Just Announced: DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist

After a few weeks of rumors, local promoter, Mike T. Marshall, just confirmed on his facebook page that influential DJ/producer, DJ Shadow, will be playing the Town Ballroom on Tuesday, November 11th along with Cut Chemist. Born as Joshua Davis and referred to as the “Jimi Hendrix of sampling,” Shadow is best known for his genre defining, debut release Endtroducing…, and for the development of the experimental instrumental hip hop scene. The two DJs will be in town for the vinyl-only, Renegades of Rhythm tour, honoring Afrika Bambaataa. I am not much of a DJ guy, but even I know this is a big one. Tickets are on sale right now for $27.50 in advance, $30 day of. I am guessing this show never reaches that day of price so buy your tickets now.

Just Announced: Turkuaz

Brooklyn party funk machine, Turkuaz, is set to return to Buffalo as the group has scheduled a date for the Waiting Room on Halloween night, Friday, October 31st. The ever growing collective will be touring along side of jam-tronic act, Jimkata. Those who have caught the band at their handful of Buffalo tops over the last couple years know they are in line for a high energy evening, and given that its Halloween night, who knows what the group will pull out. Tickets are now on sale for $12 in advance, $15 day of.

Just Announced: Arkells

Hamilton, Ontario’s Arkells will be making a welcome return to the Queen City when they hit up the Town Ballroom on Saturday, October 4th. The lads will be in town to promote their latest release, the excellent High Noon, which finds the sturdy and reliable Arkells taking their always pleasing power pop into Bruce Springsteen and Paul Weller territory with rather interesting results that reveal previously unknown depths to these almost local favorites. TIckets are $18, can be purchased at the Town Ballroom box office or online at Ticketfly, and are onsale right bloody now. Here’s the video for “Come To Light,” the lead single off High Noon and a taste of this new phase for Arkells.

Just Announced: Stars

Toronto romantics, Stars, will return to Buffalo this fall to play to another full house of wide-eyed dreamers. After playing the Tralf last year, the long time indie-pop act, which is one of the many off shoots of Broken Social Scene and the Arts & Crafts Collective, is set to return to the Main Street venue on Sunday, November 23rd. The five piece just announced their latest album, No One is Lost (10/14), the follow up to 2012’s The North, and as of yesterday, the album’s first single, “From The Night,” is currently streaming online (and also below). Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 15th, for $20.

Just Announced: Heavy Rotation – Back To School Dance

The fall semester is quickly approaching, which means to many of us (not me, I am sadly 30), summer is nearing its inevitable end. We thought we could help ease the pain of returning to the books by finally having our second go-around of our Heavy Rotation dance party series. We debuted our first installment last fall as part of the Elmwood Village’s annual Mass Appeal event at the Pierce Arrow, and for this time around, we are taking over the back room of Hardware to showcase some of our favorite area DJs with our very own back-to-school dance. On Friday, September 12th, join us as Chauncey Tails, DJ Pizza Pizza, and Teenwolf will man the back while Rick Jameson (Spooky Sean of Spooky Business) will loosen everyone up as he gets things going in the front room. Heavy Rotation: Back To School Dance is a 21+ event. Music kicks[...]

Just Announced: The Gaslight Anthem

New Jersey’s rousing, heartland rockers, the Gaslight Anthem, are set to to play Town Ballroom later next month on Wednesday, September 17th. Frequently drawing some Springsteen comparisons no thanks to lead singer Brain Fallon’s decidedly Boss-like vocals, and because New Jersey, the band’s latest record, Get Hurt, drops tomorrow. Providing support for the Gaslight Anthem will be Against Me!. The Gainesville act, led by Laura Jane Grace, has been making Buffalo a frequent stop as of late. Co-Presented by Funtime and After Dark Entertainment, tickets go on sale Friday, August 15th, at noon. Ticket prices are $26 in advance, $29 day of. Photo Credit – Ashley Maile

Just Announced: New Found Glory

On Tuesday, October 21st, many Buffalonians in their mid-20s will have a flashback to spiked bangs, Billabong shirts, and Dickies shorts as 90s punk-pop heavyweights, New Found Glory, will be bringing their “The Glamour Kills Tour” to the Town Ballroom. Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 8th, at noon for $22.50 advance, $26 day of.

Just Announced: Hooray for Earth

With Sugar City’s official grand opening weekend just around the corner on Friday, August 15th, the newly relocated DIY collective is wasting no time in locking in some great shows to lead another great Buffalo summer to its triumphant finish. On Wednesday, August 20th, the new Niagara Street home base will be hosting NYC pysch-tronic act, Hooray for Earth. The band will be on the road promoting their at-the-time newly released album, Racy, set to drop next Tuesday, July 29th. Keep an eye out for tickets prices in the very near future.

Just Announced: This Will Destroy You

Only three days into summer 2014, the Tralf continues to flesh out its fall schedule, this time booking the Texas instrumental four-piece This Will Destroy You for a Wednesday, October 29th stop. Fans of fellow Texas post-rockers Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, or pretty much any band that is heavy on the emotions while saving on the vocals will want to catch this show. Expect the word “epic” to be used often. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 27th, at noon for $12 in advance, $14 day of.

Just Announced: Foster the People

Man did the Tralf ever strike gold when they booked Foster the People a few years back. Their mega single, “Pumped Up Kicks,” had just started to blow up, resulting in a sold-out (I think) show in 2011 that I imagined left the Tralf promoters feeling pretty, pretty good. Just today, the pop trio, along with Alt Buffalo, announced its impending return to Buffalo with a show scheduled for Canalside on Thursday, September 11th. Back when the Canalside lineup was announced, there was an open date which was rumored to be filled with a bigger name act, and as it turns, that act is Foster the People. Could have been worse I suppose. Tickets will be available to purchase from $15-$55, starting this Friday, June 27th, at noon. Those free Thursday shows aren’t looking all that bad now, are they?

Just Announced: Pinback

Earlier today, long time San Diego indie act, Pinback, announced a tour to commemorate 10th anniversary of the release of their Summer in Abandon album, and luckily for us, the tour is set to include a stop at Buffalo Iron Works on Tuesday, September 16th. Led by Rob Crow, Pinback’s bass-heavy groove has been soothing their listeners for over 15 years. Their arrival in Buffalo should put a nice cap on an already packed WNY summer season. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 20th, at noon for $16. Tera Melos will be providing support.

Just Announced: Deafheaven

Buzzing black-metal/shoegze act, Deafheaven, will put a cap on the Tralf’s summer season as they roll through town on Thursday, September 18th. After releasing one of 2013’s best reviewed albums in Sunbather, the San Fran based act will make its Buffalo return after playing Soundlab a couple years back, joining fellow heavies like Boris and Swans in the downtown venue’s diverse summer schedule. Supporting Deafheaven on the bill will be No Joy and Indian Handcrafts. Tickets go on sale this Friday for $14 in advance/$16 day of

Just Announced: White Fence

The Tralf continues to fill up its 2014 schedule as the downtown venue is set to welcome White Fence, the solo project of lo-fi psych rocker Tim Presley, on Sunday, October 19th. Set to release its latest record, the Ty Segall produced To The Recently Found Innocent, this summer, White Fence would be best suited for fans of fellow San Fran garage acts like The Oh Sees and Segall. Australian punk collective King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will be providing support. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, June 6th, at noon for $12 in advance, $14 day of.

Just Announced: Lorde

Continuing to support her 2013 mega album Pure Heroine, current pop It-Girl, Lorde, will be making her WNY debut at Artpark’s Mainstage Theatre on Sunday, September 7th. Hailed as one of the biggest indie-pop crossovers in the last couple of years, Lorde will be sure to please the closet music elitists fans, and lure the suburbanites out to Lewiston like the Pied Piper. Supporting Lorde will be moody indie duo Majical Cloudz. Tickets will go on sale Friday, June 6th at 10am for $39.50, $49.50, and $59.50.
