Tonight: MAGS and The Slums Double Release Show

You might want to clear up your schedule and head down to Mohawk Place tonight.  Two great local acts, MAGS and the Slums, are both dropping new projects today, and are having one big party to celebrate.  MAGS are dropping their first full length on Admitrable Traits Records, titled M.A.G.S., and the Slums are putting out their final(??) EP, titled Bloodsucker. If I were you, I’d show up early because this one will probably be packed. Buffalo’s own Humble Braggers will be kicking things off, and Albany’s Jouska will also be returning to Buffalo to perform. Doors open at the Mohawk at 8PM, and it is $12 at the door.  Admission comes with one free MAGS CD, and the first 50 people though the door get a free “mystery swag bag” via The Slums. Tailor Made Festival at Canalside (09/02/17)

This past Saturday, Fanbassador threw it’s inaugural Tailor Made Festival at Canalside.   The festival featured local acts Bill $aber and Dolo Chillin, as well as countless touring acts, including Smokepurpp, Waka Flocka Flame, Keys N Krates, DVBBS, 2 Chainz, and Travis Scott.  Even with the unfortunate cancellation of one act, PNB Rock, as well as a temporary loss of power on stage, stellar sets from all of the acts made the festival one of the more memorable shows at Canalside this year.  Check out some photos from the day below, shot by blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor. Green Day at Darien Lake PAC (08/26/17)

Pop punk fans and radio listeners alike came out in droves to the Green Day show at Darien Lake this past Saturday.  The band’s explosive show featured songs spanning their entire career as a band, and they did not disappoint.  There was never a dull moment from start to finish, kicking the show off with their 2009 hit, “Know Your Enemy,” and closing their 26 song set with an acoustic performance of “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life).”  They also didn’t skip out on their signature live show antics, pulling multiple young fans out of the crowd to perform parts of songs, having them stage dive into the crowd afterward.  The show was kicked off with a great set by British indie act, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and while it seemed like an odd pairing at first, the four piece did a great job of warming up the crowd. Tonight: Rick Maguire from Pile

Head down to Sugar City tonight to catch a short and sweet showcase featuring some stellar songwriters. Over the years, Rick Maguire has made numerous stops in Buffalo, mainly with his main project, Pile. While Rick is the front man of Pile, he has also been writing solo tracks since the late 2000’s, around the time when Pile formed. Tonight would be a great night to catch the amazing songwriter perform some of the more low key Pile tracks, along with some of his deep solo cuts. New Hampshire indie folk act, Footings, are also featured on the bill as well. Fresh off of the release of a fantastic new LP, the three piece’s set is not to be missed. The show will be opened with two sets from two Buffalo artists, David Adamczyk, a violinist/composer, along with folk songstress Laura Buckley. The show kicks off at Sugar City at 7pm, and its $7[...]

Head down to Mohawk Place tonight to make your Tuesday night a fun one, as New Swears will be rolling down all the way from Ottawa to grace us with their presence. Doors are set to open for the show at 8pm, and there is an $8 cover at the door.  This is one you won’t want to miss.

Tonight: Tegan and Sara

Tegan and Sara are undeniably one of the most important modern indie pop bands. Their influence spans multiple genres and have effected innumerable bands, and you’ve got a chance to see them live tonight at the Town Ballroom.  While they are technically still on tour in support of their latest album, Love You To Death, the duo is gearing up for a string of shows celebrating the ten year anniversary of the legendary record, The Con, so I’m sure you’ll be hearing multiple tracks off of that record, as well as many tracks spanning their entire catalog. Opening the show will be the incredible Japanese Breakfast, and if you caught their recent show at Mohawk Place, you know their set is not to be missed. Their new LP, Soft Sounds From Another Planet, just came out on Dead Oceans, and it is killer from front to back. Doors open at the[...]

Tonight: The New Pornographers

Well, I think it’s safe to say that tonight is one of the busiest nights for shows of the summer.  One option to make your Tuesday a special one is a rare appearance from Canadian indie vets, The New Pornographers.   On tour for their new album that dropped earlier this year, titled Whiteout Conditions, the legacy act is rolling through Buffalo with a stellar opener as well.  While you should expect to hear some cuts off of the new album, you’re sure to hear a good amount from their extensive, hit filled back catalog as well. The thing that makes this lineup so stacked is the touring opener for the show, Cloud Nothings.  While they have played in Buffalo a few times over the past couple years, the noisy indie outfit still brings the heat every show.  Doors open for the show at 7pm, and tickets are available at[...]

Pinegrove @ the Blue Stage, 5:15pm While I’m really upset about the overlap with RIDE, I’m gonna have to pick Pinegrove. Over the past years, this bands popularity level has blasted off, due to their newest LP, Cardinal. They have a wildly unique sound, something really special.[...]
