Hussalonia Debuts Live Web Series

Reclusive indie-pop maestro, Hussalonia, recently debuted the first installment of his Live from the Subterranean Hussalonia Headquarters (Vol. 1), a new web series of live cuts from the Founder’s deep catalog spliced with odd PSAs and videos. If you follow Hussalonia at all, you should know by now the guy doesn’t really do shows so this is probably your closest to catching a live gig from him. Follow the musician’s Youtube page for all of the webisodes, and if you wish to download the audio, you can find it here. In the mean time, watch the first installment for the song “I Now Doth Crazy Go,” originally found on Deep in a Donut Dream, below.

Sparklebomb Releases “Moldavite”

Buffalo electronic act Sparklebomb (aka Angie Conte) just dropped a fresh new song on her soundcloud page yesterday, titled “Moldavite.” Backed by soothing synths, the song feels like communication from distant planets that Conte managed to catch on tape. Sometimes chilling, but mostly beautiful, the track reminds me of some of Apparat’s more tender moments, and, for some reason, “Jed the Humanoid” from Grandaddy had Jed written the song rather than Jason Lytle. You can listen (and download) “Moldavite” below.

Wooden Waves Debut New Track In “It’s Only Sky”

Hey remember last fall when we were really excited about the upcoming Wooden Waves album that was right around the corner? Well, its nearly June and we are still waiting. BUT, that wait is finally nearing its end as just yesterday, the band announced that their Wilder Dreams LP will be released this July via One Percent Press. And wouldn’t you know it, this morning, OPP dropped the album’s first tease in the song “It’s Only Sky.” The single follows the Wooden Wave’s previous established modus operandi – late 90’s style indie rock with dueling male/female vocals led by Ray Fulton as well the pair of Joey and Nikki McIntosh. Listen to “It’s Only Sky” below and keep an eye out for Wilder Dreams this summer. For real this time.

I Can See Mountains Has Gone Beachy

I thought I had viewed the last moments of I Can See Mountains last year. It was a bittersweet show full of catchy riffs, half sung/half spoken vocals, and even a display of acrobatics when Matt Cox jumped onto the rafters of the Waiting Room and swung himself around (much to the chagrin of club security). Much to our delight, ICSM isn’t quite out for the count. Cousins Matt Cox and Kevin Hoffman decided to continue on with the band and have just released a new EP called Gone Beachy. Recorded at Quiet Country Audio, the three song EP is full of the catchy wordplay and upbeat emo that made ICSM a fan favorite in the first place. “My Acquatic” sounds like a Hoffman/Cox fronted Cloud Nothings, bolstered by that huge beginning riff. Soon enough, “She’s My Bobby Orr Pt. II” brings us back to the ICSM we’re used to. “Bald”[...]

Lesionread Releases The Groovy “Open”

Buffalo artist/savant/ L’enfant terrible Lesionread has been busily toiling away working on new concepts and music, and has let slip this tasty new morsel to whet our appetites. “Open” is atmospheric and groovy with some extremely tasty synth lines, and being a Lesionread product, it’s got some off that kilter wildness.  You can check out “Open” live with whatever else Lesionread has in mind for us June 2nd when Minneapolis electronica outfit Polica comes to the Tralf Music Hall (doors at 7, Lesionread at 8).

Low Prospects Release Discovery Zone EP

Low Prospects, a noise-partnership formed by Kevin Cain (the Vault/Silo Sessions) and Bobby Griffiths of VWLS and Every Time I Die music video fame, recently released a three song EP titled Discovery Zone via Bad Drone Media. Discovery Zone, much like the childhood mecca, is full of twists and turns, ups and downs. The challenging project recalls some Feel Good Lost/Bee Hives era Broken Social Scene with some of the playfulness of minimal Animal Collective (see EP opener “Broke Rraga”). If you like what you hear, you can catch Low Prospects this Friday at the Wash Project as part of WSADA 11. Listen to “Pretty Chill Throughout,” which really is, below.

Every Time I Die Releases Music Video For “Thirst”

Local hardcore heroes, Every Time I Die, have released the new music video for their track Thirst,” the first single off the band’s forthcoming album, From Parts Unknown, set to drop on July 1st. Clocking in at a breezy 1:49, the video follows two locals up to no good, one of them being Bobby Griffiths, a local drone musician behind projects like VWLS and Low Prospects, over at Spiral Scratch, Holly Farms, the First Ward, and other spots around the Buffalo city area while making their way to an ETID show. Maybe next time they could just take mass transit. Check out the video for “Thirst” below.

Five Acts To See At Buffalo Porchfest

The Elmwood Village’s Buffalo Porchfest is back for its second installment tomorrow from 12pm to 6pm. After debuting in early October, the one-day festival has grown bigger and better, boasting an impressive collection of local talent performing on porches and balconies all over the village for its spring installment. As with most fests, deciding on what to check out is always the hardest part. While you can view the full map and schedule here, we thought we would make your life a bit easier and let you know the top five acts to check out tomorrow. Brimstone Blondes @ 586 Lafayette Ave (1pm-2pm) We’ve been a fan of the Blondes since we stumbled upon them a few years back while hesitantly scoping out the lineup for a high school battle of the bands competition. The four-piece is a best described as throwback B-52s meets Talking Heads-esque outfit centered around lead singer Matthew[...]

Settlers Release Animated Video For “Proskater”

The former Buffalo-bred two-piece turned Portland-based trio, Settlers, released the animated clip for their single “Proskater” last night. Directed by Jack Graydon, the clip shows images of warped wiener dogs, skateboarding hounds, and lots of beer floating towards the viewer over the booming, instrumental surf jam. It’s been a little while since we heard from our favorite former Jungle Gym noise rockers so keep an eye out on both coasts for future updates. Watch the video for “Proskater” below. Settlers from Toiletsnake Productions on Vimeo.

Radarada Drops Music Video For “Topanga”

With countless live crowd shots on Youtube, it seemed to be about time that Radarada sat down to release something proper. And just as the hip-hop collective is set to drop its debut EP, First Edition, in early June, an EP tease in the form of the music video for “Topanga” was released this afternoon. Filmed at the Bird Cage, the laid clip features Tommy Too, Little Cake, and the rest of Radarada performing the jazz infused tune. Without a doubt, this is one of the most charismatic acts coming out of Buffalo, and as you may remember, they were one of our five-ish bands to watch in 2014. Watch the video for “Topanga” below and catch the Rada crew celebrate the release of the First Edition EP, along with Dr. Ooo and Jack Toft, at Buffalo Iron Works on June 7th.

Pizza Pizza Dishes Out a New Slice

Slice 19 is the latest track from versatile Buffalo electronic artist Pizza Pizza. In the past we’ve heard a fusion of trap, electronic, and moombahton from Yung Zza. Here, he takes the route of a trap banger. It’s got the air-horn synths, the hard-hitting snares, and the repeatedly cocked gun, essential to a great trap track. Slice 19 is a testament to the consistent quality that Pizza Pizza should be recognized for. This is his 19th song in the last two months alone, and we can only expect more coming. Listen to it here:

Zealot Shares “Blanket Fort” Demo

For all of the talk this blog has give to Fredonia fuzz trio, Zealot, over the last few months, the band only has one track to its name, the very good debut single “Magic Eye.” The band doubled its catalog size today by releasing a fresh demo titled “Blanket Fort.” The welcome No Age comparisons are going nowhere on this reverb and shout heavy track. Word is the band will be releasing its debut EP some time this summer to keep an eye out. In the mean time, listen to “Blanket Fort” below.

Frigid Giant Drops From My Cold Dead Hands

This past weekend, Buffalo rapper Frigid Giant held the release party for his excellent new album From My Cold Dead Hands. Those who attended that show have a vital recording of one of the freshest voices to emerge on the Buffalo hip-hop scene. Throughout its 42-minute running time, From My Cold Dead Hands is packed with witty, conscious lyrics, and well-produced beats with a futuristic sound that points to hip-hop’s next wave. It’s a brilliant record all around. A big part of Frigid Giant’s charm is the ability to mix bravado with self-deprecating humor. While he often boasts about his skills as an MC (he can definitely back these claims up), he also is quite honest when he jokes about sleeping till noon and being broke. Our narrator is aware of his considerable talents and his not shy about his ambitious. But he also acknowledges that for now, as he’s[...]

Jeremy Jermaine Jerome Releases Video for “coexist”

It’s been a while since we last heard from Jeremy Jermaine Jerome, a Carolina-raised, Buffalo-rooted abstract emcee (mostly because he has sworn off any-and-all social media). So with this, we were delighted to receive an e-mail from him this morning  which included a link to his latest music video, “coexist.” The video, much like others in JJJ’s repertoire, is an avant-garde piece layered with Jerome’s hushed staccato rapping . In “coexist,” Jerome proves once again his divergent performance art and poems are something to be noticed. This may be a little editorializing, and whatever this is a blog, but JJJ makes the best music videos in Buffalo. Every one is different and it is obvious that the rapper thoroughly thinks through his projects’ locations, props, and scenarios.  Other acts should take notice because we’re becoming a little waned from these repetitive narratives. coexist from ROY Productions on Vimeo.

Anteek Recipes Release B-Sides Collection From Upcoming Debut

Self-described “jazzy hip hop heads,” Anteek Recipes, have released The EP, a collection of 11 B-sides that did not make the cut for their forthcoming debut album. The album stays true to the group’s namesake, as the project is littered with the components of traditional, Golden Age-era hip hop music. Mr. Dirty Hairy handles the production for the duration of the project. Each beat appears to be a nod to the early-mid 90s production of artists like A Tribe Called Quest and DJ Premier, complete with the jazz samples and the DJ scratches. Dirty Hairy, all the way from Zagreb, Croatia, continuously demonstrates his understanding of the New York hip hop sound. Buffalo’s own Shuteyes takes care of the vocals on the EP. His deep, gritty voice compliments the production of Dirty and really helps capture that golden age aura that they’re all about. Shuteyes’ lyrics also circle around  the theme[...]
