Passed Out – Well Enough, For Now

Buffalo’s very own Passed Out released their triplet Well Enough For Now EP via Admirable Traits Records, bearing the vintage vibes of a warm cup of coffee and a flannel on the porch. The intro “Baby Blue” is accompanied by a classically entertaining video that was brought to the world wide web on February 3rd of 2022. The meat of the EP, “Scorched Earth,” holds all the thoughts we withhold from others (and even ourselves) with lyrics like “I like the face you put on when you want to be caring.” The brutally honest ballads of Well Enough For Now don’t get any more sugar-coated toward the back of the EP – “PBRs & Hockey Cards” is the last song that’s played at the bar as everyone gathers their things before parting ways for what’s assumed to be a long time. Stream it on Spotify & Apple Music Well Enough,[...]

Tonight: Sons of Luther

Driving alt-rockers Sons of Luther headline a diverse indie showcase tonight at Mohawk. With a dark, brooding sound, their most recent EP Do What You Can really highlights their riff heavy, new wave aesthetic. Joining the  line-up is dark-pop producer Medusa. To call their music danceable would be an understatement, but it’s also deeply dark, even menacing at times. Truly the most compelling aspect of their music is how cathartic it is. A perfect hybridization of aggressive synths, unique samples, lush harmonies, and diss track lyrics, Medusa is a singular artist and commands your attention. Also on the bill is indie emo-punks Passed Out. In a similar vein of Modern Baseball, Passed Out writes deeply cathartic lyrics that succeed in their mission of making you “very sad, then happy, then very sad again.” Finally, rounding out the bill is jangly dream-pop outfit Coral Collapse. With enveloping shoegaze textures, and a danceable driving[...]

Tonight: Anamon

13 years ago Buffalo was transformed forever when it got nailed with an October Storm it had never seen before: there was snow, thunder, and lightning, and huge, wet snowflakes brought down powerlines and hundreds (thousands?) of trees all over the fabled “City of Trees.” It was traumatic (and kind of fun), and young local indie heroes Halo Nellie are commemorating the whole thing tonight at Nietzsche’s with a killer indie show featuring Anamon, Circular Logic and Passed Out. Headlining visitors Anamon are a heartbreaking swell indie new wave outfit from Rochester with a sweetly dark sound that encompasses lo-fi, roadhouse blues, classic French pop, and new wave, with local thrashers Circular Logic,  emo punks Passed Out and gracious hosts and curators Halo Nello getting everything started. Doors are at 9pm and cover is $5. Purple, Green, and Yellow by Anamon

Tonight: Candy Ambulance

Must-see Troy, NY grunge rockers, Candy Ambulance, make their much-anticipated return to Buffalo tonight for a party hosted by Milkie’s on Elmwood. Candy Ambulance has a well-earned reputation for putting on a killer set you don’t want to miss. This badass and charismatic tripod, composed of singer and guitarist Caitlin Barker, bassist Jesse Bolduc, and drummer Jon Cantiello, is fueled by pure passion and alcohol. Barker lets her booze-soaked vocals stumble everywhere from a soft sincerity to a snotty snarl. Laid underneath are live-wire riffs and catchy drumbeats layered by Bolduc and Cantiello that will get your BAC pumping. Catch them while you can for a blackout good time. Also taking the stage is local raw indiemo act, Passed Out. Sing and dance your feelings out to their irresistible records filled with life and heartache. Perfect for the recently dumped; Passed Out are sure to put on an awesome set[...]

Tonight: North by North

The unicorn of rock ‘n roll bands happens to be the two piece line-up. Stripped down, this combo of guitar and drums delivers more punch than a full piece orchestra.Take for example, The Flat Duo Jets influencing the White Stripes who gave credence to the Black Keys. Following suit, from the city of Chicago, I’d like to introduce to you North by North. Self described crunch rockers playing sweaty fever dream rock ‘n roll, North by North use their experience of over 650 shows to their advantage. They unleash boogie-woogie grooves from drummer Kendra Blank and psych-surf riffs from guitarist Nate Girard to create a rich and colorful atmosphere that reminds one of The Stooges mixed with Sonic Youth. They will be in town tonight in support of their latest album Last Days of Magic. Also on deck tonight are garage act The Gennies, buzzing newcomers Halo Nellie, and raw rock act[...]

Tonight: Nylon Otters

Looking for something to do tonight? Perhaps you should spend your Saturday night checking out some heartfelt indie and rock music. Tonight: Johnny & the Man Kids

Tonight Mohawk hosts a solid lineup of Buffalo indie rock when Johnny & The Man Kids celebrate the release of their new EP You Made Me Hurt with help from Passed Out, Award Show and Halo Nellie. People expecting some 90’s revivalism will have to look elsewhere  because Johnny & the Man Kids have entirely skipped that apparently misbegotten decade to embrace the glory of the first decade of the 21st century as embodied by NYC stalwarts The Strokes and Vampire Weekend with some of that early Killers goodness (before it all went wrong) via John Marciniak’s earnest and appealingly evocative vocals, and their EP is a celebration of youth and an era that almost seems bygone nowadays considering everything’s all went wrong, but hey. Opening the show will be raw as hell indie rockers Passed Out, lo-fi shoegazers Award Show, and newbies halo nellie, about which little is known so[...]

They’re joined tonight by fellow Edenite-turned-Buffalonian Sonny Baker, the always-entertaining indiemo act Passed Out, and recently rebranded Venus Vacation (formerly known as Major Arcana). Tonight’s show is at 8pm and costs a modest $5 for entry. Don Is Rich by Lancer
