Tonight: Cross Faded Tour f/ World’s Fair & Two-9

Get all the way turnt up tonight at Waiting Room with a fresh lineup of hip hop, brought to you by the good people at After Dark Entertainment. World’s Fair & Two-9 touch down in the Queen City for their Cross Faded tour, bringing their blend of alternative hip hop to the stage, along with Network, Bill $aber, Blair Copeland, and Devon Charles. This all ages show (if you’re under 16, bring a grown-up…this would be an excellent early Father’s Day present for the cool dad in your life) is $15 at the door, and doors open at 7. Pro tip: regardless of your age, don’t be a yung thug. There is a little to zero tolerance policy for fuckery at WR, and you will be asked to leave.

Looking for a place to get spooky this Friday the 13th?  Weather permitting, the patio at Ohm Ultralounge is the place to be. The cash-only bar and lounge opens its’ doors at 8pm for a night of local hip hop under the stars (and full moon). For just $5, you get a full bill of music, featuring Kentucky transplant and Buffalover Chuckie Campbell, Dead Trash Mob, and G.S. + Indie Visuals. The Indie Visuals (say that three times fast) crew is a hip hop collective based out of Buffalo, and promotes all forms of hip hop artistry, from graffiti and breaking to beat-making. Record label Dead Trash Mob also reps the 716, and will have artists from the label performing tonight. This 21+ show promises to be full of good vibes, great music, and beautiful people (as long as you’re there).

Tonight: Radarada

Get on that ra ra shit tonight with the release of Radarada’s debut EP, the aptly titled First Edition. Featuring fellow Buffalo artists Jack Topht and Dr. Ooo, the album is a compilation of what happens when people stop being polite and start getting weird. The all ages show opens it’s doors at 9pm, and is being hosted at one of Buffalo’s best new(ish) music venues, Buffalo Iron Works. Tix are five duckets, but being surrounded by so many yung thugs at an all ages show is kind of priceless, so this is easily the best $5 you’ll spend all weekend. Everyone in attendance will also get a ticket to the show’s afterparty, being held at a semi-undisclosed location (a house on the west side, and the address is on the ticket) and promises to have “free drinks, music bumpin, and good times.” In the words of Robert Sylvester Kelly:[...]

Tonight: Being Beastie, Volume 2

Buffalo boys and producer-promoters Damon Bodine and Tony Caferro team up once again to promote cancer awareness through music in their widely well-received benefit series. Being Beastie, a karaoke-style event held at Duke’s, features participants rapping to Beastie tracks while being backed up by local band Rhubarb. Bodine, whose Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer is in remission, devotes his time to promoting cancer awareness and has been promoting this event for six years. After Adam Yauch aka MCA, lost his battle with a rare form of salivary gland cancer in 2012, Bodine dedicated this event to the memory of the hip hop icon. 100% of the proceeds of this donation-based event go to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the world’s largest voluntary blood cancer research organization. The suggested donation is $5, but there is no limit on how much you can donate, so bring cash and courage (if you plan on rapping). Doors[...]

In the words of M-E-T-H-O-D Man: “it ain’t nothing like hip-hop music/you like it ’cause you choose it/most dj’s won’t refuse it/a lot of sucka MC’s misuse it.” One of those DJs is Buffalo’s own LoPro, who plays classic hip hop on a classic format: records. Every Wednesday night at Duke’s, he spins old school hip hop while the bartenders serve up $1 beer and $2.50 shot specials. Bonus points for having late-night kitchen hours and the best eggplant wings in town since Off the Wall (RIP). This weekly event starts at 10 and goes til 4, and there’s no cover. If you’re looking for a place to talk proud and get plowed, this is it.

Chuckie Campbell Reps The 716 In “Synesthesia” Video

Southern transplant Chuckie Campbell showcases the city like a lifelong native in the Buffalo in black and white is anything but video for “Synesthesia.” Synesthesia, (I borrowed this from Wiki) is a neurological phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. I know, right? Basically, it’s like if you look at a letter, you’ll see a color and different letters have different colors. This is one of the more common occurrences, but overall one sense is linked to another in some undefinable way, as the experience varies from synesthete to synesthete. Yes, that’s what they are called. The track, which comes from his critically acclaimed album, More Die of Heartbreak, is deeply personal and lyrically hard-hitting in an almost soft-spoken way. Girl Talk and Freeway f/ Waka Flocka Flame: “Tolerated”

Ok, so technically the song and video came out on Monday, but I finally stopped shaking with excitement over it to have steady enough fingers to type about it today. Mind you, it’s not the best thing I’ve heard this week, but it is my most anticipated. The first teaser from the Broken Ankles EP that drops next week, this track will hold you over until April 8th when the full-length video and album are released. Full disclosure: I’m borderline obsessed with Girl Talk. Haters gon hate, but I think his baggy sweats/no shirt/dope hat and/or headband steez at shows is superfly. The Pittsburgh native has been churning out mixtapes for years, sampling everyone from Jay-Z to Bruce Springsteen on well-produced and well-acclaimed albums that are the lazy man’s dj at parties. Waka Flocka Flame – Re-up Mixtape

Waka Flocka goes hard in the motherfuckin tape on his new mix, Re-Up, an 11 track compilation with solid production and clever collaborations. His much-anticipated album, Flockaveli 2, doesn’t drop til later this year, and this mix will carry you through til it’s release. Fellow Atlanta rapper Young Scooter is featured on the 808 Mafia produced second track, “Cook Jug,” and has one of the catchier hooks on the mix. Both “Lottery” and “Ain’t No Problems” have that signature Waka sound, and the latter has verses from oddly charismatic ATL rapper Young Thug and Judo. “Word to the Wise,” an impeccably produced track by up and coming rapper-turned-producer Metro Boomin, is one of the strongest on the tape, and it’s worth mentioning that Metro is only 19 years old.
