midnight Drops New Single “Promethium”

Rochester R&B crooner midnight delves into the topic of Greek mythology through the release of his new single “Promethium.” In the singer’s new song, midnight brings up the Prometheus myth as a source of inspiration for the song. His gift comes as both a blessing and a curse because he must suffer for others. There is a complexity to the track with each beat layered over each other. Dreamy Buffalo-based producer ylxr brings an atmospheric style to the track with the spacey synths and slow snaps. Check out “Promethium” below via soundcloud.

Bleach Dream – “Drown in Colours”

Back from a break from their music, Melbourne-based Bleach Dream released the second single “Drown in Colours,” off their forthcoming album Saudade, due out in August. Marty Greensill and Dave O’Kane originally gave up their dreams of a music career to pick up full-time work, but a few weekends playing together led to the inception of Bleach Dream. Placing an emphasis on the guitar work, the song has few lyrics that come as faded falsetto. The dreamy guitars come as the focus of the song with each playing back and forth from one another. Supergoner – A Really Good Friend

Buffalo 90s indie rock outfit Supergoner has come back into the light after a break with the release of their album A Really Good Friend. With guitarists Sean Wild and Mike Fuller experiencing fatherhood and drummer Bill O’Connor moving to a farm in Watkins Glen, the band took a bit of a hiatus from Supergoner. The band has been a part of the Buffalo indie scene since 2003, with three of the members coming from the defunct Concubine, and bassist Lisa Yamagishi rounding out the group. A lot of the guitar work on A Really Good Friend pays homage to indie rock in the ‘90s. The guitar solo on “A Lot of Nothing” is reminiscent of the guitar stylings of a Dinosaur Jr. song; loud, smooth and rolling. Heavier guitar work comes out on “White Lines,” with the guitars coming in along the lines of punk, but also returning to the lighter side[...]

Rare Monk – “Happy Haunting”

Portland, Oregon indie collective Rare Monk dropped “Happy Haunting” due off their full-length album A Future, coming out July 7th. Shifting from a five-piece band to a four-piece band, the band had to make some big changes with sound, focusing more on guitars with the loss of the violin. The song gains some punch with this tactic and pairs well with the falsetto vocals. Going into death, the vocals dig deep at finding a way out of humanity’s doom. Eddy I. – “Unapologetic”

Staten Island-based Eddy I. turns up the heat with his new single “Unapologetic.” Coming as the first single from Eddy I. since he’s started battle rapping, he shifts more towards verse-based rapping from freestyling. The up and coming emcee still brings some of his characteristics from battle rapping to the track. He brings a high intensity with his verses that is matched with the beat. Producer J. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – “When I Dance With You”

Brooklyn-based The Pains of Being Pure at Heart dropped the first single, “When I Dance With You” to tease their new album. Coming from the band’s fourth-full-length LP, The Echo Of Pleasure, there is a sense of the storytelling that the band brings to each track through the lyrics. A deeper crawl into love and the emotions that come along the way. Matching the theme of love, the instrumentals bring lighter and upbeat textures to the song. Crepes – “Sexyland”

Crepes give a sample of their debut album with the release of “Sexyland.” The single serves as the first release of the Austrailian-based band’s forthcoming album, which is due out later in 2017 via Deaf Ambitions. Dancing between slacker rock and dream pop, there is a nice balance between the two genres. With jangly guitar riffs and the inclusion of a bouncy synth towards the hook of the song, there are some parallels to the work on their EP Cold Summers. Listen to “Sexyland” below via SoundCloud.

Dutch Mob – “Little Brother”

United Kingdom based Dutch Mob dropped a new visual music video for their song “Little Brother.” The single is featured on their recent project The Passport EP. Both rappers come from respected crews in Bristol with Res One being a member Split Prophets and Mistafire representing Sé Fire. A looping guitar and drum beat flow well with the duo’s raps. One of the main themes of the song’s theme is an older brother trying to get to his younger brother, who is making mistakes. While the little brother does not want his older to talk to him, they still share one bond over the same experiences through misuse. Check out the visual music video for “Little Brother” below.

Slowcoaching – “Pillars of Salt”

Slowcoaching brings some classic dream-pop with his new release “Pillars of Salt.” Serving as the solo alias for Dean Valentino, Slowcoaching is coming off a string off support performances with Harts, Philadelphia Grand Jury and Fountaineer. Coming as a warm up to his upcoming album, “Pillars of Salt gives a sense of what the album is going to be like. “Pillars of Salt” is inspired by the nature documentaries that Valentino found himself engulfed in. SOFI TUKKER – “Moon Tattoo (Frost Remix)”

New York City dance collective SOFI TUKKER released a remix collaboration with Frost for their single “Moon Tattoo.”  Gearing up for their “A Moment Apart” tour, the group will feature as support for ODESZA along the way for select dates in the fall. Laden with bird sounds and bass-filled synth, the song takes you to the depths of the forest. Sophie Hawley-Weld’s gentle vocals are a nice contrast to the deeper and heavier sounds on the track.  Listen to “Moon Tattoo” below via SoundCloud.

El Capitàn – “Low (ft. DJ Nacatz)”

El Capitàn brings steady jams out of Thousand Oaks with their new release “Low” The drop serves as the second single off the group’s debut album “Low.” A funky bass line sets the stage for a beat reminiscent of the style of ‘90s hip-hop. Abhi The Nomad and Local Foster play off each other’s verses, showing great teamwork with a flow as smooth as the beat. Listen to “Low” via SoundCloud below.

Paul Mayson – “Waiting for You”

Coming out of the Electronic scene in the Netherlands, Paul Mayson dropped “Waiting for You,” which released on June 9 via Powerhouse Music. Mayson recently toured Europe with Don Diablo in support of his Run EP, and the single comes as some content to hold off fans in between projects. Clad with synths, drum beats and the drawn-back vocals of Insali, the project spends its time between modern dance and indie. Check out “Waiting for You” on SoundCloud below.

ELLEH – “I Can Be Your Best Friend”

Tokyo’s ELLEH dropped a new single in the form of “I Can Be Your Best Friend.” Part of the Anthems EP series, the single serves as the first track off the second part of the series. While many of the tracks on the first EP come as somber tunes, there is an upbeat sound to this single. With a sea of synths leading the funk, this track is one for those that love to dance. Pasha – “Prettyboi Bounce”

Norwegian rapper Pasha dropped a new music video for his song “Prettyboi Bounce.” Coming up through the Norwegian rap scene, Pasha has created a ton of buzz, even at the ripe age of 22. Due off Prettyboi Bounce on March 17 via Toothfairy, the single brings a playful vibe throughout. Bridging somewhere between the funkiness of the ‘80s and the smooth rap flows of the ‘90s, Pasha creates a unique sound through the combination of both styles. Cheerleader – “Feel Like That”

Philadelphia group Cheerleader dropped “Feel Like That” to promote their new album The Sunshine Of Your Youth out now on Bright Antenna Records. The indie pop act has shared the stage with notable of the Wombats and Eliot Sumner. “Feel Like That” is a one-off, served as some material to hold fans over while the album was still being produced. The song carries pop-savvy guitars that work well with the light vocals about not wanting to feel like… that. Listen to “Feel Like That” below.
