aside to catch one of hip hop’s finest artists. Tickets on sale this Friday, June 12th, at 10am for $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

Just Announced: The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die

There was a time where I thought And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead was the longest band name ever. How naive of me. With that being said, After Dark announced this afternoon that the atmospheric indiemo octet, The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die (TWIABP), would be making a stop at Waiting Room on Friday, August 14th.  Fans of Explosions in the Sky, The Front Bottoms, or early Taking Back Sunday should buy tickets when they go on sale Friday, June 5th via Ticketfly.com. Another layer of this already delicious bill is the addition of Pianos Become Teeth  on this bill. Make sure you are over 16 or you bring your parent/cool guardian.

Just Announced: Toro y Moi

Toro y Moi, the ever evolving project from musician Chaz Bundick, will be making its Buffalo debut later this fall on Tuesday, September 29th at Waiting Room. Just Announced: The Both feat. Aimee Mann & Ted Leo

So Aimee Mann and Ted Leo have a band together called The Both? But when? How? Upon further research, the two longtime singer/songwriters (the former began her career with ‘Til Tuesday and the latter frequently records/performs with the Pharmacists) paired up in 2013 and released their self-titled debut last year. And upon even further research, I really like what I hear. This is very interesting. What is even more interesting is the duo will be bringing The Both to the Tralf Music Hall on Friday, August 14th. All has been a bit quiet on the Beach House front lately as the duo has been prepping the follow up album to 2012’s Bloom. Since its debut back in 2006, the Baltimore group has released a string of stellar, and at most times, flat out gorgeous albums, establishing itself one of the best acts of the dream pop genre. And with said new album, titled Depression Cherry, dropping on August 28th, Beach House has just announced a massive world tour, one whose itinerary includes a date at Town Ballroom on Friday, August 21st, the band’s first Buffalo date since June of 2010.
