The Faded North – “Security”

The Faded North take on the next leg of their sonic journey with their single “Security.” The band’s mix of Brit rock, post-punk, and alternative align similarly with the likes of Interpol, The Vaccines, and Foals. The video for this track pictures vintage film compilations in what appears to be a raw commentary on today’s political climate, masked as a tourism ad. The three-piece has since traded in their UK residency for their current home base in Vienna, and this theme of relocation deeply wound into the video’s essence. Take in the full experience below, and find the band’s recent EP What Did I Miss? here.

Goo Goo Dolls One Of Several ’90s Bands On Tour This Summer

Dedicated music fans know that most bands that even reach a moderate level of success don’t stop touring if they can help it. This is particularly true now that streaming accounts for most of people’s music acquisition and it’s harder for bands to make money on singles or album sales. Tours bring in the cash, so most bands that are able to are going to stay on the road as long as they can. This is actually pretty cool for fans of artists and groups from past decades. Sure, it can be kind of sad to catch a group past its prime, but it’s equally awesome to see your favorite artists long after you thought you’d have the chance catch them again. This summer, there are a number of pretty big ‘90s bands out on tour, and it just so happens that acclaimed Buffalo boys Goo Goo Dolls are part[...]

Just Announced: Lazlo Hollyfeld & Friends Play LCD Soundsystem

It’s never too early to plan for Halloween. With Every Time I Die set to hit the road for the spooky season, we had to put our annual Soul Patch Halloween bash on hold for the year and look elsewhere for our yearly rager. In comes Lazlo Hollyfeld. The long time experimental rockers, fresh off tackling Radiohead’s In Rainbows and then some this spring and summer, will next take on the catalog of DFA heavyweights LCD Soundsystem on Friday, October 28th at Mohawk Place. The legendary dance-punk group triumphantly returned to the festival stages this year, and with a new album in the works, it seemed hitting for the Buffalo band to dive into James Murphy and crew’s collection of tracks. Joining the Lazlo crew will be tribute band Girl Jeans. Led by Humble Braggers’ Tom Burtless, the fresh-to-the-scene cover group will cover all of your favorite emo/screamo/scenester hits of the past.[...]

Just Announced: Herd Fest

For the past six months, we’ve been chugging along trying to put together our third annual Herd Music Festival. The festival, which began in 2014, aimed to gather all of Western New York’s up-and-coming bands into one hustled weekend that showcased the city’s growing music scene. In the past we partnered up with various labels and collectives to deliver snapshots of cultures and tastes, but this year we decided to try something new – centralized programming and open applications. With centralized programming this put a lot more pressure and workload on our staff as opposed to working with conjunction with another organization. This will aid to ensure time flow management. We are positive that with this, showtimes will be close to the announced times, allowing festival-goers the opportunity to drop in and out of shows and curate their own concert experience. We’ve also developed an app for both Google and Apple IOS,[...]

Just Announced: Black Lips

Atlanta garage rock rascals, Black Lips, revealed on their website that they will be coming to Buffalo this summer and playing a venue that is bringing in more and more indie talents. Black Lips will be playing Nietzsche’s on Saturday, July 16th, with pre-sale tickets going for $15 plus modest Ticket Masters fees, like the luxury of printing your ticket for yourself or something. This will probably sell out so I would really suggest getting a ticket now rather than later because Nietzsche’s doesn’t hold much more than 225 people.

Just Announced: buffaBLOG’s Sixth Birthday Party

It seems like just yesterday that buffaBLOG was obsessively writing about Love Scenes, The Bird Day, and Arctic Death, but after checking the site stats, it seems as though this was five plus years ago. This means we are turning six. It’s time to celebrate. Please join us on Saturday, March 26th at Nietzsche’s where we celebrate our existence as an all-volunteer blog that is just really into the Buffalo music scene. On the main stage this year we have trippy-sunrock act, The Get Money Squad, along with support from Brooklyn-based fuzzy sweetness Bethlehem Steel (fronted by former Buffalonian Becca Ryskalczyk), dreamy psych-folkers The Leones, and the night started off by scene newcomers straight from 2002, Cooler. On the way to bum cigarettes we got you covered. At the front stage we will have a karaoke set by psych-y Fredonia art student, Moody Cosmos. Starting off the night we will have super[...]

Herd Fest Accepting Applications for 2016

Yesterday afternoon, various Herd Fest social media accounts announced that the annual festival is now accepting applications for 2016’s event, which beings on Thursday, June 16, 2016 and ends Sunday, June 19, 2016 at an array of different venues. In the previous two years, Herd Fest had organizations curate their own showcases based on brand leanings, and although all our partners did an amazing job setting lineups, each year we’ve had the same gripes from bands wanting to get in on the action. “I wish we were knew about this,” “No one asked us to play,” and “Hey I’m in a super cool band coming through and have no contacts in Buffalo and we are playing North by North East in Toronto, Canada and we would like to be added to one of your shows 48 hours beforehand.” Unfortunately, while we cannot do much for traveling bands with poor tour planning skills,[...]
