Tonight: Diamond Nights

Tonight Milkie’s on Elmwood hosts the first event of a new monthly series called Diamond Nights, named in honor of the late Buffalo performer Lance Diamond, who spent much of his musical career playing the venue then known as Elmwood Lounge. The party will feature DJs, hip hop and electronic artists both local and national. This edition includes NYC-based DJ Mario Bee, a former mainstay in the Buffalo dance music scene, along with Buffalo selectors Crop Top, Chauncey Tails, and Much Many. Music starts at 9pm. $5 cover.

Chauncey Tails Links with Ultra Doux for “Otra”

Buffalo beatmaker Chauncey Tails has been noted in the past for his strong remix game and his lush, multifaceted production on original tracks. For “Otra,” Tails unites with NYC songstress Ultra Doux for some melancholy electronic R&B. The instrumental features an array of whistles, blips and Chaunce’s signature pitch-shifted vocal samples. The longing of the beat’s sample provides the perfect undertone as Ultra Doux sings hauntingly of regret, drugs, and contemplation. Give it a listen below.

Chauncey Tails Releases New Beat Collection

Gowanda producer Chauncey Tails has become known for his typically brief tracks that feature pitch-shifted vocals and hip hop samples alongside whimsical, lush sounds that create a smooth feel that often ranges from melancholy and introspective to soulful, club-inspired beats. The artist’s latest release, Collection IV, compiles nine tracks made over the last year and provides a comprehensive look at the sound he’s been able to cultivate in that time, with engaging vocal chops, recognizable samples, and visceral percussion and bass. Leading off with, “Only You,” a bouncing, bass-heavy cut, the collection opens with high-energy, ethereal beats before leading into the more melancholy progression on the aptly titled “I Feel Like Nothing But You Are Everything.” “Squirt” features uplifting piano stabs and various warm sounds reminiscent of Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth’s tracks.Perhaps the most impressive drums and bass sounds are found on “Young Drop Top Lexus” that places a fiery hip hop[...]

Tonight: Beatmakers Showcase

As music production software has become so easily accessible, artists have accordingly taken advantage of the opportunity to create texturally complex sounds and percussion-based tracks known loosely as “beats.” Taking an atmospheric approach, the often instrumental music is hard to define, but borrows much from jazz with its’ varied instrumentation and idiosyncratic structure. Events such as Los Angeles’ Low End Theory club night have helped break through many artists like Flying Lotus, The Gaslamp Killer, Daedelus, and Nosaj Thing and bring the genre to a wider audience. Tonight, Buffalo’s Dreamland multi-purpose gallery will host a showcase of local beatmaking talent including sets from Chauncey Tails, whose fresh tracks feature pitch-shifted vocals and a warped hip hop feel, and Melissa Hasagun, with her ethereal, reflective style that blends low-key rhythms with textured soundscapes. Other producers performing include Denzel and Brother Bless. The event starts at 7:30 and donations will be accepted at[...]

Tonight: Heavy Rotation – Back to School Dance

After a successful first run for our Herd Fest this past June, we wanted to lay low for a bit. As fun as Herd was, it was an exhausting few months of planning and we wanted to take a little breather from parties and recharge our batteries. So much for that. For our next show, we thought we would resurrect our Heavy Rotation dance party series and ring in the start of the fall semester with a back to school dance throw down. Tonight at Hardware, the front and back rooms will be taken over by some of the blog’s favorite local DJs. If you missed any of the spotlights during the week, take a moment to catch up: Rick Jameson DJ Pizza Pizza TEENWOLF Chauncey Tails Music will kick off this evening at 11pm with Jameson, aka Spooky Sean of Spooky Business, while the back room will jump off[...]

Heavy Rotation: Chauncey Tails

Monday was Rick Jameson, Tuesday was DJ Pizza Pizza, yesterday was TEENWOLF, and today’s Heavy Rotation artist is Chauncey Tails. Hailing from Gowanda, the bedroom producer is well versed in producing and chopping up tracks. He has masterful remakes of songs by artists including Danny Brown and Chief Keef to his name, completely reimagining the tracks. When he sticks to instrumentals, Tails can hit you with bouncy tracks like “Tropical Topical,” knocks like “summer trap,” or hit you with a Paul McCartney sample. Closing out the night with a 2am set, Chauncey is bringing all of his vibes to Allen Street Hardware at the second edition of our Heavy Rotation. An artist with a wide array of sounds, Chauncey has a history with buffaBLOG. He was the resident DJ at our 4th Birthday Party event earlier in the year. Fluidly combining elements of trip-hop, trap, and anything that will sound good. Chauncey[...]

Just Announced: Heavy Rotation – Back To School Dance

The fall semester is quickly approaching, which means to many of us (not me, I am sadly 30), summer is nearing its inevitable end. We thought we could help ease the pain of returning to the books by finally having our second go-around of our Heavy Rotation dance party series. We debuted our first installment last fall as part of the Elmwood Village’s annual Mass Appeal event at the Pierce Arrow, and for this time around, we are taking over the back room of Hardware to showcase some of our favorite area DJs with our very own back-to-school dance. On Friday, September 12th, join us as Chauncey Tails, DJ Pizza Pizza, and Teenwolf will man the back while Rick Jameson (Spooky Sean of Spooky Business) will loosen everyone up as he gets things going in the front room. Heavy Rotation: Back To School Dance is a 21+ event. Music kicks[...]

Tonight: 716 Sike-O-Delic Party Invational

Chill party. Great bands. Sound like something you’d like to get into tonight? All this and more at Jack Topht’s Sike-O-Delic 7/16 show, held at local music, ahem, venue, the Plymouth House. Like most shows held at Plymouth House, the start time is more of a suggestion than a rule, and doors open at 9pm for this house party turned musical showcase. Local music lovelies Jack Topht & Little Cake and Chauncey Tails, along with out-of-town act Schwarz & Kilbourne, who round out the evening with a late-night DJ set, comprise most of the bill, but Gangsta Love (aka Frank Hurricane) and Wume will also be in the building with their unique sounds. Following tonight’s show, Topht and Hurricane will be hitting the road for a short tour so make sure to send them off right. Because this isn’t a traditional venue, I recommend you BYOBeverage, as well as hand sanitizer[...]

buffaBLOG 4th Birthday Party Artist Spotlight: Chauncey Tails

One of the most important factors involved in pleasing the party goers is the disc jockey. They do us a great service by pleasing our eardrums in-between acts, making sure we all keep our dancing shoes in check. This time around for our 4th bday party at Duke’s, we will have Gowanda native Chauncey Tails spinning a delightful mix before acts, during, and closing out the night. Chauncey certainly has his chops when it comes to the wide-range of influences working within his own music, not only focusing on more popular genres such as dub-step but also incorporating elements of IDM, house, and trip-hop.   Take, for instance, the songs “waitin 4 2 nite” and “Yr Girls Got a Drug Prob (Instrumental).” Chauncey layers minimally–and that may sound contradictory. He lays down an initial beat, with the former track it’s more so four on the floor, and then glitches in a sharp, witty loop that could become[...]
