Pitchfork Music Festival at Union Park (7/15/17)

In it’s 12th year, Pitchfork Music Festival continued to prove its longevity, boasting three sold out days and another jam packed, stellar lineup. Thousands flocked to Union Park in Chicago, making this year what seemed like the most crowded the festival has been in our three years of coverage. With another incredible year filled with countless memorable moments in the books, we take a look back at the weekend through the lens of our blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor. Take a look at some photos from Saturday below, featuring Vagabon, Jeff Rosenstock, Weyes Blood, Cherry Glazerr, Mitski, Francis and the Lights, Angel Olsen, S U R V I V E, and A Tribe Called Quest.  Take a look at our photo gallery from Friday HERE. buffaBLOG is elated to announce that we will be covering the Pitchfork Music Festival for the third year in a row. The festival takes place at Union Park in Chicago, and we are sending blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor, to capture all of the action. The festival will take place July 14th through July 16th and will be headlined by LCD Soundsystem, A Tribe Called Quest, and Solange, with dozens of other amazing performers sprinkled across the weekend.  In anticipation of the festival, here are the five acts we are most excited to see on Saturday.  You can check out Brendan’s photos from last year HERE, HERE, and HERE. Jeff Rosenstock @ the Red Stage, 1:45pm God damn this band is fun. While I am honestly a little surprised that they are playing Pitchfork Fest, I am still super excited. I’ve seen Jeff a few times in the past, and his live shows are always exceedingly energetic.[...]

Tonight: Jeff Rosenstock

Tonight’s lineup at Mohawk Place boasts a slew of indie rockers. Long Island native Jeff Rosenstock brings his energetic brand of punk to Buffalo, with an extensive catalog of music to pull from. The veteran takes the stage with a few up and comers worth checking out. Rosenstock has been in and out of bands through most of his career. He has contributed guitar/vocals/songwriting to Bomb the Music Industry!, Kudrow, and The Arrogant Sons of Bitches to name a few. Now touring with his own solo material, he is well versed in the upbeat world of DIY indie pop. In addition to Rosenstock will be Columbus, Ohio’s own Sidekicks, as well as Salt Lake City natives Quiet Oaks, both supplying a chaotic element to the lineup. Also play are Buffalo’s Seven Thirty Seven who round out the bill with their skacore anthems this evening. Doors open at 7pm with a $14 cover[...]

Modern Baseball at the Opera House (12/03/15)

Well, I learned three things at this show. One, that Jeff Rosenstock needs to be elected president. I’m not really sure why, but he does. Second, that there is nothing like the absolute MADNESS of a sold out PUP hometown show, and third being that stage diving is a dangerous game. Almost right from the get go with Tiny Moving Parts, the crowd was in a frenzy, passionately singing along to the band’s deeply personal, hard hitting lyrics.  Jeff Rosenstock then took the stage and initiated a total party, screaming at the top of his lungs, and even with being the one band on this tour that COULD be considered the odd one out, seemingly had won the entire crowd over by the end of his set, following a great cover of “Dancing Queen” by ABBA. Then, things got real insane real quick.  It’s almost hard to explain how the home town[...]

Jeff Rosenstock – We Cool?

The opening lyrics on We Cool? are softly sung, “When your friends are buying starter homes with their accomplishments, drinking at a house show can feel childish and embarrassing. People glaring because despite what the advertisement said, drinking malt liquor doesn’t make you young.” This is an amazing preface to the overall tone of Jeff Rosenstock’s latest solo effort. Jeff Rosenstock is the former frontman and vocalist of the now broken up punk / indie group Bomb the Music Industry!  After the band’s breakup, Rosenstock has taken another stab at his own self titled solo project. I will admit, while I have heard off Jeff and Bomb the Music Industry!, I never really gave them a fair listen.  After listening to We Cool?, I am really starting to regret that. The most notable quality  on this record is the honesty in Rosenstock’s lyrics.  From the aforementioned first lines, the album[...]
