A Days Wait – “Tongue Tied”

Canadian dream poppers A Days Wait caught our ears with their latest offering, “Tongue Tied.” You can really hear the production from Day Wave’s Jackson Phillips – expect a relaxing bedroom pop beat, plenty of cosmic guitars, and a vocal treatment that has as much in common with 2022 as it does with mid-80s acts like Tears for Fears. About the song, A Days Wait says: “Sometimes, when it’s most important to speak up, we just can’t find the right words.” You can check out “Tongue Tied” via the Soundcloud widget below – you can also find it on Apple Music and Spotify. Shorty and the Grooves – “Anything At All”

Shorty and the Grooves combine retro sounds with modern day bedroom-pop on their latest offering, “Anything At All.” Jangly guitars and endearing vocals propel this one forward, giving us feelings of nostalgia and longing without ever feeling melodramatic. The song touches on how difficult dating has been through the pandemic – endless swipes through names and faces that become more and more of a blur as your doom scrolling takes over. Check it out below via YouTube – you can also find it on Spotify and Apple Music.

Stud Count – “Through My Window”

Sometimes you just need a little rip-roaring punk to get your day going, so we’re recommending the latest video from Philly punks Stud Count. It’s a fashion forward treatment (from director Matt Bender) that showcases the band perfectly – musically, expect buzzsaw guitars and blistering drum tempos that compliment singer Norelle Green’s vocals perfectly. About the song, Stud Count says: “We wrote the song about growing up and recognizing the things we unlearn as we mature in relationships. When I was a kid, I thought like a kid, but now that I’m grown, I think like I’m grown. There’s something precious found in the intimacy of commitment with one person, I’m blessed to have found that.” Check out the video below – if you like it, you can purchase it here.

Dog Ears – “Taurus”

If you’re into concept albums, you’re in for a treat. Standout single “Taurus” from LA/Nashville-hybrid duo Dog Ears tells the story of being stuck in traffic… Oh, and also, one of the drivers is a werewolf. It sounds goofy on paper, but in reality, “Taurus” could hang with any of the late 90s emo greats (think Mineral, American Footballs, etc.). A droning bassline, chiming harmonics, and vintage fuzz sounds are enough to please any fans of twinkly guitar-based rock. You can check it out on Bandcamp (below) or on Spotify/Apple Music. Secondhand Sound – “Colm’s Conquest”

Nashville’s Secondhand Sound are popping off with their latest single, “Colm’s Conquest.” The three-piece pump out an impressive amount of raucous, guitar-based sound. This is their first single after heading out on their headlining tour in support of their album, Best & Worst of Times, and their time becoming a road-worn band surely shows in “Conquest’s” final product… Expect circuit-bent guitar licks, passionate vocals, and big alt rock energy that would please any fan of mid-aughts garage rock glory. ASJ 3 – “Sunken Place (feat. Iverson Lewis)”

Akron, OH is lucky to have aspiring genrebender ASJ 3. Although he plays with rap, rock, and lots of other styles, “Sunken Place” (which features a verse from smooth crooner/guitarist Iverson Lewis) falls into more of a dream-pop spectrum. With plenty of vocal hooks, a driven backbeat, and dripping with emotion, “Sunken Place” finds ASJ 3 exorcizing his demons and crawling out of his proverbial lows by making this excellent tune. Song high point – the irresistible refrain of “Because you take me to a place where you know I don’t wanna go.” Check it out below – you can also find ASJ 3’s music on Spotify.

Foyer Red – “Flipper”

Last time we checked in with the playfully chaotic Foyer Red, we were nerding out about their then-latest single, the World of Warcraft inspired “Slander.” They’re back with another angular jaunt, this time, called “Flipper.” Nimble basslines, tempo changes, and singer Elana Riordan’s endearing vocals bring to mind other genre luminaries like Speedy Ortiz and Great Grandpa. There’s even a woodwind(?) instrument that makes an appearance mid-song. Delight your eardrums with this one-of-a-kind tune – we’ve uploaded it below. You can also find “Flipper” on Spotify and Apple Music.

Essential Machine – “Almost Outta Here”

Squiggly keyboards and a warm, vintage mix power this latest brew from Pittsburg’s Essential Machine. This song feels nostalgic and longing in all the best ways – ever-so-slightly forlorn vocals howl over the indie rock backbone that’s as upbeat as it is nervous. The trio just released their latest EP, Exponential Crisis, earlier this year, upon which “Outta” resides. Be sure to stick around for the tasty guitar solo. Check it out on Spotify and Apple Music too. Essential Machine · Almost Outta Here

Rum Jungle – “Upbeat Lord”

All hail the “Upbeat Lord” from the kingdom of Rum Jungle. This fancy little jingle is exactly what it sounds like; but better. Grab your shades because “Upbeat Lord” brings out the light in any setting, it’s got everything from the groovy chord progressions, the two-step drum pattern; it even has the nostalgic high pitched “ouuu’s.” “Upbeat Lord” is the second single off of Rum Jungle’s anticipated EP “Everything is Easy.” The band is taking the light with them on their Everything is Easy EP tour through Australia from June 17th to July 30th. T-O x My Friend Shawn – “BEDSHEETS”

Hear the wind and feel the breeze with T-O and My Friend Shawn on their incredible collaboration, “BEDSHEETS.” Beautiful, soothing, whisper-tone hooks followed by a trippy switch up halfway through will take you by the most pleasant surprise. The song starts and ends with the faint audio of a phone call which grants the song the symmetry factor despite its abstract layout of sections. Cloud-like production on the instrumentals garnished with damp vocals are just two factors of what made “BEDSHEETS” the perfect storm. Stream it on Apple Music and Spotify

Animal Sounds – “Miles (Jonas Song)”

Leave it to the Rochester band Animal Sounds to present us with a song that you could bellow through canyons far and wide. Built around a bouncing bassline and twinkly guitar textures, their latest, “Miles (Jonas Song),” sounds of an echoed call for salvation that we’ve heard in our heads from time to time. “It’s hard to build up a temple on miles and miles and miles of wasteland” is a line I had to take a second to digest in full, and as soon as I did, I was hit right in the feels. Feeling like doing some constructive reflecting on your past for a better future? Listen to Animal Sounds. Stream it on Apple Music and Spotify

Hussalonia – The Somewhat Surprising Re-Recording of Marsupial Garamond Hussalonia

Legend says in the year of 1997, a pop music cult was born via the Nefarico soap company and named Hussalonia. A quarter century later, Hussalonia has given us The Somewhat Surprising Re-Recording of Marsupial Garamond Hussalonia… A project that was dropped about sixteen years ago re-recorded, mixed, and mastered to the complete satisfaction of not only Nefarico & Hussalonia; but their fanbase as well. For those unfamiliar with Hussalonia, the riveting backstory and completely immersive worldbuilding are a part of the charm. In addition to their uniquely-told origins coming from a dystopian (or, surprisingly and unsettlingly current) world, their music is incredibly pristine and well-written. A truly all-around experience from this one-of-a-kind Buffalo-based artist. The album starts with the riveting “Time and Place,” in which Hussalonia bellows for the one he once loved. Conceptually continuing the tale throughout the entirety of the rest of The Somewhat Surprising Re-Recording of[...]

Flora – “Hey”

Tiptoeing in the room comes Flora as you press play on her new single, “Hey.” Such a graceful intro to bring in what’s simply the purest song of the summer. With a run time of only 1:23, you can’t help but feel forced to run it back. The simplicity within the lyrics are what give “Hey” the universal stamp of relatability. Flora was born into a household of musicians in 2007, and you can hear the 15 years of growing up with music that led up to this point. Nevertheless, it’s astonishing what she’s been able to accomplish so quickly. “Hey” is just one of the several singles leading up to her LP entitled Emerald City that is dropping 6/3/2022. Flora also gave her fans a fun music video to go along with not only “Hey” but if you pay attention towards the end, she eludes to her upcoming project.[...]

Belot – “Fake Phone Calls”

Coming down from London town, Belot is making quite the noise with “Fake Phone Calls…” A beautiful noise that is. The ever-so-mellow yet rapid fire delivery offers a wide range of dance moves to bust out. Belot’s voice is very distinct from contemporaries in the neighborhood of alternative rock, plus, who doesn’t love a good song about the mutual tension between two lovers of the past in denial of each other’s existence? I know I sure do. From the streets of London to the URL of buffaBLOG and everywhere in between; Belot is here to stay. Stream it on Apple Music and Spotify

Jenny Kern – “Feel It Again”

Jenny Kern makes that music you hear leaking from the inside of a nightclub and have no choice but to further investigate. Her latest single, “Feel it Again,” will have you scratching on the door, pleading for entry and once you finally get in, it was everything you imagined and more. The Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter sounds as if she’s singing the soundtrack of Shangri-La, with shimmering synths atop of a wild bassline. “Feel it Again” arrived on May 6th, 2022 just in time for the first normal summer in years, ushering in nostalgia that I’m sure we’re all ready to feel again.
