The Exit Sound – “You and Me”

Los Angeles based producer The Exit Sound dropped “You and Me” off his recent EP Space, Time, and Other Love Stories. There is a nice mixture of production values on the track, which comes from being rooted in new wave and indie pop. Newer synths and drum beats come together with more traditional sounds like the looping guitar riff on the track. Each piece creates a bridge between old and new and creates a unique sound on the track.  Listen to “You and Me” below via SoundCloud.

Sløtface – “Pitted”

Norwegian group Sløtface dropped the second single “Pitted” off their debut album Try Not To Freak Out due out via Propeller on September 15. Coming off as an anthem to those who don’t want to go out, the song carries the energy to get you moving out the door. The trumpet in the song is a nice turn from the aggressive guitar riffs. It gives a lighter touch and pairs well with the vocals. Check out “Pitted” below.

M.A.G.S. Returns with New Single “Demon”

Buffalo-based multi-instrumentalist M.A.G.S. released “Demon,” the first single off his forthcoming self-titled album, due out September 8th via Admirable Traits Records. M.A.G.S., the moniker for Elliott Douglas, has proven to be on a quick rise to popularity. After his debut EP Cellophane in in 2015, his work was featured on the soundtracks for TV shows including Shameless, The Flash and Famous In Love. Douglas looks to continue his rise through “Demon.” Nestled under dreamy guitar riffs, we find Douglas’ falsetto vocals. Effects draw these vocals out further, giving them some grit and character. All the instruments on the track are played by Douglas, so we are left with a consistent product throughout. Check out the music video for “Demon’ below via YouTube.

Previous Love Releases Debut Single “Caffeine”

Buffalo based alternative rockers Precious Love released the first single “Caffeine” off their upcoming self-titled EP. Recorded with Jay Zubricky at GCR Studios, “Caffeine’s” guitar riffs come as dreamy, but carry an edge to them. The vocals hold the somber feel that captures the essence of glory days of emo music. Ayo River- “Porcelain”

Atlanta-based indie group Ayo River dropped their single “Porcelain.” Following up the release of their first single “Failed State” five months ago, the band expands upon that single in “Porcelain.” The guitar riffs match the somber vibe of the song. Gently picked strings pair well with the tapping of the cymbal in the background. Growing older is one of the main themes of the song, with lines like “I’ll be 25 soon/All my older friends never think it’s news,” showing how the change of age doesn’t really matter anymore. Rahi – “Million Dollar Bike”

Jon Rahi took a different route to rap than most rappers. Las Vegas-based Rahi started off in rock music, but changed over to the production side of music. “Million Dollar Bike,” his new drop, shows Rahi true production side. There is a wide variety of samples used on the track to create the beat. The main mixture comes through the roots of three songs, “Biking” by Frank Ocean, “Portland” by Drake and “I Am A God” by Kanye West. Everything comes together to bring a deep bass and light kick to the explosive beat. Feature rapper Willay adds to the energy of the song through his support role. Astral Cloud Ashes – “Moonphase Bloom”

Channel Island, United Kingdom based post-emo outfit Astral Cloud Ashes dropped the first single “Moonphase Bloom,” off their upcoming unnamed album. The single arrives one year after the release of their debut album Too Close to the Noise Floor and will be featured on their next album. The focus was placed more on the studio aspects of the band rather than the live aspects, placing more emphasis on working with a variety of sound engineers. There’s a sense of this effort through the sharpness of the guitars and the clearness of the vocal. Cina Polada – “Gloom”

Finnish indie pop combo Cina Polada dropped “Gloom,” the first single off their self-titled EP due out on September 29. The band is composed of Hilla and Tatu Miettinen, with Tatu’s brother Teemu and close friends Tony Salo and Nita Mattila. Growing in popularity with their place on Ja Ja Ja’s top Nordic Artists to Watch for 2016, the band hopes to continue their success in their EP. “Gloom” carries a vibe like its title. A mellow guitar riff leads to somber vocals. Hilla sings, “I’m just a waste of time, it’s just the way I feel,” further hammering away at the sad motif of the single. Pacewon & Mr. Green – “Massacre”

New Jersey-based emcee and producer Pacewon & Mr. Green dropped “Massacre.” Following the release of The Only Color That Matters is Green in 2008 and The Only Number That Matters is Won in 2012, the duo is back together to create more music. With hard-hitting bass and reverb, the track matches the tenacity of Pacewon’s hard-hitting bars. The track features Big Pun’s son, Chris Rivers, who brings the heat on his feature to keep up with the reputation of his family’s namesake. Listen to “Masscare” below via SoundCloud.

George Hollow – “Yipee Kai Yi Yay”

Pittsburgh-based rapper George Hollow dropped a music video for his single “Yipee Kai Yi Yay.” The video produced by The Hodak Brothers goes in a Tarentino-esque style in terms of artistic direction.  Ranging from shot selection to the use of bold letter face like the titles used in Pulp Fiction, the video captures the vibe perfectly. Lost Identity – “Plaque”

Lost Identity and Bronze Baby Shoes released a new single “Plaque.” Consisting of a combination of North American talent with Guelph, Ontario Canada’s Lost Identity and Virginia native and producer Bronze Baby Shoes. The beat first came to Lost Identity through former Survivor contestant Shane Power’s radio show chat room. The beat shares a connection to old school hip hop through tweak scratches and some old-school samples. Western Divide – “Warner Ave”

Orange County, California group released “Warner Ave” as a part of their full-length Fall In Love To This, which released in July. There are two different types of vocals presences on the track, which goes along with the mixture of hardcore and folk. There is the soft croon from the lead and a growl from the backing vocals. The mixture of genres also comes with the guitars where there are both powerful and smooth riffs present. Check out “Warner Ave” below via SoundCloud.

Eldoradio – “China House”

Swedish band Eldoradio dropped “China House” to promote their upcoming album. The single is from the band’s debut album 21st Century Explosive Sound, coming out in the summer from Welfare Sounds & Records. Fresh off a festival gig at the NGOM Festival in Kosovo on July 7, the band is continuing to work on their craft. Catchy, rapid-fire guitar riffs create an upbeat background for the song. The lyrics and vocals add to the same upbeat style that the instrumentals bring. Check out “China House” below via SoundCloud.

Sundaes – “Everything”

Nashville-based Sundaes released “Everything” as a part of their self-titled EP that came out on March 22. The band made their impact right away with two sold out shows at Chelsea Hotel Storefront Gallery in New York. A mellow guitar riff carries into the falsetto vocals. Towards the chorus, the guitar sets off on its own adventure, reminiscent of the blues style guitar of the ‘60s. While gritty with guitar, the song finds a way to fit polished vocals into the mix to create a genre-bending combination. Listen to “Everything” below via SoundCloud.

Shorts – “Sun Dogs”

Melbourne, Australia-based band Shorts released “Sun Dogs,” the second single from their debut EP Something Else. The song originally came as a completed instrumental from guitarist Armarin Saengsri, but needed some type of lyrics to complete the song. Vocalist Lachlan Bradford took some of his notes from his time in Canada working in a gondola hut to add to the track.
