Tonight: Advance Base

Tonight electronic minimalist troubadour Advance Base returns to Buffalo to ply his dark trade at Nietzsche’s with local indie rocker Ex-Pat and Nashville lo-fi indie band Sinai Vessel. The current project from Casiotone for the Painfully Alone’s Owen Ashworth features the Chicago singer/songwriter channeling Nick Cave and Phosphorescent’s  Matthew Houck against sparse and increasingly bleak electronic soundscapes, so be prepared to go deep into your own emotions. Tour mates Sinai Vessel are an evocative lo-fi folk trio who just released yours, an EP of new material last month that leans away from garage rock and into folk. Ex-Pat aka Patrick Weil opens the show with his laid back and very psychedelic brand of indie. Doors are at 8pm and cover is $10. Animal Companionship by Advance Base

Tonight; Music Is Noise

Buffalo noise outfit Noumenoise is curating a heavy duty two night noise fest celebrating and exploring “ordered and chaotic sound.” Tonight’s first night at Milkie’s on Elmwood is focused on “heavy earth sounds” and will be featuring Ithaca’s HEARSE, Cosmic Heart Crisis from Syracuse, Rochester’s Fentanyl Tapwater, plus local noise artists Anthopic, Jesse and the Spirit, Menophilia, and Party Shirt. Tomorrow night at Nietzsche’s will be all about “heavenly space sounds” from Cleveland’s Item, Denzelworldpeace, Dogs In Stereo, Family ph0t0 b00k, $Bitch.00, Karsten Brooks, TEA SOUP, and Destroying. Cover is $5 per show or $7 for a two night wristband, and doors are at 8pm. Being a celebration of the local and regional noise scenes, it has been requested that there will be “no discrimination, no creeps, no egos,” so please, don’t be a dickhead. The Light Has Gone [demo 2019] by Hearse

Tonight: Bold Folly

Always turned up to 11 psych punks Bold Folly are back and they mean business tonight at Nietzsche’s with a skull crushing lineup featuring Aircraft, The Molice, and Zurich Cloud Motors. Everything about this show will make your ESP tingle because every band on this bill values melting your mind: the rededicated but no less bonkers Bold Folly are a force of nature, heady and nihilistic in equal measure and back with a surf punky new single; Aircraft’s melodic psych rock is shinier and heavier than ever before; while Tokyo punk heroes and honorary Buffalonians The Molice bring pure joy and tight riffs wherever they play. Zurich Cloud Motors, hailing from Indianapolis, Providence, and Buffalo, specialize in unhinged garage rock transmitted from a parallel universe. Get ready because it’s going to be way too much in the best ways possible. Doors are at 9pm and cover is $7. War games by Bold[...]

Tonight: Laveda

Tonight your dreams will become real when Allentown’s Nietzsche’s hosts a very fine bill of lo-fi indie featuring Albany’s Laveda, Coral Collapse, and Michael Heubusch. Straight out of the Capital Districts and directly into your subconscious, Laveda (Ali Genevich, Jake Brooks) is shoegazey fun with a bit of British New Wave and M83 and thus ideal for emotively swaying in place to the pulsing beats. Coral Collapse, who only look like substitute math teachers, will be opening the show with their evocative, angular, and soaring dream pop along with the debut performance of singer-songwriter and rabble rouser Michael Heubusch. Doors are at 8pm and cover is $5. Better Now by Laveda

Tonight: Outerpol

Nietzsche’s in Buffalo brings the jams tonight with a rocking line-up. Headlining and making their triumphant return is Buffalo’s own Interpol cover band, Outerpol. Consisting of members of Cooler and Hundred Plus, expect to hear and dance along to awesome renditions of your favorite Interpol tracks. Come out like Katniss and pay tribute. Sharing the stage are your favorite neighborhood emo-rocking scoundrels, Passed Out. This emotionally fragile five-piece will take you and your feelings on a rollercoaster ride with the strike of their very first chord. Singer and guitarist Andy Pothier’s somber and poignant vocals are relationship confessionals wrapped up in endearing melodies that are equal parts emo and pop punk. Don’t miss these guys. Rounding out the night are local indie rockers Coral Collapse and west ferry. Doors at 9pm, tickets are $8. This show is 21+.

Tonight: Sonny Baker Band

Nietzsche’s is holding the line tonight against the existential threat of the invading  lunkheads with a strong lineup of in your face but smart as hell local rock featuring the always satisfying Sonny Baker Band, The Eaves, TVMTN and the Shallows. One of the hardest working musicians in Buffalo, Sonny is the sound of the city we wish it really was, and tonight he’s getting the whole band together to play some original tunes and possibly some interesting covers because they are good like that. Tonight’s lineup will feature American garage rockers The Eaves, fresh off the release of their tight full length vinyl LP Learning To Live last month; newbie indie rock outfit TVMTN, featuring members of On Beta, The Old Sweethearts and Fourem; and the Shallows, the latest project from inevitable talismanic folk hero Joe Myers and an incredible band held aloft by Chris Ploss and heave’s Emily Finlan. Doors are at 8pm and cover is $5.

M.A.G.S. at Nietzsche’s (12/22/18)

Elliott Douglas, the multi-talented musical force behind M.A.G.S. came home for the holidays for a headlining slot at Buffalo’s Nietzsche’s on December 22nd. Having recently relocated to Los Angeles to pursue his artistic muse, this rare opportunity for M.A.G.S. to play the Queen City was met with a rapturous response, as friends, peers, and fans came out of the woodwork in support of Douglas. A gifted singer-songwriter and a serious multi-instrumentalist, Douglas was joined by his brother Christian on bass and Deadwolf’s Tyler Mendola on drums for a raucous evening of impactful indie-punk classics, including a selection of brand-new songs. Supporting acts that evening included Feverbox, playing in support of their new Political Theater EP, Rochester’s The Demos, keeping the spirit of The Strokes alive and well, and powder-keg punks SMUG, setting the stage for a night of playful mayhem. Tonight: Well Worn Boot

Cosmic forces beyond our limited human capacity for understanding are aligning tonight in Allentown when beloved but currently defunct hillbilly psycho cowpunk outfit Well Worn Boot reunite for one night only at Nietzsche’s with an absolutely stacked all star bill. Prepare your mind and body for a potentially Jodorowskyesque (or is it Schlesingeresque?) journey that will test everything you have as you venture up the unholy mountain, urged upward by Fredtown steam folk punk foursome Mr. Boneless, also reuniting for the evening; Rochester freakazoids Harmonica Lewinski and experimental acoustic duo Green Schwinn before the deranged masked men of Well Worn Boot unleash god knows what upon those in attendance and doing whatever they’re going to do to us to break on through to their own twisted version of enlightenment. Will it be legal? Maybe. Will it be preposterous, twisted, and not soon to be forgotten? Without question. Doors are at 8pm and cost of[...]

Tonight: Harmonica Lewinski

Tonight Rochester Hell raising gang of malcontents Harmonica Lewinski make a welcome return to the Queen City opening for local legends The Irving Klaws and fellow Rochesteronians The Fox Sisters at Nietzsche’s. Frankly, this is a pretty bonkers lineup, featuring the aforementioned Rochester hellraisers, plus the hard charging, R&B party up fun of The Fox Sisters, as well as the raunchy and intense fun of The Irving Klaws, so this show might be exactly what you need after this extraordinarily wacky week. Also, this show is so not whitebread that the only suburban Millennial gentrifiers you’ll have to put up with are the ones you pass on Allen on your way to the show. Cover is $5 and doors are at 10pm. Humble Braggers at Nietzsche’s (9/1/18)

Synth-pop fan favorites Humble Braggers celebrated the release of their newest EP, Cycle (Admirable Traits Records), with a spectacular musical showcase at Nietzsche’s on September 1st, 2018. Eschewing guitars in favor of lush synth pads, and with a greater emphasis on dance rhythms, Cycle explores feelings of uncertainty and self-doubt over some of the most jubilant pop hooks the band has crafted yet. With a stunning light show from Shawn E. Lewis, Humble Braggers’ transcendent and impassioned tunes simply exploded onstage. The band were supported by experimental pop purveyors Space Cubs and effervescent jangle-pop quintet Little Summer, with a closing indie-dance set from DJ collective Dance Yrself Clean. Nietzsche’s in Buffalo is the place to be tonight as they host an exciting indie show with a stacked lineup. Taking the stage and setting your Saturday night ablaze are Kingston’s very own evocative and electrifying indie rock quartet, Kyle & The Pity Party. If you haven’t heard of them, where have you been? These guys have been on the scene since 2012 and are known for their melodic and full-hearted barnburners that will rattle your ribcage and send shivers down your spine. Hopefully Nietzsche’s has insurance because this set is going to blow the roof off the place. Don’t miss it. Providing trippy and colorfully abstract melodies to the evening are Buffalo faves, The Tins. Indie rock with a sense of wonder; their buoyant and playful psychedelic jams are positively excellent and enchanting. Think this is just fake news? Check them out for yourself tonight for a performance that[...]
