Buffalo artist Early Bird’s hot new release “My Town” is the latest single following a year filled with numerous new tracks. “My Town” is a party song with smooth vocals featuring  heavy 808’s as well as a catchy hook with repeated lines that will have you singing along. Early Bird’s verses fit perfectly with the beat and carry the momentum through the whole track, creating a flow that feels like it has a current running through it. Early Bird’s music career started in 2016 as lead vocals for a metal group, but he shifted genres for his solo work. Taking influence from various genres including hip hop, rap, R&B, and metal, Early Bird eventually released his first single “Racks” in 2019. Apocalypseboyo is bringing the bass, the vibes, and scope with debut single, “Moving On.” The duo draw from indie rock and hip-hop, hinting strongly at pop melodies while playing with larger soundscapes, all while maintaining the groove and bass as the focus of the song. Sharp hip hop drums keep you in pocket they create, while the bass slathers all over the track. Alaska’s synth-pop maestro Paul Jacks is back (catch our previous feature on Paul here)! Amphibious, his first LP in three years, releases March 3 on Tritone Records. Leading the release is single “Left in a Haste,” a bright pop song whose synths burst forth with melody and dance with the interweaving guitar lines. Your hips start shifting and swaying as Paul Jacks reverb’d vocals bounce on the beat while telling a story of regret and self admonishment, consoling oneself after making a familiar mistake that has burnt the singer before. Beachdust – “Ghost Dance”

California Native, Anthony Geovanny, brings us their latest single “Ghost Dance” from his collaborative solo project Beach Dust. Hayes Noble – “Forget It”

Northwest Illinois native Hayes Noble’s debut album Head Cleaner is due out in under a month and they are starting strong with first single “Forget It.” The single combines earsplitting shoegaze and post-hardcore with a nod to guitar driven indie noise that burst out of the mid-80’s punk scene. Fuzzy, tube driven guitar surges forward, scattering and dispersing into a wide wall of sound that Hayes harnesses into riffs and rocking rhythms. Young Hayes’ earnest vocals stand on that bed of noise while never being engulfed by it. The home recording enthusiast uses a strong punk drum beat, full of fun punk fills. Savagery released their first track, “Laughter,” a fuzz-pop track gone awry. The song centers around a scorned relationship eroded after disloyalty that can’t be laughed off. Sonically sharp staccato’d percussion compressed so far it almost sounds like a glitchy hard drive clicking while being revisited by Savagery’s past love, them full of regret reflecting on their disloyalty and the happiness they missed because of their betrayal. Savagery’s haunting singing is the center piece with synths layering under them to create a ghostly double vision effect, while melodic synths and interweaving guitar line dance above their venomous lyrics. Bobby Saffron x Eliza Shaddad – “Oceana”

Coming from Birmingham, Bobby Saffron combines his skills with Eliza Shaddad for a new indie pop track called “Oceana.”  The bouncing rubbery bass, hand claps, and sugary synths keeps you bopping along with Bobby and Eliza’s shimmering pop vocals which play off each other wonderfully. The track culminates into an ear worm chorus but is outdone by a deft and smooth bridge before the sugar rush of the final chorus. In the summer of 2020, a panic attack on the Ilkley Moors kicked off a period of anxiety for Bobby, leading him to reconsider various parts of his life, including his role as frontman for South London slink rockers CHILDCARE. In the resulting tussle with his sanity, he moved to Birmingham, built a studio in his garden, and started making music on his own. Gryningen – “Radioskugga”

Swedish west coast noise pop group Gryningen come from Gothenburg with their first single, “Radioskugga.” It opens with a tape click and light flanger guitar strum, but that tone quickly cracks open like the maw of an oceanic beast. That large chasm of wailing guitar closes up fast with a fuzzy indie rock guitar riff that fills your chest and head with rockin’ fun fuzz. The familiar tasty rock sound grows ominous as the bottom end on it opens up to let the noise in. The track shifts deftly under your feet bringing undulating cascading horns twilling from above disorientating and thrilling the listener. luvliminall – “4.186”

Coming at us all the way from Japan, luvliminall hit our inboxes with the fiery energy of latest single, “4.186.” With shoegazy guitars and an explosively noisy sound reminiscent of Japandroids or your favorite midwest emo-punks, “4.186” makes full use of its guitar-driven backbone. The bass and drums bring a lot of flavor to the song as well, bolstering the guitar’s spastic urgency with a much-appreciated rooting. Overtop the blasts of instrumental chaos is a gentle-but-poignant vocal, delivering just the right amount of sugary sweetness to this otherwise spicy track. Luka James – “Shake Free”

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Luka James wants you to shake off your worries with the release of his his latest jam, “Shake Free.” A gentle intro (complete with chirping birds) lulls you into a relaxed daze before picking up into the surfy indie pop that comprises most of the song. Luka’s soothing vocals give off an upbeat mood that pairs perfectly with the upbeat, guitar-driven instrumentals here… It really is a mood booster – so throw it on your morning playlist if you’ve been finding it a little hard to peel yourself out of bed. Blair Gun – “Pound Sand”

San Diego-based act Blair Gun are gearing up for the release of their upcoming album (March 3rd, 2023) with latest single, “Pound Sand.” The quartet specialize in a 90s-esque brand of indie rock, utilizing crunchy guitars, slightly-unhinged vocals, and big guitar riffs. Our favorite part of the song kicks in around the :40 mark, where the band pair a bouncy rhythm with a super tasty guitar lick before ripping into something a little more aggressive. Peäsänt – “Wounds”

Peäsänt don’t shy away from hard partying and that raucousness comes out in their music – “Wounds” their latest single, has the same grungy, mid-aughts garage rock aesthetic that made stars out of The Strokes. Full of gravely-voiced lyrics, tasty guitar licks, and an overarching don’t-give-a-fuck energy, “Wounds” would be the perfect soundtrack to jumping through a table or smashing beer bottles against the wall… Just don’t tell your landlord.
