Tonight: Honey COMA

Honey COMA is hosting an evening of what promises to be very emotional music tonight. The trio specializes in dark, brooding indie rock with painfully introspective lyrics – case in point, debut EP 7 Songs. Joining them tonight are alt-punk, queer-core trio Tina Panic Noise and a performance from San Antōn (aka Tony Flaminio of Lemuria, Failures’ Union, and Mallwalkers fame). Tonight’s show is at Mohawk Place – doors are at 8pm. Bring $5. 7 Songs by honey COMA

Tonight: Queer Kevin

Ohio “shoegayzers” Queer Kevin  are swinging through Buffalo tonight, bringing their simmering indie rock vibes and haunting melodies in tow. They’re bringing Northampton punks Dump Him along for the ride, in what promises to be a night of beautiful punk-esque noise. Local support tonight comes from the ever-sad indie rockers in honey COMA and a slow, ambient set from scene vet Kay Stuitje. Tonight’s show is a very affordable $5. Be at Sugar City at 7pm – music starts at 7:30pm. A friendly reminder that Sugar City is a drug and alcohol free, all-ages venue. all dykes go to heaven (demo) by Queer Kevin

Tonight: Dentist

Fuzzy, buzzing indie pop act Dentist will be visiting Buffalo tonight. Their unique, surf-punk-tinged, indie-pop aesthetic is driven by the ethereal vocals of singer Emily Bornemann, coupled with smart drums and California-esque guitar crunch. Having recently been named by SXSW as one of “2018’s top 10 bands,” they’ve just released their third LP, Night Swimming, earlier this year. Joining them are the poppy punky goodness of Chicago act Jupiter Styles and New Orleans act Treadles, and Buffalo’s very own honey COMA. Tonight’s show is at 9pm at Electric Avenue. Bring $5 for admission. Night Swimming by Dentist

Tonight: Bad Bad Hats

9th Ward at Babeville has an excellent excuse for local indie rock fans to get out of the house on a Sunday night when they host Bad Bad Hats and blog favorites Honey Coma. Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, land of Prince Rogers Nelson, Husker Du, and The Replacements, Bad Bad Hats rock an earnest and classic indie sound that’s soulfully honest and catchy as hell, propelled by the wise, crystalline power of frontwoman/guitarist Kerry Alexander and the tight rhythm section of Chris Hoge and Noah Boswell. Lovely local slowcore sad rockers Honey Coma open the show with their life enhancing beautiful melancholy, and all this sweetness can be yours for $12 at the door, which opens at 7pm.

Cooler at Mohawk Place (1/12/18)

Despite the frigid winter storm raging outside that evening, Mohawk Place was absolutely brimming with excitement for Cooler’s EP Release Show on January 12th. Playing to a hometown crowd of their friends, family, and peers, Cooler opened their set with stripped-down renditions of fan favorites, before premiering new material from their latest Admirable Traits release, Buried EP, the band’s first as a trio. By dialing down the “phantom phuzz” that characterized their earlier music, Cooler emphasized the heartfelt songwriting, cathartic hooks, and taut musicianship that forms the essential core of their sound, played onstage with raging intensity and emotional conviction. The band were supported that evening by Honey COMA’s spartan confessionals, Post Prom’s disaffected anthems, and Into the Wake’s volcanic nightmares. Honey COMA Post Prom Into the Wake Cooler

Tonight: Cooler EP Release Show

With their high-level energy and expertly crafted melodies at the ready, alternative rock three-piece Cooler will be performing tonight to a hometown crowd at Buffalo’s historic venue Mohawk Place on 47 Mohawk St., heralding in the release of the band’s new EP entitled Buried. Over the course of the show’s suspected five-hour runtime, Cooler will be joined by fellow Buffalo-based rock acts Post Prom, Into the Wake and Honey COMA. The show starts at 8 p.m. It will allow entry for those 18 or above with proper identification and parental guidance if younger. The cover is $10, a cost that includes a copy of Cooler’s new cassette, which includes a digital download. Check out the eponymous single off the trio’s new release below:

War War War

Tonight: War War War

Electric Avenue is the spot to be tonight as War War War takes the stage. On tour from Flint, Michigan, War War War plays with a delicate loudness. Their sweeping melodies and touch of Americana make them the perfect soundtrack to a cold Friday night. Also playing on the bill are late 90s emo raconteurs, Honey COMA, Velvet Bethany, and indie rockers, Passed Out. Music at 8pm. $5 for the door. I Saw An Angel, I Buried Its Body by War War War

Tonight: Strawberry Runners

Buffalo’s Sugar City is the host to a jam packed line up full of folk pop acts, both touring and local. Heave, Joseph Meyers, and Honey Coma will be repping Buffalo, ranging in genre from experimental folk to stripped down post rock. Acoustic folk act Ben Morey will also be making a trip down the 90 from Rochester, and Strawberry Runners will also be rolling out. A collaborative effort spanning Brooklyn, Denver, and Philly, the tender pop act will be stopping in Buffalo in support of the new five song EP, titled In The Garden, In The Night. Doors open for the show at 6pm, and while there is no cost listed on the event page, I would bring somewhere from 5-10 dollars for the touring band. Sugar City is an all ages alcohol / drug free space located at 1239 Niagara street, across the street from the Resurgence Brewing Company.

chevronbloom milkies

Tonight: Chevron Bloom

Chevron Bloom are a three piece band that’s been blazing through the scene recently. Tonight they are bringing their wide open sound to Milkie’s on Elmwood. Their sound puts together the more ethereal elements of psych and shoegaze with a harder alt/indie rock edge. Playing alongside Chevron Bloom on this stacked bill are the emotive slowcore band, Honey COMA, who always bring it with their strong songwriting and lastly a debut from Little Summer, a new act featuring members of the Mallwalkers, Unwelcome Guests, and Slow Mutants. Doors are at 8pm, $5 at the door. EP by Chevron Bloom

Tonight: The Coathangers

Tonight, Atlanta punk rockers The Coathangers will be hitting up The Tralf. Joining the Suicide Squeeze Records group will be Buffalo native’s honey COMA. Together, it should make for an evening of heavy hitting hard rock. The Coathangers are known for having an irreverent playfulness to their songwriting. They combine that with a classic minimalist garage punk sound, reminiscent of some of the earliest female punk acts, while still having a foot in the modern indie sphere. The group is coming off the release of their 2016 full length Nosebleed Weekend, which landed on Paste Magazine’s 50 Best Albums of 2016 year end list. Openers honey COMA are a local supergroup, comprised of Mallwalkers’ Norelle Christiani, Humble Braggers’ Tom Burtless and Bryan Johnson & the Family’s Bryan Johnson. The collaboration describes themselves as slowcore sad rockers, and it fits. Their debut release 7 Songs features a blend of alt emo[...]

Tonight: The Slums

Put out a single, play a show… That’s exactly what Buffalo’s dirtiest, grimiest, and all-around badass-iest band The Slums are doing tonight. In an effort to flip our new president a gigantic bird, they’ve decided to donate all the money raised by tonight’s gig to Planned Parenthood. Joining The Slums in their middle-finger salute are the raucous indie surf punx in Slowcooker and the emotionally heavy male/female dynamics of honey COMA. ICYMI, check out “KREB” below so you can sing along. Later on, come hang out and let your middle fingers fly at the Modeling Factory at 7pm… Ask a friend for the address.

Tonight: Candy Ambulance

Well, you made it through Monday.  What better way to celebrate than with a super stacked Tuesday night gig?  Grunge-y alt rock act Candy Ambulance from Saratoga Springs will be making the trek to Dreamland in Buffalo tonight, playing along side some key Buffalo acts.  Tight indie-emo band,Passed Out, will be kicking the show off, with raucous rock act, M.A.G.S., and  new Buffalo slowcore act Honey Coma closing out. The Facebook event has no price for the show listed, but bring at least 5 bucks for the touring band to be safe.  Things are set to kick off at 8pm and will be over by 11pm.

honey COMA – 7 Songs

With such an active, buzzing music scene, collaboration between Buffalo’s local artists is practically unavoidable. Once you take into account the sheer amount of comradery, diversity, and artistry within our fine city, you’re left with nothing but unbridled potential. With that said, it should come as no surprise that Buffalo’s latest local supergroup—honey COMA—has hit the ground full-sprint with their debut effort 7 Songs. Recorded and mixed by Elliott Douglas at Old Bear Studios and mastered by Paul Besch at Quiet Country Audo, honey COMA’s 7 Songs is our Album of the Week. Safe to say I didn’t expect for a second that the sum of equal parts Norelle Christiani (Mallwalkers), Bryan Johnson (Bryan Johnson & Family), and Tom Burtless (Humble Braggers) would end up being a dreary blend of postrock, tense emo-alternative, and slowcore. I mean, take Mallwalkers—an unapologetically raucous dance punk group, toss in BryJo’s fun beach pop[...]

Tonight: Slowshine

Those Little Baltimore rascals are up to it again! This time they’re bringing Albany shoegazers Slowshine to town for what promises to be an extremely sad evening full of delightfully downtrodden music. Also playing tonight are Little Baltimore in-house sad boys Holland Purchase, and their in-house discordant brethren in Yellow House. Rounding out the evening is male/female sobcore act Honey Coma. Emos everywhere need to ask a punk where Little Baltimore is. Show up at 8 if you’re feeling froggy – music will be done by 12 so y’all should plan to party after. Brush up on your Little Baltimore etiquette – details here.
