Post-hardcore veterans Quicksand make a stop at the Town Ballroom tonight. In 1995, the group broke up while at the height of their success, and after only two albums. What will probably be one of the best indie shows of the year is happening tonight in Niagara Falls. The Rapids Theater will host two enormous acts, Mac DeMarco and the Flaming Lips, who will soon be releasing a split record where they cover each other’s songs. The two giants are only playing seven shows together, and the Buffalo area is lucky enough to be home to one of them. Mac recently dropped a fantastic full length, titled This Old Dog, so expect to hear some cuts off of that, the usual cuts off of his other records, as well as his some of his famous live classic cover tracks, of course. The Lips also had a great record drop early this year, titled Oczy Mlody. Be prepared for lots of bonkers stage antics and sublime moments throughout the crowd. If you were unable to score tickets, you might be out of luck.[...]

Tonight: Pile

Tonight the 9th Ward will be playing host to Boston’s Pile, touring on the heels of their latest LP,  A Hairshirt of Purpose. Pile are never ones to disappoint and their new record is more of the same high octane ferocity. They’re one of those special kinds of groups, the kind that makes their name on being superb live performers. They’re the band that your friend will see live and then all they’ll talk about for the next few weeks is how crazy the show was.  Pile also don’t neatly fit into any single classification and always keep things exhilarating. Alongside with Pile are a couple of local stalwarts. Be Locust or Alone and freak pop/indie rockers, Hot Tip. Doors are at 8pm, $13 day of show.

Tonight: The Get Up Kids

Legendary Kansas act The Get Up Kids are rolling through Buffalo tonight… So lace up your ratty old converse and dust off that threadbare band t-shirt, this is probably the coolest thing you could go do on a Tuesday. Often cited as (some of) the godfathers of the emo genre, the band is sure to perform an incredible set full of fan favorites and deep cuts from their impressive 20+ year career. They also have fellow emo-veteran Evan Weiss in tow in his buzzing emo-pop band Pet Symmetry. For those that haven’t heard, this show has been moved from the Waiting Room to Town Ballroom – tickets purchased for Waiting Room are valid and will be honored at the show. Doors are at 7pm. Tonight: Beach Slang

Tonight Mohawk Place is the spot for a total rager that’s descending onto Buffalo when Philly’s Beach Slang come into town.  Beach Slang are dropping a new EP titled, We Were Babies & We Were Dirtbags, which is a tonal shift for the ear-splitting post-punk group. The new EP features cellos and pianos and an all together, gentler sound. The shift shows a marked evolution for the band. Their first and second records are brash, energetic and  make their statement on the decaying nature of youth.  It’s going to be wild to see how they incorporate pieces from the EP into their typically loud punk shows. Sharing the night with Beach Slang will be *repeat repeat, a surf/garage rock outfit hailing from Nashville, TN, and Buffalo’s own post-punk act Orations. Doors are at 7pm, $17 at the door.

Tonight: Conor Oberst

After a bit of a prolonged local absence, Conor Oberst, sans his Bright Eyes moniker, will be returning to the Buffalo area tonight to perform within the acoustically rich walls of Babeville’s Asbury Hall. The Saddle Creek all-star has been touring in support of his latest record Salutations, the full band follow-up to last year’s bare bones Ruminations. The former reworked a number of the 2016 release’s tracks in addition to adding a handful of new songs to fill out the collection. Opening up for Oberst will be one of NPR’s current obsessions, the breakthrough folk singer Phoebe Bridgers. Tickets are still available to grab at the door for $30 or $35 dollars. Music is set to kick off at 8pm.

Tonight: !!!

Yes you read it right. The !!! and Algiers show originally scheduled for the now defunct Waiting Room then cancelled outright is back on later tonight at the Mohawk.
