Sixties Future Releases HAIM Cover

It’s no secret that Sixties Future has been one of our favorite bands to pop up in 2015. With just one show under its belt, the quintet has brought a whole new sound to the oftentimes repetitive Buffalo’s music scene. After an impressive debut show as part of Humble Braggers release party, Sixties Future showed a very engaged crowd what was up their sleeve, which included an impressive cover of HAIM’s “The Wire.” This week, the band debuted the cover recorded last month with Jay Zubricky at GCR Audio. Highlighting Chris Couche’s gravelly vocals, Sixties Future delivers a version of “The Wire” which is on par with the original while adding some of the band’s unique flair to the track. Sixties Future will be playing on August 7th at Nietzsche’s with Attic Abasement, M.A.G.S., and Newish Star. Check out the HAIM cover below.

Passion in Constellation Releases Summer Anthem in “Tropical Love”

Alright, I am going to make a bold prediction. Passion in Constellation will be in the top ten for our annual end of the year top twenty countdown for songs coming out of Buffalo in 2015. For buffaBLOG top twenty historians, Passion in Constellation made a blip on our countdown last year at number sixteen with his collaboration with relatively undiscovered singer Cara Doyle. The pair reunited to strike gold once again, releasing the dance track “Tropical Love” this past weekend and it’s been on a 24-hour loop at the blog headquarters. Passion in Constellation is the production moniker for Buffalo-based electro-pop producer Chris Alan. Throughout the past two years under the Passion in Constellation name, Alan has progressively improved (but he started out awesome with the single “Sunlight,” so there was a bit of a lead start), proving the producer has a real ear for what translates. Just Announced: Modest Mouse

One thing that has been happening more and more is that we are getting concert announcements for bands that are totally out of left field. We usually know ahead of time the majority of bands that are going to come through before they are publicly announced based on our network of Buffalo music industry insiders, but not today’s announcement. After a fairly quiet summer at the outer harbor, it was announced at 5pm on the dot that on Saturday, September 12th, 103.3 the Edge would be hosting an evening co-headlined by Modest Mouse and Rise Against, with support by Coheed and Cambria, Highly Suspect, Boots, Made Violent and MORE. Isaac Brock must have had some great wings when he came last spring. Tickets go on sale this Friday, July 10th, at noon via TicketMaster for $31.03 (only as an early bird special). Yeehaw.

I think it’s no secret at this point that I split my time between Albany and Buffalo. The drive sucks, but it definitely keeps my life interesting leading two completely different lives. One of the things I’ve liked about Albany life is being able to discover all the local bands/scene. Although there is are like two legit venues for indie bands to play in (with an additional two DIY venues that I know of), the quality coming out of the region is pretty remarkable with what seems to be little support. This brings me to the band slowshine, an Albany-based three piece that I first discovered when researching the 17 Best Bands to check out at Move Festival.  Consisting of the songwriting partnership between Noah Bondy and Cameron Castan, and a rotating drummer, the duo seems to be on the bill for every great indie show coming to the capital region. Embers Release New Recordings

Last winter, Rochester’s Embers submitted a demo to our inbox that left an impression strong enough for me to listen to over and over again on a flight to Chicago. Embers had some bangers, but seemed to have a lot of different directions it was heading, still developing its sound. Yesterday, the band released a new set of improved live-studio recordings that were quite impressive after jumping back into the studio in late April to rerecord two songs previously released on the Singles demo, “Stop Motion” and “Embrace.” Produced and recorded by University at Rochester student project titled Penguin Records, the recording quality has dramatically improved, highlighting the bands noteworthy 90’s indiemo sound. Just Announced: The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die

There was a time where I thought And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead was the longest band name ever. How naive of me. With that being said, After Dark announced this afternoon that the atmospheric indiemo octet, The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die (TWIABP), would be making a stop at Waiting Room on Friday, August 14th.  Fans of Explosions in the Sky, The Front Bottoms, or early Taking Back Sunday should buy tickets when they go on sale Friday, June 5th via Ticketfly.com. Another layer of this already delicious bill is the addition of Pianos Become Teeth  on this bill. Make sure you are over 16 or you bring your parent/cool guardian.

Tonight: Atsuko Chiba

I usually give every band on a bill coming through Buffalo the ol’ college try to see if the gauge my interest. More often than not, a band I’m not familiar with doesn’t do it for me. With this, I was planning on taking today off, but I just couldn’t pass up gushing about Atusko Chiba. Atusko Chiba is a Montreal-based quintet on the tail-end of a tour all over the United States. The group’s sound is 80% dreamy instrumental, with short bursts of chants. The best way to describe AC would be experimental post-rock (fans of Explosions in the Sky or Mono would dig) with heavy In Casino Out-era At The Drive-In patches. Mohawk Place is set to host Atsuko Chiba tonight with locals Shadow Swine and JeffRepeater. It’ll probably be an early one, so I would get there by 8pm with $5 in hand.

Pink Elephant Releases Video for “Employment”

We’ve been listening to Pink Elephant for the past couple of years, even naming their 2014 self titled full-length our album of the week last summer as well as their song “Architect” our eighth  favorite Rochester track of 2014. Suffice to say, we are fans over at buffaBLOG of their grizzled, cacophonous sound. This morning the heavy-hitting quartet released the video for the track “Employment,” with the help of Matt Tharp over at Ghost Films. The video alters between shots of Rochester’s growing and dying areas, jumping back to shots of the band’s practice space. Fans of Pile, Les Savy Fav, or Trail of Dead would enjoy Pink Elephant. Tonight: Hey Rosetta!

Tonight, the Studio at the Waiting Room is set to host Newfoundland’s Hey Rosetta!, a lively orchestral pop seven-piece paired with bravado leads that fans of Ra Ra Riot, Landlady, or even Coldplay would enjoy.  Since forming in 2005, the septet have toured all over the world,  gaining a wide array of fans and press from notable outlets like NPR and the CBC.  Tonight’s show is presented by Funtime with doors at 6:30pm and $16 cover. No word on if there are any openers. Tonight: CRUISR

Tonight, Philadelphia-based indie-pop quartet, CRUISR, will be making a stop at The Studio at the Waiting Room. Signed to Vagrant Records (The 1975,  School of Seven Bells), CRUISR has achieved quite the buzz, scoring exclusive features on internet suckhole Buzzfeed, Daytrotter, and All Things Go. Fans of Architecture in Helsinki, Royal Tongues, or Joywave should plan on pounding dinner pretty early tonight. CRUISR will be supporting Detroit garage-disco act Flint Eastwood, with local support from the majestic SHEDS and electropop voices. $10 cover with early doors at 6:30pm. Cookie Drops Latest Tune “Take It Slow”

One of the blog’s favorite songwriting partnerships comes in the form of Cookie, a collaboration between Jordan Nittoli (Newish Star, Dream Journal) and Dave Dluga (Softlines, Mapmaker). Yesterday afternoon, the duo debuted another incredibly curt song, titled “Take It Slow,” which rings in at a fast one minute and 13 seconds. The follow up the band’s early 2015 EP, Tell it to the Fudge, “Take It Slow” continues to waste no time delivering quickly-paced indierock tunes that always seem to end too soon, but that’s what repeat buttons are for, right? The band does not expect to bring the project to a stage/basement any time soon, so listen to “Take It Slow” below.

17 Bands To See At Albany’s Move Music Festival

One of the goals we have as a blog is to expand our regional/state-wide influence/knowledge base. Once we received an e-mail from Move Music Festival, a three day festival taking place in the heart of Albany, NY, we knew we had to check out. Over 100 bands were announced as part of the festival, and trust me when we say we did our homework. Over the past week we listened to probably about 96 acts that we’ve never heard of before. Bands like Sheen and CONTACT were impossible to google so I have no idea what they sound like. Other bands totally disappeared from the lineup (C’mon Dead Leaf Echo, I was looking forward to catching your first show since I was super poor living in NYC and eating the complimentary apps as dinner at someone’s art show in Williamsburg). CRUSHES Release New Single “i miss you”

This past week, Rochester birthed duo, CRUSHES, released their first single in over a year, titled “i miss you.” Comprised of long-time Rochester DJ, David Lee Rad, and Buffalo/Rochester floater, DJ Lulu, “i miss you” is an impressive indietronic collaboration by the pair, reminiscent of Chromatics, Ladyhawke or even Cut Copy. Let’s hope this is not just a stand alone track, but a single from a forthcoming EP, or maybe even a full. One can dream. Check out “i miss you” below. buffaBLOG Announces Booking Company: Yace Booking

Throughout the past five years, buffaBLOG has strived to cover the very best up-and-coming bands from Buffalo and beyond. The blog has been rapidly expanding, garnering over 10,000 social media followers with daily previews, show announcements, local spotlights, new music, interviews, opinion pieces, reviews, and the buffaBLOG Weekly Podcast. In addition, the blog coordinates events such as Herd Fest, annual holiday and birthday parties, along with many one-off events, but you probably already know all of that. American Low Premieres Black & White Music Video for “Cloud”

A few weeks ago, Buffalo-based trio American Low debuted their video for the single “Cloud.” The black and white video features the trio in an abandoned studio belting about how a love interest is putting up a wall. What’s most impressive is lead singer Mike Brady’s playful delivery and transition into falsetto vocals. Local fans of Made Violent along with fans of national acts like Girls would dig American Low. The band is set to drop a new EP on the internet this week and has a show this Saturday at Nietzsche’s with Bryan Johnson & Family, M.A.G.S., and Brooklyn’s Happy Hollow.
