Tonight: Beach House Listening Party

Local devotees of Baltimore dreampop legends Beach House fans are in for a genuine treat this evening when the fantastic people at Black Dots on Grant Street host a special listening party for the band’s latest release 7, two weeks before it arrives in stores. From 5pm to 7pm the store will be giving the hotly anticipated album a couple of spins for the assembled faithful to savor while trying to win free stuff and collectively trying to wish into reality a Buffalo date on the band’s upcoming tour, which would be wonderful to be honest. 7 manifests online and in the physical world May 11 on Sub Pop Records.

Tonight: Gladshot

Tonight NYC indie rock folk band Gladshot pass through the sonic temple that is the 9th Ward at Babeville.  With the rock musical Barcode already in the rear view mirror and a sophomore album due this October with producer John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Waxahatchee), Gladshot has expanded beyond the core of Debb Andrews and Max Blaxill to include a full band, changing everything for this up and coming act. Opening the show will be a rare performance by the always enjoyable ambient electronica salwarts  Dotsun Moon and neo soul grooves of B.A.N.K. Noise. Doors open at 7pm and tickets are $10.

Tonight: Beams

Tonight Canadian rockers Beams will pack a punch for their show at Mohawk Place. Fresh off the release of their second full-length album Teach Me to Love, the Toronto group has polished up an energy-laden sound best described as psychedelic rock mixed with indie folk and perhaps a small glimpse into the world of bluegrass—the implementation of a banjo works it ever so slightly toward that direction. Beams will be accompanied by the smooth-as-silk but heavy-hitting brand of Buffalo’s dreambeaches and the masterful cello stylings of Katie Weissman. Doors at 7pm with $7 admission. Tonight: Built to Spill

Built to Spill make their long awaited return to Buffalo tonight.  Following the departure from Warner Bros Records last year, the indie rock mainstays announced a lengthy tour of the US with the Afghan Whigs, and Buffalo is on their itinerary.  Built to Spill has not released a full LP since 2015’s Untethered Moon, so expect to hear some cuts off of that, as well as their back catalogue, jam packed with classics. The Afghan Whigs will likely play tracks off their stellar LP released last year on Sub Pop records, titled In Spades, as well as tracks from their extensive back catalogue. Doors open for the show at the Town Ballroom at 7pm and tickets are $37 at the door.  Rituals of Mine kicks things off, followed by The Afghan Whigs.

Tonight: Terror Pigeon

OK, your Monday probably sucks so far, but tonight is another story because Sugar City is hosting a show guaranteed to make it all worth while featuring life affirming art rockers Terror Pigeon and NYC  punks White Rope. Terror Pigeon, from Nashville Tennessee, put on an amazing and deeply affecting show at Dreamland (sigh) a few years back that was generous and uplifting in a humanist, inclusive way,  so that will be especially nice. Think a more hyper Dan Deacon and you’ll get the idea. White Rope will be joining the fray to play some skull crushing, modern punk for your liberating pleasure, while NYC media artist Eric Barry Drasin will be presenting/performing a Power Point opus on how to make it big in the speed metal game. Local evil hip hop artist Medusa and beloved rap malcontent Jack Topht will be rounding out the show with their nasty beats, which[...]

Tonight’s lineup features grunge rock act SMUG (fka The Naturalists), the always frantic emotive sounds of Passed Out, and Cooler’s moody indiemo repertoire. Doors are at 7pm with a $3 cover. $5 beer/shot combos. Let the weekend begin.

The gig will act as a celebration of their newly released EP What iff. For the unfamiliar, Space Cubs specialize in spellbinding vocals encased in frenetic, sonically beautiful rhythms. In The lineup for tonight’s show will also feature the assertive and dynamic vigor of Jack, the guitar-led jangly indie rock magic of Sonny Baker and the disquieted psychedelia of Bold Folly. Tonight Good In The Dark hits up Milkie’s on Elmwood with support from local grunge rock heroes Ugly Sun and Nylon Otters. Tonight: Wild Child

Tonight, Wild Child makes their return to Buffalo. The Austin-based group will be hitting Buffalo Iron Works, in a performance presented by Sunbeam Entertainment. Touring in support of their fourth full-length record Expectations, the indie-pop veterans will be touting their infectious melodies and a seven-piece band that looks more like a mini orchestral ensemble. Opening in support are Los Angeles indie folk act The Wild Reeds. The group signed with Dualtone to release their sophomore album last year, following a quick ascension in notoriety thanks in part to an appearance on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series. The group boasts a wide range of instrumental versatility and gorgeous three-part harmonies supplied by Sharon Silva, Kinsey Lee, and Mackenzie Howe. The show begins at 7pm. Tickets can be bought day of the show for $18.

Tonight: Hate Club

If you’re looking to scratch your indie rock itch tonight, look no further than Milkie’s on Elmwood where femme-fronted four-piece, Hate Club, are performing along with additional friends and local favorites. Hailing from Albany, Hate Club founded in 2016 and dropped their debut EP, No, Seriously, showcasing a slacker, basement rock sound that’s wrought with angst and heartache. Their standout tracks include “Passive // Aggressive” and “In the Shadow of Two Gunmen, Pt. 2,” both of which are refreshingly cathartic and endearingly personal. Want to rock out and be vulnerable at the same time? Join the Club for what promises to be a rambunctious musical therapy session. Adding a healthy dose of noisy, garage rock to the show will be Albany’s guitar and drum duo, Death Vacation. Expect catchy, live wire melodies under static, walkie-talkie vocals that will leave your head bopping and your ears ringing. Rounding out the night,[...]
