Tonight: The Regrettes

Up-and-coming California buzz band The Regrettes pass through the City of Good Neighbors tonight at The Leopard Lounge with fellow Californians Hot Flash Heat Wave. The Regrettes, fronted by the irrepressible and excellently named Lydia Night, came up out of the LA punk scene full of righteous fury, brutal honesty, and a sharp ear for the sweet 60’s sounds that inform the very best surf punk (Bikini Kill, Best Coast), as showcased on their terrific 2017 debut Feel Your Feelings, Fool! Their current single “I Dare You” however is tantalizingly pure post punk, with tight grooves for dancing and hooks that dig deep while keeping all the take no prisoners attitude that makes this band so damn refreshing and potentially worth riding and dying for. Bay Area rockers Hot Flash Heat Wave, whose own Cali punk stylings have begun to pleasantly branch out into Kevin Parker influenced smooth psychedelia, will be[...]

Tonight: Frankie Rose

Indie rock veteran Frankie Rose will be swinging through Buffalo tonight. Performing at the Town Ballroom’s intimate Leopard Lounge space, Rose is coming off the release of her fourth full length solo record, Cage Tropical. Having been on the scene for years, touring with bands like Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls, and Beverly, she is now carving out her own sound as a solo artist. Inspired by both retro synth pop-rock and the silly eeriness of classic sci-fi films, her music is awash in shimmering, atmospheric and almost paranormal tones. Opening the show is Philly-based shoegaze rock group Suburban Living. Starting out as a solo project of Virginia musician Wesley Bunch, the group expanded into a 4-piece over the course of a five year period. Their sophomore record Almost Paradise was released last year through 6131 Records. Doors open at 7pm, with music starting around 8pm. Tickets are[...]

Tonight: Prinze George

No doubt about it, this Maryland trio has a palatial sound. Prinze George‘s music is fetching  and atmospheric, but the dreamlike vocals expand their sound to a level of surreal consciousness — the emotional weight to it is what sucks you in. The band’s latest release, Illiterate Synth Pop, seems very much the opposite of its descriptor. It’s thoughtful, digestible and magnetic in disposition. Catch Prinze George tonight at the Leopard Lounge at Town Ballroom. Find more information here. Tonight: The Slums

After 2 years of anticipation, we’re finally here, all the hype, all the teases of new material from this passionately loved artist who wears their heart on their sleeve and reps their city to the death; I am of course talking about the release of, Sorry by The Slums. Unless you’ve been completely oblivious to the local music scene, it’s been kind of hard to miss the local shout-rockers in our fair city, playing barn-burner of a show after barn-burner of a show. But tonight’s show is one of proper celebration, as the band marks the release of their buffaBLOG-approved, debut album. The Slums will be playing most (if not all) the tunes off their debut with I’m sure some room for old singles as well. The band’s trademark raw, aggressive, and wildly emotive punk sound, lends itself especially to the live setting, and if you’re like me, I know[...]

Tonight: New Madrid

One of the exciting thing about Town Ballroom’s recent Leopard Lounge shows is that it has provided the perfect venue for some of indie rock’s rising stars or best kept secrets. The latter is especially true of tonight’s guest, New Madrid. It’s almost difficult to describe the sound of these Athens-based indie rockers because they almost seem to pull inspiration from every major era of indie rock and do so with a sound that’s effortless and immediate. Given their hometown, it’s maybe too easy to label that as “College Rock” but if any band in recent memory deserves that label it’s them. Yet the band also seem to carry with them the lazy slacker rock vibes of the early 90s as much as the wandering experimental rock of the early 2000s. New Madrid sounds immediately familiar but like no one specifically, which in itself is an incredible feat. The band arrives[...]

Tonight: SWMRS

Echoing Oakland act, SWMRS, will be in town tonight at the newly christened Leopard Lounge at Town Ballroom. SWMRS’ sound is a twist of Tokyo Police Club pop lyrics with the electrifying rock riffs of the Wombats, SWMRS will give you a great mix of energetic slacker-rock will light up the dance floor. Their songs are anthemic with heavy-hitting choruses that fans of Skaters, Free Energy, or Buffalo’s very own Made Violent would appreciate. Tickets are $12 and doors open at 7pm
