Tonight: Taking Meds

Sewing Souls is set to be a real rager with a stacked bill this evening. Coming out from Rochester will be math-rock/pop-punk outfit, Taking Meds. The band released their full-length debut record, My Life as a Bro recently and are an intoxicating cocktail mixture of math-rock elements with just a bit of punk/pop sound to keep things groovy. Filling out the night’s roster are Alleys, a punk/emo group that showcase solid guitar compositions and a high octane energy, Passed Out, who just released their newest single, “the inverse is true,” and Slow Cooker, who always bring it with fast, solid tunes that mash up surfer rock that sounds like it’s been dragged through the mud and back. The night’s tunes start at 8pm. Cover is $3. My Life as a Bro by Taking Meds

Tonight: Wildhoney

After multiple nights of awesome shows over the past week or so, Mohawk Place continues it’s streak with a show from Baltimore’s Wildhoney.  The dream pop tinged shoegaze act has not put out any new music for quite some time, but what they have in their catalog so far is stellar.  Their last LP, Your Face Sideways, came out on Topshelf records in 2015, and is filled with catchy hooks and dreamy undertones from front to back.  As heard in their Audiotree session, I’m sure the band’s massive sound will translate fantastic in a live setting. Buffalo’s own honey and the Good Neighbors will open the show, alongside Albany’s Cannon the Brave.  Tickets are available at the door for $10, and doors are set to open at 8.

Tonight: Of Montreal

of Montreal will be making their what seems to be their yearly stop in Buffalo tonight.  Since their inception, of Montreal has basically been dropping a project a year, all having their own unique feel.  The band is currently on tour for their 2016 full length, Innocence Reaches, and gracing the stage tonight at Buffalo’s Asbury Hall.  Most of the band’s performances in Buffalo have been at the Town Ballroom, and a change of scenery for this show should be something to look forward to.  If you’ve ever been to an of Montreal show before, you should know that this will a show you won’t want to miss.  Set lists spanning their entire discography, insane stage antics, as well as the band’s ability to make every place they play feel like a stadium, all come together to create some of the most interesting live shows I’ve ever seen. The show will[...]

Doors open for the show at 6:30pm, with a showtime of 7:30pm. Tickets are $19 at the door, which is a small price to pay for this stacked bill.

Tonight: Alpha Hopper LP Release Show

Dreamland is most defintely going to be the place to be tonight.   Everyone’s favorite post punk freakers, Alpha Hopper, are finally releasing their LP tonight, and to celebrate, are having a stacked release show at Dreamland.  It is pretty tough to describe Alpha Hoppers unique sound, so you’re probably better off getting to the show and seeing for yourself.  The new full length, Last Chance Power Drive, is getting a physical vinyl release as well, which should be for sale at the show. The show will feature support from local heavy hitters, Space is Haunted, Trinkt, and Gun Candy. The show is set to kick off at 8pm at Milkies, with a small cover charge of only 3 bucks. Head out to see some great live acts and send off Jamie and the Debt the right way.

Tonight: Tomoreaux

There are just too many jokes I could make about the title of this post, so I’m just going to leave it alone. All jokes aside, Allentown house venue Little Baltimore is hosting a stacked lineup of bands tonight for your listening pleasure that is just straight up dreamy. The all local bill consists of dream pop act Coral Collapse, folkgaze act The Leones, post jammers Lazlo Hollyfield, and the return of Buffalo post rock / shoegazers, Tomoreaux. Doors open at the Mohawk Place at 8pm, with music starting at 9pm.  For a cover of only 5[...]

In what seems to be their bi-annual trek to Buffalo,  New Jersey punk Titus Andronicus will be bringing their show to the Tralf Music Hall tonight.  This will be the first stop in Buffalo on tour for their recent punk epic, titled The Most Lamentable Tragedy.  The triple LP, released on Merge Records in July of last year, is a collection that spans all eras and sounds of the band’s history.  Hugely personal ambitious in nature, the 90 minute rock opera will no doubt translate into an intense live experience. Those who get to the gig early will be in for an extra treat as well, as Craig Finn of The Hold Steady will be kicking the night off.  Doors open at 7pm with a showtime of 8pm, and tickets are still available at the door for $17.  If you have found yourself at one of the Titus Andronicus live shows in Buffalo over[...]

Tonight: The Wonder Years

Tonight, one of the biggest pop punk bands around right now will be rolling through the Town Ballroom.  After dropping a new full length last year, pop-punk veterans The Wonder Years, are bringing a crew of bands with that are sure to make all the sad boy attendees happy, if only for a night. Sharing the stage with the Wonder Years will be post hardcore act Letlive., indie / post rock act Microwave, and Buffalo favorites Tiny Moving Parts. Expect to hear the new single off of celbrate, titled “Happy Birthday,” tonight. Doors open at the Ballroom at 6:30pm, with tickets still available at the door for $23.

Tonight: PUP

The Studio at the Waiting Room is about to have one of the most insane live shows of 2016 in early February.  Since the release of their self-titled debut in 2014,  the band has played both headlining and supporting sets in Buffalo multiple times.  Even at their first show, I was surprised by the amount of audience participation. By the end of the set the lead singer of PUP even crowd surfing while covering “Sabatoge” by the Beastie Boys. Last December,  PUP played a set in their hometown of Toronto that I will never forget. It was easily one of my favorite sets I saw ANY band play that year.  The energy that this band is able to play within the crowd they play for is unlike anything I’ve seen. I’m crossing my fingers that tonight will be no different. Kicking the night off will be local indie tinged post hardcore[...]
