tøbin – “Can’t Explain”

The intro to the Lost Soul EP via Buffalo artist tøbin seems as if it’s the intro to something more; something bigger. The 18-year-old singer/songwriter speaks on what he “Can’t Explain” in a way anyone can relate to. It sounds almost as if tøbin has found comfort in the numbing concept within the sample saying, “it feels just right, I love it” as he joins in with a haunting yet euphoric “Can’t Explain it.” The verses take you through the thoughts of a Lost Soul and where those thoughts take them. Oh, let’s not forget that this was his debut project; see what I mean when I say it’s something more? Stream it on Spotify and Apple Music tøbin · Can’t Explain

B-rent – Everything For Paige

Somewhere in the up & coming hip/hop scene in Buffalo, a voice can be heard with sounds of sincerity; the voice comes from B-rent on his debut LP: Everything for Paige. The album resembles something like a modern day Shakespeare tragedy reflecting the beauty in despair. He shows his fans what rock bottom has taught him before he reaches the mountain top he’s climbing. The fuel to the flame of “Everything For Paige” was unmistakably gifted from his late sister, Paige Casillo. Tracks like “This Broke” resemble how hollow a heart that was once full still beats with as much purpose as the percussion in his music. While tracks like “Exposed” demonstrate how to run through problems (or brick walls)  head-on. The theme of the eleven track LP burns the brightest on track 10, “WITH ME, WITH YOU,” as B-rent belts out lines like “freestyle flows ain’t no need for[...]

Rum Jungle – “Upbeat Lord”

All hail the “Upbeat Lord” from the kingdom of Rum Jungle. This fancy little jingle is exactly what it sounds like; but better. Grab your shades because “Upbeat Lord” brings out the light in any setting, it’s got everything from the groovy chord progressions, the two-step drum pattern; it even has the nostalgic high pitched “ouuu’s.” “Upbeat Lord” is the second single off of Rum Jungle’s anticipated EP “Everything is Easy.” The band is taking the light with them on their Everything is Easy EP tour through Australia from June 17th to July 30th. T-O x My Friend Shawn – “BEDSHEETS”

Hear the wind and feel the breeze with T-O and My Friend Shawn on their incredible collaboration, “BEDSHEETS.” Beautiful, soothing, whisper-tone hooks followed by a trippy switch up halfway through will take you by the most pleasant surprise. The song starts and ends with the faint audio of a phone call which grants the song the symmetry factor despite its abstract layout of sections. Cloud-like production on the instrumentals garnished with damp vocals are just two factors of what made “BEDSHEETS” the perfect storm. Stream it on Apple Music and Spotify

Animal Sounds – “Miles (Jonas Song)”

Leave it to the Rochester band Animal Sounds to present us with a song that you could bellow through canyons far and wide. Built around a bouncing bassline and twinkly guitar textures, their latest, “Miles (Jonas Song),” sounds of an echoed call for salvation that we’ve heard in our heads from time to time. “It’s hard to build up a temple on miles and miles and miles of wasteland” is a line I had to take a second to digest in full, and as soon as I did, I was hit right in the feels. Feeling like doing some constructive reflecting on your past for a better future? Listen to Animal Sounds. Stream it on Apple Music and Spotify

Hussalonia – The Somewhat Surprising Re-Recording of Marsupial Garamond Hussalonia

Legend says in the year of 1997, a pop music cult was born via the Nefarico soap company and named Hussalonia. A quarter century later, Hussalonia has given us The Somewhat Surprising Re-Recording of Marsupial Garamond Hussalonia… A project that was dropped about sixteen years ago re-recorded, mixed, and mastered to the complete satisfaction of not only Nefarico & Hussalonia; but their fanbase as well. For those unfamiliar with Hussalonia, the riveting backstory and completely immersive worldbuilding are a part of the charm. In addition to their uniquely-told origins coming from a dystopian (or, surprisingly and unsettlingly current) world, their music is incredibly pristine and well-written. A truly all-around experience from this one-of-a-kind Buffalo-based artist. The album starts with the riveting “Time and Place,” in which Hussalonia bellows for the one he once loved. Conceptually continuing the tale throughout the entirety of the rest of The Somewhat Surprising Re-Recording of[...]

GZ Grant – “Bonds of Love”

The nearly minute long intro on “Bonds of Love” by GZ Grant has the perfect level of anticipation leading into the first verse. I was also relieved GZ Grant used the same chord progression on the guitar’s hook; for it was way too cool to act solely as an intro to this lo-fi rock banger. The musician/singer/songwriter decided that he wanted to be a director as well on the “Bonds of Love” music video and this guy is a perfectionist. The video seems to depict the age-old question of what would happen if psychedelics & rock n’ roll existed in medieval times? Find Out with GZ Grant. Flora – “Hey”

Tiptoeing in the room comes Flora as you press play on her new single, “Hey.” Such a graceful intro to bring in what’s simply the purest song of the summer. With a run time of only 1:23, you can’t help but feel forced to run it back. The simplicity within the lyrics are what give “Hey” the universal stamp of relatability. Flora was born into a household of musicians in 2007, and you can hear the 15 years of growing up with music that led up to this point. Nevertheless, it’s astonishing what she’s been able to accomplish so quickly. “Hey” is just one of the several singles leading up to her LP entitled Emerald City that is dropping 6/3/2022. Flora also gave her fans a fun music video to go along with not only “Hey” but if you pay attention towards the end, she eludes to her upcoming project.[...]

Belot – “Fake Phone Calls”

Coming down from London town, Belot is making quite the noise with “Fake Phone Calls…” A beautiful noise that is. The ever-so-mellow yet rapid fire delivery offers a wide range of dance moves to bust out. Belot’s voice is very distinct from contemporaries in the neighborhood of alternative rock, plus, who doesn’t love a good song about the mutual tension between two lovers of the past in denial of each other’s existence? I know I sure do. From the streets of London to the URL of buffaBLOG and everywhere in between; Belot is here to stay. Stream it on Apple Music and Spotify

Jenny Kern – “Feel It Again”

Jenny Kern makes that music you hear leaking from the inside of a nightclub and have no choice but to further investigate. Her latest single, “Feel it Again,” will have you scratching on the door, pleading for entry and once you finally get in, it was everything you imagined and more. The Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter sounds as if she’s singing the soundtrack of Shangri-La, with shimmering synths atop of a wild bassline. “Feel it Again” arrived on May 6th, 2022 just in time for the first normal summer in years, ushering in nostalgia that I’m sure we’re all ready to feel again. Kuf Knotz & Christine Elise – “rē(ə)l ləv (real love)”

Kuf Knotz & Christine Elise had nothing short of a divine connection with their collaboration on “rē(ə)l ləv (real love).” The Philadelphia MC and Harpist were able to get their vision of “rē(ə)l ləv (real love)” captured by Dean Myers, and it’s nothing short of beautiful. It depicts a Philadelphia love story so sweet that “feel good” would be a vast understatement. Everything from the lyrics, to the vocals, to the way they sound with the triumphant instruments at work is a masterpiece. Hether – “Chem Bath”

Learn to float with Hether on his latest track, “Chem Bath.” The production is ridged in a way that gives you a similar sensation to jamais vu… You were sure you’ve been here before, but you definitely haven’t. Hether reminds me of how radically refreshing the alternative indie genre can be when you’re listening to someone who knows where to take it. “Chem Bath” takes place somewhere in the late night under neon lights oozing with color. Have trust and take a trip you’ll never forget with this LA phenomenon. Stream it on Spotify and Apple Music

Maxime. – “u and everyone u know !”

The music wizard of Montreal otherwise known as Maxime. has arrived with “u and everyone u know!” and they’re ready to party, with or without you. This lush bass-booster banger of a song will make you move, I promise. I referred to Maxime. as a wizard because he produces and engineers his tracks, and after hearing not only the quality but the innovation, you’ll see where I’m coming from. With the combined forces of angelic vocals, blended into a professionally composed instrumental to perfection, Maxime. takes “u and everyone u know !” to places you didn’t know existed in the realm of indie pop. Lower Expectations – “Talking To Myself”

The alt-rock band from Rochester by the name of Lower Expectations raised the bar on their latest offering, “Talking To Myself.” The lyrics “when I tell you it’ll be alright, I’m talking to myself,” hit me harder than a train. The righteous rock tune explores the idea of fighting the façade you bring upon your everyday life. It’s a message that sounds comforting coming from someone else; we have Lower Expectations to thank for that. Stream it on Spotify & Apple Music Talking To Myself by Lower Expectations

Meltt – “Within You, Within Me”

With the swagger of an early-2000s hair flip, Meltt hits you right in the face with “Within You, Within Me.” The layers of instrumentation are so well stacked upon each other, giving off the vibe of everything feeling just right. The quartet has a knack at bringing a cinematic ambience with their music. As stunning as the cover art already is, it’s enhanced in their visualizer to fully grasp its perception. Meltt will be playing at the Capitol Hill Block Party festival in Seattle, Washington in which acts such as Diplo will be headlining – but if you’re not in town for that banger, be sure to add “Within You, Within Me” to your favorite playlist instead.
