Tonight: What Moon Things

Head over to the east side tonight for a gig for the real weirdos. Fresh off of the release of their new LP, Someone Who Isn’t Me, avant-pop act, What Moon Things, are heading from Brooklyn to Buffalo for their first show in the city. Accompanying them on their week and a half long tour are a freak folk act, Pecas, from New Paltz. Also on the bill are local post rock act, Tomoreaux, as well as Circular Logic. Deep Space Eight is a DIY spot so you might have to do some investigating to find the location. Music is set to kick off at 8:30pm with a cover of just $5. Someone Who Isn’t Me by What Moon Things

Tonight: Jouska

If you thought your Wednesday night wouldn’t be very exciting, Dreamland has you covered.  Two touring bands will be rolling though the Franklin St. venue, along with some locals. Jouska will be returning from Albany, who recently signed to Tiny Engines records with a new full length album that dropped late last year, titled Topiary.  New Jersey pop rockers, Teenage Halloween, will also be rolling through town. Show up early to catch local hard hitters Uniform OPR and Tomoreaux. The gig is set to kick off at 8pm, and bringing $5 to support the two touring acts is a must.

Tonight: Tomoreaux

There are just too many jokes I could make about the title of this post, so I’m just going to leave it alone. All jokes aside, Allentown house venue Little Baltimore is hosting a stacked lineup of bands tonight for your listening pleasure that is just straight up dreamy. The all local bill consists of dream pop act Coral Collapse, folkgaze act The Leones, post jammers Lazlo Hollyfield, and the return of Buffalo post rock / shoegazers, Tomoreaux. Shows We Shot in January

While buffaBLOG was on break the past month, blog photographer Brendan O’Connor was out there doing what he does best: taking pictures of bands. While he didn’t have a chance to shoot any major national touring acts, he took the time to photograph some local Buffalo acts, and went out on a little weekend tour with local post- rock outfit Tomoreaux. On tour, he caught some incredible acts such as Albany’s existential goth poppers Slowshine,  Rochester lo-fi duo Buffalo Sex Change, and the stellar up-and-coming pop punk young guns Prince Daddy and the Hyena. In addition, Brendan made a couple trips out to Fredonia where he also had the chance to shoot buffaBLOG favorites, M.A.G.S. and Sixties Future, as well as Fredonia psych-rockers Mooses. To kick the post off, though, we’ll start off with one of Yace Booking’s best events to date, which served as Tomoreaux’s album release party, featuring Cooler, Passed Out, and Brimstone Blondes.  You can click HERE for a[...]

Tomoreaux – At Peace, Overlook

Welcome back, readers! This week marks the return of buffaBLOG’s Album of the Week series—our weekly dose of recommended local music that we find to be worthy of commendation. We here at buffaBLOG have primarily covered Buffalo and Rochester over the past 6 years, and while both music scenes are brimming with talent worthy of mention, this year we will be expanding our coverage to include bands that call home to the farther reaches of the state. So with the new year, and our broadened range of coverage, the Album of the Week slot becomes the best of the best of the best of local music. With that said, it seems only fitting that the first Album of the Week of 2016 comes at you right from the snowy confines of good ol’ Buffalo. Enter At Peace, Overlook, the debut release from post-rock shoegazers Tomoreaux. The album—though only 8 tracks[...]

Tomoreaux Release Single from Forthcoming Debut Album

Local atmospheric nature rockers Tomoreaux have just released”In Plain Air,” the first single from the trio’s forthcoming debut record At Peace, Overlook. The new track channels the best of Sigur Ros and Local Natives, slowly building presence around a wispy, chiming guitar motif. The song’s apex finds the band experimenting with spacey chants and whispered falsetto, reminiscent of subtle Animal Collective vibes. You can catch Tomoreaux at their CD release next year (on 1/8/16 that is). Show details can be found HERE; while you browse show details, please enjoy the sounds of Tomoreaux below. Top 20 Buffalo Tracks: 5 Close Calls

It’s that time of year again, where we re-think and dissect every local song that we’ve come across organically or via submission. This is our fourth year counting down our top songs and this year, like every other year, has been difficult to whittle down. Like we always remind people, this list is subjective and not the end-all be all. I am sure there are amazing local songs that aren’t on our radar, but from what we have heard, we as a group have determined as the blog are our favorite songs of 2015. Here are five great songs ALMOST made our top 20. The Slums – “Plain Pine Box”  The Slums always deliver the perfect thrash song but “Plain Pine Box” might be the most perfect yet. “You can call me first and final nail in a plain pine box, I said I’d keep you separate but I guess[...]

Tonight: Aircraft

Buffalo’s heady psych pop outfit Aircraft will return to Mohawk Place’s stage tonight as the group continues to tour in support of its latest record, the Admirable Traits released 7 Gems From the Sparkling Void. With a healthy dose of surf and space rock, the album continues to raise the ceiling of one of the city’s most cherished and promising acts. Those who have yet to catch the band live will be #blessed tonight with some fantastic harmonies and exhilarating musicianship. Joining Aircraft tonight will be rising Rust Belt post-rockers Tomoreaux and sardonic slackers Difficult Night, both of which are set to release a new album over the next couple months. Rounding out the bill will be the debut local performance from Albany’s dark shoegazers, Slowshine. Doors open at Mohawk Place this evening at 8pm with a cover of $5.

Tonight Buffalo’s newest psychedelic guru Pappy Stardust celebrates the release of his latest CD All Around Sound with Tomoreaux, Mooses side project Moody Cosmos, and Buffalo dream pop outfit SHEDS. The brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Steve Leszyk, Pappy Stardust has emerged as a supremely bold and experimental force for mind expansion, like the entire lineup for tonight’s show at Sugar City, and All Around Sound is a definitely a journey into out there sounds. Doors open at 7pm, and it’s pay what you can, so don’t be stingy. All Around Sound by Pappy Stardust

Tonight: Spoon

Indie rock legends Spoon stop by Canalside tonight for the fourth week of free music down at the waterfront. In what is bound to be one of the highlights of the series, Britt Daniels and Jim Eno bring their nearly two-decade old band around for the first time in a long time. Spoon will no doubt be playing songs off of their most recent LP, 2014’s fantastic They Want My Soul. Also worth checking out before you head down to the harbor is the band’s cover of The Cramps’ “TV Set” that they recently performed on Conan (see below). July Talk will precede Spoon with Battle of the Jam Bands winner Tomorreaux kicking things off at 6PM. VIP passes are $40 as is the usual for these shows. For the rest of us, it’s free.

Tomoreaux Releases “Bennington” Single

Tomoreaux first caught our interest last year while performing under the name of Yesterday vs. Tomorrow. The pair has just released its latest in the Mark Rothko E.P., a collection of anthemic Muse meets Taking Back Sunday tunes. Since then, the band has grown to a quartet while renaming itself to Tomoreaux. Late last week, the four piece dropped the first single from its yet to be titled album. “Bennington” sticks with the group’s penchant for the grandiose, but now has honed in on an emotive, Explosions in the Sky-esque post rock sound. The band is set to open for Spoon and July Talk at Canalside this Thursday, so if you like what you hear, head down to the water early. In the mean time, check out “Bennington” below.
