Farmertan – “Driveway (meet me)”

Indie rock veterans Farmertan released their new track “Driveway (meet me)” last last month and it’s a welcome return from the trio. Formed in Connecticut in the early 90s,  Farmertan has been a staple to the New England scene for decades, sharing the stage with notably Archers of Loaf, Conner Oberst, and Apples in Stereo. “Driveway (meet me)” is the emerging single from the band’s new album Captains of Industry. The track has a bit of a Les Savy Fav vintage shimmer to it and would blend in nicely with the late 90s college radio waves. airhockey – “you don’t mind”

Newcomers airhockey packed a punch with their debut single “You Don’t Mind,” released last week. The quartet’s dreamy new single has math-y guitars, a driving beat, and dreamy vocals, making this a dream pop must-have for your January 2019 playlists. Fans of Wild Nothing, DIIV, or Beach Fossils would enjoy the gentle haze of airhockey. Be on the lookout for future material from the band, as their debut track is quite promising.

Young & Sick – “Bitter End”

Multi-media artist Young & Sick, the moniker for Nick van Hofwegen released his first single  of 2019 “Bitter End.” Featured on the upcoming EP due out this spring, “Bitter End”will be released via Neon Gold Records / B3SCI Records. The electro musician’s new track is all about having a more thorough perception on life, with hindsight being 20/20. Fans of Hercules Love Affair, The Knocks, or hyper Passion Pit would enjoy Young & Sick’s latest, so listen below if you check those boxes.

Sinking – “Ghost”

Western Massachusetts-based emo/indie rock hybrid Sinking released the video for their single “Ghost” at the end of 2018. The single “Ghost” is the first single off the quartet’s new album Nightmare, which was released roughly two months ago. It has an early 2000s emo twinkle in the lyrics, reminiscent of buzzing New Jersey act Whiner. Sunny Day Real Estate, or Mineral. It’s an impressive combination which is making us excited to hear the full length. Check out “Ghost” below and be on the lookout for future material from the band over on their bandcamp.

Raised on TV – “Smog City”

Los Angeles-based indie trio Raised on TV released the second single off their new album, Season 2. The new single, “Smog City” was recorded at Foo Fighter Dave Grohl’s famed studio, Studio 606. Raised on TV’s sound is reminiscent of Broken Social Scene meets Death Cab for Cutie. Lyrically, the band’s song is all about grinding for Lyft in the big city and being a fly on the wall with strangers from all over the place. The band’s full length is available on all digital platforms but in the meantime enjoy “Smog City” below.

COULOU – “Mr. Nobody”

Talented multi-instrumentalist COULOU dropped his latest single “Mr. Nobody” late in 2018 and it’s making its mark into 2018. The song is about not being into someone and them not really being into you either, yet somehow chasing each other back and forth. The song also features the soulful KHAY coming in at about 1:45. COULOU plays all the instrumentals on this in addition to singing (including the killer New Orleans-esque horns towards the end), making him one of the most talented artists we’ve heard in a while. Nylon Otters Drop New EP, Single

Rising Buffalo-based grunge revivalists, Nylon Otters, started 2019 off with a bang by releasing a brand new four song EP titled Goldilocks. The first song off the album and title track “Goldilocks” is the lead single from the album. Lead singer Logan Ross almost effortlessly channels the gravelly howl of Kurt Cobain in the trio’s latest track. The band has mastered a slacker grunge feel, meshing two of the buzziest sounds of the past couple years. Be on the lookout for Nylon Otters in the area, as they are a major go-to bands for local bills and in the meantime enjoy Goldilocks in its entirity over on bandcamp. Goldilocks by Nylon Otters

Sunnbrella – “Nick Hornby”

Sunnbrella delighted out inbox with their new music video for their latest single “Nick Hornby.” With a driving drumbeat, the shoegaze act’s new jam is sprinkled with melancholy. The video, directed by Filippo Locatelli, takes place mid-makeover, with lyrics all about trying to figure life out/growing as an individual. Check the video out below and try not to move. I dare you.

General Crush – “Big Man”

General Crush, aka the brainchild of songwriter/producer Ray Ward, delivered a true gem into our inbox with his live session recording of “Big Man.” Based out of Boston, the one-man-band released a live set recording of his track “Big Man,” which shows similar shades to Pedro the Lion or Say Hi. The lyrics are delivered incredible sullen from Ward, with lyrics about a big man taking someone down. I’m sure there are some more buried themes within this, but that’s what we are gathering after an afternoon jamming to this. Check it out.

Highschool Jacob – “Can’t Get Enough”

Highschool Jacob’s latest track “Can’t Get Enough” starts out slowly accentuated by meek vocals, but don’t let that fool you. This single turns into the perfect smokey dance party track early on. At :45 on this electropop track, it goes down with an almost Daft Punk / Boys Noize feel. Get lost in the French disco vibes on this one, as it’s super easy to put on repeat.

Dream Talk – “Get Out”

Last month, Dream Talk delivered a funk-y single called “Get Out” that has become quite the earworm. Fans of Joywave, Penguin Prison, or MGMT would be a fan of this nu-pop anthem. It’s super accessible with the driving rhythm section and dancing synths, check it out below.

Møme – “Sunday”

in December, French producer Møme dropped his latest single “Sunday,” and it iss ideal for a smokey dance floor at about two in the morning. Featuring LA’s Goldwash, it’s easy to get lost in this hazy nu-disco track. Fans of Hot Chip or Royksopp would be keen on this track. The single is from the musician’s new album Møment II, out now via Casablanca Records. Check out the single below, it’s a good one.

Ambein Sloth – “So Long Ago”

Ambein Sloth’s driving new single “So Long Ago” is about losing someone but not even knowing if you care.  The project is a concept whirled up by Chicago-based musician and a cartoonist with an affinity for making sloth-based comics. The single seems to be the first for the partnership, but being able to pack this hard of a punch on their first release, I’m sure we will be hearing more from the young project.

Purest – “Waste My Days”

Sheffield shoegazers Purest released the title track of their new EP Waste My Days in the end of 2018, but that’s not stopping us from looping it on repeat. The band’s 2018 was quite the whirlwind, performing a slew of dates all summer which included opening slots for Echo and the Bunnymen and The Libertines. “Waste My Days” is the culmination of the band’s efforts for the past year. The track is all about making your way and finding your own in the world. Check it out below.

Pure Mids – “Don’t Quit”

Southern California’s Pure Mids are a band we always come back to. They make it awfully hard to quit with their accessible indie pop bangers that seem to land every quarter. Combine a driving beat, 80s synths, with a pleasant bounce and you have their newest single “Don’t Quit.” Pure Mids have the ability to land an earworm almost effortlessly (although I’m sure there is a LOT of effort behind this).
