Tonight: Feverbox

Babeville doesn’t disappoint with their show line-ups and tonight is no different. Tonight the Delaware Ave venue hosts Feverbox’s official release party for their brand spanking new self-titled EP. Forming in 2015, the band has been on the rise in the local scene, playing strong bills all over the city. Feverbox’s EP was written and recorded by the bands themselves over the pats six motnhs. “I would say it’s probably in the same vein”  says Nico Kelly, Feverbox bassist. “(the music) is much more concentrated, a little more mature. The EP flows much better between songs than any singles we’ve released in the past.” Also on the bill this evening supporting Feverbox will be old friends Super American who just dropped their own release and psych rock outfit Deadwolf.  Doors open at 8pm,  or $8 dollars at the door. Acid Dad at Studio at Waiting Room (4/2/17)

On April 2nd, New York City’s Acid Dad brought the seductive swagger of their gritty garage rock sound to the Studio at Waiting Room for a night of debauchery. Along for the ride were Brooklyn’s Honduras, who kept the spirit of ’77 alive with their unbridled take on downtown punk, earning their stripes from rock ’n’ roll’s true believers. Representing Buffalo’s local scene that evening,  Deadwolf’s psychedelic stomp and Ugly Sun’s bare-knuckle riffs set the stage for the main event. Check out the photos below. Tonight: Acid Dad

Tonight the Waiting Room hosts a downstate vs upstate New York battle of the bands when NYC’s Acid Dad and Brooklyn post punks Honduras share a bill with local fellas Ugly Sun and Deadwolf. Actually, it’s not a battle of the bands at all; everybody’s cool and there’s no cash prizes or bragging rights on the line (or are there?), and the real winners are local fans of garage and psychedelic rock down to kick it out on a Sunday night with these fine bands. NYC power trio Acid Dad specialize in the kind of sleezy garage rock usually ideal for getaway driving in vintage cars and/or driving on dark roads with the headlights off under the influence. Brooklyn’s Honduras meanwhile have been generating buzz in all the right places thanks to a raw garage rock that mainlines that 70’s downtown punk sound to satisfying effect. Local openers are both blog[...]

Deadwolf Achieve Liftoff On Latest Single “Half A Man”

“Half A Man,” the latest single from Buffalo psych rockers, blew my mind straight up. If you haven’t already gotten this towering, epic jam into your ears, you really need to do so immediately. Anchored by drums that conjure seventies Genesis, spaced out, Drozdesque guitars, and glorious California folk rock vocal harmonies, “Half A Man” achieves celestial liftoff  and doesn’t come back, opting for sweet electronic oblivion instead. It’s B-side “To The Garden” is six minutes of nimble, psychedelic garage rock that simultaneously reminds me of Talking Heads and The Beach Boys and the American songbook these dudes are joyfully shredding on. Please check them out below and Deadwolf’s Bandcamp page for more goodness.

Tonight: Harmonica Lewinski

Rochester retro rockers Harmonica Lewinski make a trip west on the 90 to stir up some trouble and some lewd and lascivious thoughts at Milkie’s on Elmwood. True Rochester and local favorites, you know you’re in for rowdiness at a HL show, especially with local ne’er-do-wells Deadwolf and the newly rechristened Johnny & The Man Kids (aka Pepperoni Boys, aka Spaghetti Boys) opening the show. Come hear songs from Harmonica Lewinksi’s full length debut Head Honcho and cope with… things through some dangerous and properly delinquent rock and roll. It will make you feel good. Or less bad. Cover is $5 and doors open at 9pm. Head Honcho by Harmonica Lewinski

Tonight: Herd Fest Day Two

Tonight we launch into the busy portion of Herd Fest with day two of the festival. Tonight programming spans across five venues. Earliest show starts at 8pm at Mohawk Place with gravelly indie rockers via Syracuse, Bridge Under Fire, dreampop synth artist Daniel Robinson, sunny Bryan Johnson and Family, indie-pop act Comfy, industrial goth duo and the heavily anticipated psych set by Ex-Pat. $5 cover. At about 9:30pm, Milkie’s launches into their set programming, with emo revivalists from Rochester (and formerly of Michigan), Charmer. After that are straight rock band The Soft Love, psych-rock act Deadwolf, stripped down indie original Moody Cosmos, and rounding out the night is comedy act Wood Bois. If you are a fan of Flight of the Conchords or The Cure, then you should mark this set down. $5 cover. If you get there before 9:30pm, you might be able to catch WWE Hall of Famer[...]

The Soft Love EP Release Show at Mr. Goodbar (6/4/16)

This was the first Buffalo local show I’ve attended in quite some time considering I’ve been on the road so much. I’m glad I went to this because I’m truly stoked in the direction the music scene is heading in right now. I felt like I was in Brooklyn. Check out the photos below to see what I mean. Tonight: Jeff the Brotherhood

Tonight, one of indie rock’s most celebrated “it” bands will be gracing the stage at the Waiting Room (Studio). Jeff the Brotherhood has been a consistent highlight of the scene for the past few years. Their assorted mix of sounds, ranging from punk to garage rock to psychedelic heavy-fuzz crunch, has made them a constant talked about band, especially since they’ve split releases with other great bands such as Best Coast and Ty Segall. The duo will be sharing the stage tonight with another celebrated “live act” (one of many bloggers favorites for best live shows), Diarrhea Planet. Don’t let the name dissuade you. Diarrhea Planet write some of the catchiest songs in the pop/punk/garage realm and kill audiences consistently with their all-out assault. Openers tonight include Buffalo’s own MAGS and Deadwolf. Get there at 7 to check out all the bands ($17).

Tonight: The Multiple Cat

The angular pop mainstays in The Multiple Cat (IA) will make their way through Buffalo tonight on a musically diverse bill presented by Queen City Cartel. As a band, The Multiple Cat has stood the test of time as the ever-evolving project has spanned a nearly 20 year timeframe. Some of their latest material—see “Magic That Doesn’t Work,” below—finds a happy medium between indie rock and alt-country, feel-good tambourine vibes a-rumblin’. Make your way down to The Gypsy Parlor tonight to bask, dance, and maybe bask some more. In the name of true eclecticism, local support tonight will be provided by wild garage punk trio Kharlos and soaring psyche rockers Deadwolf, both acts having released fresh material this year. The party starts at 10pm for a cool $5.

Tonight: The Bones of J.R. Jones

J.R. Linabury, the one-man creative force behind the era-bending blues tunes of solo project The Bones of J.R. Jones, will take the iconic stage of Mohawk Place later tonight. “Solo” is a word that only goes so far when describing the project; Linabury may be the only body on stage during performances, but somehow he doesnt appear alone. He transcends the one man/one guitar stigma, crafting swirling folk songs using guitar, banjo, hi-hat, and bass drum in a commendably simultaneous fashion. The whole package is astonishingly honest, and shatters the boundaries and limiting capabilities of “solo” projects as they’re typically defined. Joining J.R. on tonight’s bill are the harmony kings in local psyche act Deadwolf and the soulful musings of Jacob Peter (Humble Braggers, Dreambeaches), also of Buffalo. Doors open promptly at 7pm with a $5 cover.

Deadwolf Shares First Single “Now & Then”

The revamped psych rock outfit Deadwolf, now featuring singer/songwriter Andy Pothier on drums, made its live debut this past Friday supporting Sleepy Hahas’ tour kick off show at Nietzsche’s. And because timing is everything, the five piece shared its first single, “Now & Then,” online prior to shaking the stage. The track features bluesy riffs and just enough retro swagger for fans of acts like the Black Angels and the Bright Light Social Hour. The single’s groovy artwork comes courtesy of Peter Cahlstadt’s Moody Designs. If you like what you hear, you can catch Deadwolf next live at Mohawk Place on November 25th with Second Trip and Malarchuk. In the mean time, listen to “Now & Then” below. Tonight: Sleepy Hahas

Buffalo psych rock band Sleepy Hahas has continued to expand on its fuzzy brand of indie rock since releasing the album of the week-earning 2014 LP Dull Days. Back in June, the band put out a single “Deep River,” showing off a slightly more noisy, experimental sound that sits somewhere between the Black Keys blues rock and Tame Impala’s more recent electronic explorations. Tonight, the band will perform at Nietzsche’s, marking the beginning of a two week East Coast tour for the band that includes shows in Brooklyn, Boston, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia. Also performing tonight are local indie band M.A.G.S., whose impressive Cellophane debut caught our attention back in February and Buffalo-based garage rockers The Tins, as well as the debut performance from the revamped blues-rockers, Deadwolf. Music starts at 9:30pm. ;
