Tonight: Night Slaves

Inventive industrial act Night Slaves will be celebrating the release of their newest LP THREE AND A HALF with a show tonight at Revolution Gallery. Anchored by core members David Kane and John Toohil, the group has recently expanded to include Lucy Bell, Ryan McMullen, and Kelly Mourdant. Their sound is an amalgam of 60s garage rock, psychedelic Brit-pop, darkcore, and just a smattering of sardonic post-punk sensibility. While previous releases, such as 2018’s Night Slaves III, have leaned more heavily towards the darker industrial side, their new album finds the group embracing a new sound. Their new single “ABSOLUTE” is a deeply infectious dance track, much in the spirit of “HandClap” by Fitz and the Tantrums. It will be interesting to see the direction this album takes, but I for one am excited. Providing support will be psych-chamber pop group Parade Chic, and lo-fi dream pop artist Ex-Pat. Tonight: Bearhunter

Tonight Milkie’s on Elmwood hosts an intense night of indie rock featuring the newly rejuvenated Bearhunter, along with Rochester’s The Young Couples and local art rock darlings Parade Chic. After resurfacing for Herd Fest 2017 this summer, the funky and melodic trio have been hard at work on their first release in four years, so be ready to maybe hear some new tunes, while The Young Couples will be bringing their hella catchy Vampire Weekend infused garage rock to town.  Doors are at 9pm and cover is $5.

Tonight: The Leones

Tonight Batavia based psych rockers The Leones celebrate the release of their latest release, Songs From The Canyon at the Ninth Ward at Babeville with the busy as hell Humble Braggers and art rock outfit Parade Chic. Fans of vintage synths, spacious jams, and songs that conjure sensations of a beating sun over the low desert and yearning freedom won’t want to miss this one. Doors are at 8pm and cover is $5. Tonight: Baio

While we wait patiently for the next offering from Vampire Weekend, their bass player Chris Baio (performing under the stage name Baio) is testing the waters of a solo career. For fans of the indie-rock group, his stop at the Waiting Room tonight is not to be missed. 2015 saw the release of Baio’s solid debut solo record The Names, featuring the catchy and danceable lead single “Sister of Pearl.” The album sees him stepping away from the familiarity of Vampire Weekend, finding his own unique voice and a sound that is all his own. Joining the lineup will be a pair of local Buffalo bands. Energetic indie-rockers M.A.G.S. and  kicking off the night is indie-pop act Parade Chic. For those hoping to score a last minute ticket, the show unfortunately is sold out. For everyone lucky enough to grab one, doors are at 7pm at the Waiting Room.

Parade Chic – One And Only Secret Dream

One of the most exciting developments for Buffalo’s music scene has been the emergence of progressive and vibrant art spaces like Sugar City and Dreamland as music venues. These spaces are not only excellent for shows, intimate and immediate; they bring the city’s art and music scenes together in a search for mutual liberation and survival, and foster a more open ethos for both artist and audience that makes bands like Parade Chic, whose debut One And Only Secret dropped on Bandcamp last week, more possible. Our Album of the Week, One And Only Secret Dream finds the previously lo-fi art rockers embracing a richer, almost chamber pop sound that’s preserves the Belle and Sebastian vibe while introducing an early of Montreal influence. Colin Griffin’s vulnerable and searching voice guides the whole effort, with standout cuts like the surging yet delicate “The Birds,” the simultaneously minimalist yet soaring melancholic title track, and[...]

Tonight: Friendship

If punk by way of Brooklyn or Japan isn’t your thing tonight, head down to Dreamland on this unusually busy Wednesday night for a set from Philadelphia’s Friendship. Friendship has a Weakerthans meets Bonnie Prince Billy with a touch of Magnetic Fields vibe and could easily be an alt-country counterpart to Buffalo slackers Difficult Night. The group’s new album You’re Going to Have to Trust Me was released this past weekend on New Hampshire label Burst & Bloom Records. You can give it a spine here. Joining Friendship will be fellow Philly, well, friend Abi Remold. The folk artist has a Sharon Van Etten thing going on and should be a fine compliment to Friendship’s laid back tawng. Buffalo’s own chamber pop six piece Parade Chic will open the show. Music begins this evening at 8pm with a $5 suggested donation to cover the touring acts.

Parade Chic Shares First Single from One and Only Secret Dream

Local chamber pop outfit Parade Chic shared the lead single from the group’s upcoming debut LP, One and Only Secret Dream, earlier this morning. Titled “New Lines,” the neo-psych number features a bouncy, retro pop melody along with new wavey keys and gentle yet nervy guitars backing Colin Griffin’s lead vocals (think Stuart Murdoch meets Alex Berkley). Fans of Belle and Sebastian, the cassette culture movement, and even Ariel Pink should give a song a spin. Keep an eye out for One and Only Secret Dream sometime this fall (we think), and in the mean time, listen to “New Lines” below. New Lines by Parade Chic

Tonight: Parade Chic

Tonight, the night before America’s unofficial/official faux national holiday, the Studio at the Waiting Room will be hosting a hot lineup featuring some of Western New York’s most compelling bands: futuristic lo-fi rockers Parade Chic, dream pop New Wavers Smarthouse, SHEDS, the pride of Lancaster, and the Buffalo via Rochester weirdness of Unisex. $8 gets you into this all ages show, which starts early by Buffalo standards with doors at 6:30pm, making this ideal for getting Super Bowl LXVVI Eve (it’s official) started right.

Tonight: You Me & Apollo

After Dark Entertainment is serving up a solid variety of musical talent at The Waiting Room tonight. Fresh off the May release of their debut full-length Sweet Honey, Colorado-based headliners You Me & Apollo (think Alabama Shakes) will bring their soulful brand of blues rock to the Buffalo venue, joined by newish lo-fi locals Parade Chic and folksy fusioneers Hokan & Friends of the Sun, also from Buffalo. With such a diverse (and notably ampersand-heavy) lineup, there should be a little something for everyone tonight.  Look alive! Doors are at 7pm with a $12 cover $10 presale (*cough* ask one of the local bands *cough*)
