I have a feeling this one might sell out.

Just Announced: Herd Fest

For the past six months, we’ve been chugging along trying to put together our third annual Herd Music Festival. The festival, which began in 2014, aimed to gather all of Western New York’s up-and-coming bands into one hustled weekend that showcased the city’s growing music scene. In the past we partnered up with various labels and collectives to deliver snapshots of cultures and tastes, but this year we decided to try something new – centralized programming and open applications. With centralized programming this put a lot more pressure and workload on our staff as opposed to working with conjunction with another organization. This will aid to ensure time flow management. We are positive that with this, showtimes will be close to the announced times, allowing festival-goers the opportunity to drop in and out of shows and curate their own concert experience. We’ve also developed an app for both Google and Apple IOS,[...]

Black Honey – “All My Pride”

Black Honey’s “All My Pride” has been the flavor of the day over at buffaBLOG HQ. The band’s latest single, off of their forthcoming The Headspin EP. Think the gritty garage-rock stylings of The Strokes if it were fronted by Gwen Stefani with Muse’s bravado and you’ll get an idea what’s in store for  the UK-based quartet’s new single. Looks like the band will be spending much of 2016 at far-off locations in the Middle East and Asia with no word of a states tour in the future. Check out the single “All My Pride” below. Queue – “Falling Into Skies”

Philadelphia / DC based indie act Queue have a new song that is right up our alley. Queue’s song “Falling Into Skies” is emotional, with breath-y, sweet vocals over delicate guitars. Beneath the surface, “Falling Into Skies” is about falling for someone that is turbulent but gives you so much joy. The best way to describe Queue is if early Foals did a collaboration with Sarah McLachlan to form a sound in the same realm of the Temper Trap. The quintet have a forthcoming EP in the works. In the meantime, listen to “Falling Into Sky” below. Tonight: Turkuaz

Buffalo Iron Works is set to host Brooklyn-based powerfunk band, Turkuaz, this evening for undoubtedly the most fun you’ll have on a Wednesday. The band is no stranger to Buffalo, having played almost every stage that has been able to fit the nine-piece (Buffalo State’s Social Hall, Soundlab, Nietzsche’s, and now Iron Works.) Turkuaz, whose stock is rapidly rising on the festival circuit, combines soul and R&B to make an incredibly engaging sweaty show.  Fans of James Brown, Talking Heads, or Sly & The Family Stone would dig. Not to be forgotten is The Nth Power, who are equally as talented and buzzed about since their emergence at New Orleans Jazz Fest in 2012. Doors are at 8pm with a $16 cover.

dreambeaches Release New Single

Buffalo-based beach-y trio, dreambeaches, released their first single off their forthcoming album Habits. dreambeaches, lead by Corey Bzibizik sprang onto the local scene last year after splintering off from local synth-pop band,  Humble Braggers (and bringing Jacob Peter and Gabe Wells from said band along). Set for a late spring release, the summer-y lead single “Graduation Day” is a fuzzy-pop song that delves into casual frustrations – road rage, cocky college students, and watching a relationship fade away while you are still treading water. Put some shades on, drive with the windows down, blast “Graduation Day,” and care about nothing. Top 20 Buffalo Tracks: 10-1

It’s that time of year again, where we re-think and dissect every local song that we’ve come across organically or via submission. This is our fourth year counting down our top songs and this year, like every other year, has been difficult to whittle down. Like we always remind people, this list is subjective and not the end-all be all. Earlier this week we posted our five close calls and our first half of the top 20.  I am sure there are amazing local songs that aren’t on our radar, but from what we have heard, we as a group have determined below are the blog’s favorite songs of 2015. 10. Tiny Rhymes – “Arrows” Tiny Rhymes‘ ”Arrows” is an incredibly cherishable tune. It approaches the listener with a coy but welcoming softness, making it feel like a delicate gem that only you are privy to. Atop prime musicianship, singer Sharon Mok’s[...]

Cooler Releases Debut Track “Cringe”

Although Cooler is an infant in band years , the group is already well on it’s way to explode beyond Buffalo’s music walls. Composed of a blend of solo artist Aileen Yates, two members of Brother Keep (Nathan McDorman and Nick Sessanna), and rounded out by former Lancer drummer-turned-bassist Adam Cwynar, the band has hit the ground running, already landing a deal with emo upstart label, NDE Records. With an EP titled 1993 coming out September 22nd and another batch of studio sessions already completed, 2016 is set to be a breakout year for the fledgling four piece. This past week, Cooler’s grungy debut track “Cringe” hit the internet on esteemed scene blog CouchKing. Unsurprisingly, the song is all about looking back at all those things you regret doing in the past. Those moments that haunt you in the final minutes before falling asleep or the “on-repeat” moments you have when driving all alone. Fans of[...]
