Tonight: Jenny Lewis

Celebrated singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis is making a stop in Buffalo tonight. Gracing the stage at Babeville (Asbury Hall), she’ll be bringing along two decades worth of influential music. Initially starting out as a member of indie rock favorites Rilo Kiley, Lewis has gone on to have an acclaimed solo career. In addition, she has appeared on projects by artists ranging from The Postal Service to Ryan Adams, as well as both acting and writing music for several films. Her most recent solo record, The Voyager, was released in 2014. Opening up the show is NYC-based artist Cut Worms, the project of Chicagoan Max Clarke. Their debut LP was released this year via Jagjaguwar. Tickets are $30 at the door with doors opening at 7pm, music at 8pm.

Tonight: Zigtebra

Electric Avenue hosts an eclectic night tonight which will be the music destination for downtown Buffalo. Topping the bill, and making a stop on their exhaustive US tour, is the dancey Chicago synthpop duo, Zigtebra. Creative partners Emily Rose and Joe Zeph will get your body moving with their quirky, diary-entry love songs overcast with sparkling melancholia. Everything may seem like rainbows and butterflies with bubbly synth beats and Rose’s warm, romantic vocals, but below the surface, there’s longing and heartache. It’s what makes Zigtebra so authentic and appealing. If you like dancing and have a heart, you won’t want to miss these two. Tonight: Ugly Sun

Show up to Mohawk Place in downtown Buffalo tonight for an electrifying grassroots rock and roll show that’s sure to blow out both the speakers and your eardrums. Headlining, and celebrating a 2-year anniversary, is Buffalo’s Ugly Sun. This thrilling trio plays an intoxicating form of raw indie rock that’s wrought with emotion and isn’t afraid to venture outside the grimy garage and into a vibrant garden. Tonight: The Molice

Get your culture on tonight at Sugar City as they host a righteous evening celebrating the creative expression of art, rock and roll. Venturing all the way from Japan and continuing their extensive US tour are one-of-a-kind indie rockers, The Molice. This charming DIY three-piece play bright, bubbly and highly danceable power pop records that draw from a wide range of influences. Tonight: Ghastly, Indiana

Basement shows are the best shows and Buffalo’s Deep Space Eight is hosting an absolute killer one tonight. Topping the bill is touring punk four-piece, Ghastly, Indiana, who are hot off the release of their debut full-length, Nowhere is Perfect. This band is Pop Rocks for the ears with a raw, melodic-as-hell sound influenced by alt-rock, pop punk and everything in between. Lucky for you, there’s no better venue for this guaranteed fun, kinetic set that will rattle your bones and shake the ceiling tiles. Tonight: Attic Abasement

Nietzsche’s takes the title for chillest spot in Buffalo tonight as they host a stellar, can’t-miss line-up of zoned-out indie rock. Headlining is Rochester’s irreverently laidback, Attic Abasement. If you don’t know singer-songwriter-guitarist Mike Rheinheimer (Science vs. Witchcraft), and you should, pull up a front row seat. Recognized for his mellow, personal mumblings, Rheinheimer enlists the help of a bassist, drummer and keyboardist to bring his special blend of experimental, lo-fi tunes straight to your eardrums. Trust us, these guys will rock you like a baby. Making her triumphant and awaited return to Buffalo is Jack. The brainchild of former Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter, Brittany Costa, Jack is a brewing storm of indie rock. Tonight: The Tins

Bring your dancing shoes to Buffalo’s Lockhouse Distillery tonight and lace them up tight as The Tins kick off a summer tour with the celebration of their brand spanking new full-length album. In case you aren’t in the know, The Tins are a Buffalo psychedelic indie rock trio who have been setting streaming services on fire with their fantastically trippy melodies and intoxicating vocals. Garnering over millions of listens has led them to collaborate and refine their sound with heavyweight producers such as Joe Blaney (Modest Mouse), Ted Young (Kurt Vile, The Gaslight Anthem) and, most recently, Robby Takac (Goo Goo Dolls). Tonight: Yazan

Modern-day Frank Zappa, Yazan, takes his talents to Buffalo favorite, Electric Avenue, tonight for the latest stop on his very first kick-ass, cross-country tour. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Yazan is a singer-songwriter-guitarist who specializes in an exceptional mixture of blues, folk and psychedelic grooves. Riding high off the release of his new album, Hahaha, he’ll be flanked by drummer, Nick Dooley (Flagland), and bassist, Sam Gehrke (Soul Low), to give your Friday night an auditory kick in the pants. Also taking the stage is Jack, the solo songwriting project of former Brooklynite-turned-Buffalonian and singer-songwriter, Brittany Costa.  Rounding out the night are Buffalo’s slowcore three-piece, Award Show, and the folksy Andrew Kothen (Dreambeaches). Tonight: Witty Tarbox Release Show

Do you like clowns, cotton candy and indie grooves? Well lucky for you, Witty Tarbox is turning Buffalo’s Nietzsche’s into a big top tonight for the release of their debut studio EP, The Adventures of Schmitty: Issue #1 v RARE. Hailing from Buffalo, Witty Tarbox stands out by taking a cooler, more laidback approach to their sound, blending the blues with all kinds of rock, from indie to surf, resulting in some seriously funky jams. This is one of those bands where the music is sweetened by the performance so don’t miss ‘em. Helping out with the festivities and wrangling the elephants are the vintage tinged three-piece, Handsome Jack, and groove rockers, Mosswalk. Doors at 9pm, $5 cover. 21 and over. Tonight: Hate Club

If you’re looking to scratch your indie rock itch tonight, look no further than Milkie’s on Elmwood where femme-fronted four-piece, Hate Club, are performing along with additional friends and local favorites. Hailing from Albany, Hate Club founded in 2016 and dropped their debut EP, No, Seriously, showcasing a slacker, basement rock sound that’s wrought with angst and heartache. Their standout tracks include “Passive // Aggressive” and “In the Shadow of Two Gunmen, Pt. 2,” both of which are refreshingly cathartic and endearingly personal. Want to rock out and be vulnerable at the same time? Join the Club for what promises to be a rambunctious musical therapy session. Adding a healthy dose of noisy, garage rock to the show will be Albany’s guitar and drum duo, Death Vacation. Tonight: Aircraft

Tonight Aircraft, First Ward and Velvet Bethany will join together to put on what is sure to be a show for the ages at The 9th Ward, the basement bar attached to the multi-use facility Babeville. This venue lies in the center of the theater district in Buffalo, at 341 Delaware Ave. Aircraft will be prepared to unveil their top-level energy as well as a masterful mix of both power and delicacy. Fellow Buffalonians First Ward will bring along their meticulous and anthemic melodies. Added onto that will be the garage rock vigor of Velvet Bethany, another locally based act. Tonight: Mutual Friends

Tonight  Mutual Friends and Ugly Sun will surely rock the Lockhouse Distillery & Bar off its framework. The establishment is located at 41 Columbia St. in Buffalo. The balance of local garage group Ugly Sun’s high-octane rush of punk and the atmospheric dreaminess of their fellow Buffalo natives, the synth-pop luminaries in Mutual Friends, will be quite the sight (and sound) to behold. Tonight: Joywave

Tonight Joywave blows the roof off Buffalo’s historic Town Ballroom for the final date of their ‘Thanks. Thanks for Coming’ tour. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Joywave are Rochester indie rockers fronted by multi-hyphenate Daniel Armbruster. Their latest album, Content, was released last year and gathered millions of listens with singles “It’s a Trip!” and “Doubt.” Be prepared to move and potentially lose your voice. Joining the party is LA-based singer-songwriter Sasha Sloan. You might recognize her porcelain voice from collaborations with Kygo, ODESZA and Kaskade, but now she’s singing her own awesome and moody pop songs. Also performing are Rochester-based rocktronica four-piece, KOPPS, and synth poppers, Humble Braggers. Tonight: Orations

Buffalo’s Mr. Goodbar (Upstairs) is showing off the local goods tonight with a can’t-miss show featuring different shades of punk supplied by Buffalo’s finest. The stellar line-up includes the supremely talented, Orations, who will be performing their fantastic post-punk head nodders and toe-tappers. Expect an earful of jangling guitar riffs, punk-driven drums and Jess Collins’s beautifully resonant, mockingbird vocals. If you haven’t had the pleasure of listening to Orations, see them live tonight and walk away their biggest fan. Also taking the stage, the floor, the walls, the ceiling and your personal space, are punk rockers, Gun Candy. With a rough and tumble sound backed up by a rowdy performance this mixed 4-piece will get in your face for what promises to be a hell of a set. Tonight: Sunday Brunch

Tonight Buffalo’s own Sunday Brunch will be bringing their wondrous lo-fi late 90s indiemo sound to the Nietzsche’s, located at 248 Allen St. Last July, Sunday Brunch released the six-song EP called Eat Your Heart Out, which fills its running time to the brim with highly energetic tunes delivered with a robust attitude. Fellow hometown alternative groups Scathed and Ghostpool will also be performing. Doors are at 9, and the cover is $5. Only those 21 and over can enter unless accompanied by a parent.
