Incredible Change – “Montreal Is An Island”

Washington, DC based electro-pop project Incredible Change dropped their first single in over a year last month and we were quick to gobble it up. Under the surface, “Montreal Is An Island” is a driving and dance-y track about adventuring throughout with friends in small towns to big cities. It’s about appreciating the dedication of relationships while looking back on the memories one has made. Fans of Holy Ghost!’s hooks or !!!’s nu-disco vibes would like the feel on this one. Stream the track below or head on over to Incredible Change’s bandcamp page and purchase the single. You’ll need it for your next dance party / nostalgia playlist. Socks – “Forevermore”

Modesto, California-based indie rock act Socks, debuted their track via the world wide web last week and it has been stuck on repeat throughout our Labor Day weekend. “Forevermore” is all about the honey moon phase of a relationship. Nothing can go wrong and your heart is just melting constantly. Although the band is still in their infancy (playing together for only five months), the band has a forthcoming EP, expected to be out at some point in November. Fans of Mac Demarco, Summer Salt, or Pleistocene (for a local spin) will like the band’s sunny and sweet demeanor and knack for hooks. You’ll be singing along to notes you probably can’t hit, but that won’t stop you. Check it out. Super American Grows Up in New Video

One of our favorite pseudo pop bands, Super American, revealed yesterday their new single and video for “Sloppy Jazz.” The track is much what we have come to expect from lead singer Matt Cox’ holdings – literate story telling with a touch of “Wait, what? I don’t follow,” with a super hook. However, the band’s latest effort has distanced itself a  bit from the band’s earlier pop-punk leanings. There is much more of an alt-rock, indie pop vibe. Don’t worry, Super American still throws in their patented group chorus and duel vocals, which at this point they have seemed to master with the addition of Lovey’s Fred Cimatto and Pat Feeley. Shot by ex-All Blondes Go to Heaven drummer Andy DeLuca, the video cuts in and out of a high school dance-like photo opp all with a nineties tinge. “Sloppy Jazz” will be available for purchase on September 6th on Spotify and Apple[...]

Jouska – “Marcel”

Albany-based ghost rock quartet, Jouska, have slowly begun rotating into Buffalo’s local music scene. The band has an upcoming show on September 10th with Super American and Cooler in support of their yet-to-be released Topiary. “Marcel” is the lead single off of the album and a great first step into Jouska’s repertoire. “Marcel” is a highly introspective track where Jouska’s lead-singer Doug Dulgarian reflects on growing up around stifled creativity. The song comes off as a diary entry, with allusions to heartbreak and getting older. The experience is both depressing and rewarding. Life changes, and people move on. Fans of M. Ward or cryptic Brand New will enjoy Jouska’s latest. Topiary is set for release on September 6th, but you can peep “Marcel” below and catch their upcoming set at Nietzsche’s next weekend.

Bangbang – “Grabbed”

Southeast London electro-pop duo, Bangbang, released a real earworm earlier in the month with their track “Grabbed.”Bangbang is a fairly new project with its members originating from opposite sides of the world (Australia and southern England). “Grabbed” is the lead single off the pair’s self-titled EP, which you can stream over here. Under the surface, the track is about trying to take over a dream and control it, becoming fully lucid. Fans of Metronomy, Clubfeet, or NZCA Lines would be into this one. Jam out to “Grabbed” in the easily streamable link below. Gypsy & The Cat – “Tragedies Of A Love Song”

Melbourne, Australia dreamrock duo Gypsy & The Cat have an infectious new single that we can’t stop pumping on the office’s Bose Soundlink Mini™. The shoegazey track, “Tragedies Of A Love Song” is more in realm of an upbeat DIIV, The Drums, or Wild Nothing than the band’s grandiose-sounding indie pop ballads.  “Tragedies Of A Love Song” is on the duo’s new album Virtual Islands on . GOAT – “Saturdaze”

LA pop tag-team GOAT have been riding high since the release of their debut EP, Forty Love, which came out earlier this summer. The duo’s latest single “Saturdaze” is a funky retro jam about Saturday daydreamin’ bout ur #1 hunny that fans of Paula Abdul, Holy Ghost!, Great Good Fine OK, or O-Town would be into. RESIDUELS – “Gravity”

Fresh of a west coast tour with punk legends, The Buzzcocks, the Philly-based trio, RESIDUELS found time to release a new single and video combination. The track dubbed over the stock footage, “Gravity,” is entirely improvised from a studio session. Tonight: Yes Yes

A new pop-up space in the heart of Allentown is set to launch it’s inaugural showcase this evening. Dubbed The Modeling Factory, the space will host two stripped down acts, Yes Yes and Andrew Sblendorio. Sblendorio is a familiar face coming all the way from Utica. He plays double duty as part of frequent Buffalo-touring powerpop act, Comfy. His solo material is quite opposite, where he plays with atmospheric sounds as well as bleeps and bloops for fans of Brian Eno or Fourtet.  He will be joined by Alexis Aguam who will be helping with the visualization of Sblendorio’s music. Also on the bill is hyper-folk musician Mike “Yes Yes” Ersing. Yes Yes is a Buffalo-native, and has been in and out of the local scene for nearly a decade. Recently, Yes Yes was living in South Korea, working as a musician playing shows and festivals and exposing the native population to[...]

2Beeps – “Burn It Up”

Brooklyn producer 2Beeps (Matt Verzola) blends elements of house, breaks, and electro on “Burn It Up.” With melodic vocal sampling and burly 808’s, the maximalist, club-ready track places a bright 90’s rave-inspired organ melody alongside hyper-chopped vocals and layered breaks.  “Burn It Up” is off 2Beeps’ newest EP, Shake That Ass, which came out last month.  Check out this burner below.

Tonight: Sugar City’s Two Part Anniversary Party

Tonight is the resurrection anniversary of Sugar City . Well, it’s not the ACTUAL anniversary, as the group has been around since 2009, then briefly went into a hiatus while searching for a new headquarters, then started a new headquarters, then ran into some construction setbacks, and then… Point is, Sugar City has called their Niagara St. location their home base for about two years. Entering their seventh year as a collective, the group has been responsible for bringing some of the best cultural events to Buffalo via art exhibits, concerts, comedy shows, and unique programming, while maintaining a safe and welcoming atmosphere to the public, and it’s time to celebrate. The celebration is programmed in two parts. Part one is at the Sugar City hideout at 1239 Niagara St. At 6pm, doors open for the gallery. At 7pm, music begins, with performances by Basement Rat, Chevron Bloom, Glove, Jason Martin[...]

Sparklebomb Releases New Batch of Spooky Singles

Spooky synth queen, Sparklebomb, has released a new batch of brooding ambient tracks. The Buffalo-transplant / Syracuse native, Angie Conte has been performing under the moniker for close to seven years, perfecting her atmospheric and dismal sound. As per the songwriter’s repertoire, the intro to “Right Along with Me” leads into the dialogue of an old-time audio of Murder Castle, a drama inspired by serial killer / madman, H.H. Holmes. The dialogue is spliced over ominous organs, eventually introducing a drum machine. The muffled interaction drops,  leaving almost mesmerizing synth loop meanwhile building your anxiety for something to happen, which is a tease because the track fades out much like how it faded in. If there ever was a musician to score a horror film, it would be Sparklebomb. Check out “Right Along with Me” below and explore the ‘bomb’s discography here.   [soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/273362364″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

MNYNMS – “Oracle (TEEEL Remix)”

Houston-based synthpop act,  MNYNMS (pronouned ‘Many Names’), dropped an EP this morning titled Rite of Passage with an additional EP dedicated to remixes for the lead single, “Oracle.” buffaBLOG was lucky enough to get ears on one of the official remixes first. Producer extraordinaire, TEEEL, got a hold of the track “Oracle” and immediately picked the pace up. On the “Oracle” remix, TEEEL inserts his 80’s new-wave take on the  song, creating a dance-able daydream that is simply infectious. MNYNM’s dual EPs Rite of Passage and Oracle Remix are both available on iTunes. In the meantime you can stream MNYNMS’ “Oracle (TEEEL Remix)” below. Sacramento-based punk rock act Dog Party will be making a stop in Buffalo this evening at newly established east-side DIY basement, Deep Space 8. Composed of sisters Lucy and Gwendolyn, the duo is currently touring the U.S.A with fellow Sacramentans Sneeze Attack. Combining a grungy sound with poppy vocals, Dog Party’s sound is a mix between Bleached, Colleen Green, and The Ronettes. The band’s catchy ditties ultimately got them noticed by Asian Man Records (Alkaline Trio, Lemuria, Andrew Jackson Jihad), who released two of the band’s albums. Also on the bill are local punkers Trinkit. Doors are super early at 6pm so pack a dinner. Bring $5 for touring bands
