Canetis – Chasing Moonlight

Like the first leaves gliding through the wind in fall, the first winter snow, and that first 80 degree week in summer, Canetis is back and it’s the season of Chasing Moonlight.  The five Buffalo head bangers hardly touch the ground on their latest five piece EP. Just short of twenty minutes, Chasing Moonlight is a perfect album for the scenic route to wherever you’re going. However, each song definitely has a time and a place it’d be fully understood. Like “Daydreamer,” which would hit the hardest on that ride home from the function where you held back what you really wanted to say or do. The following track “Whenever” brings me to a blissful field of comfort in misfortunes. The first words of the opening track “Reconsider,” “Chasing Moonlight, lost since 94,” really help describe what that represented in the eyes of Canetis; or at least the fact that[...]

Tonight: The Hollywood Motel

Tonight at Nietzsche’s marks the debut Buffalo performance of a familiar act under a new moniker. The Hollywood Motel, fronted by Niagara Falls native turned Portland multi-media artist Billy Fortier, was formerly behind popular WNY act Seafox. This evening will be the band’s first outing – they have put together a one-off performance in Buffalo that luckily coincides with their holiday travel plans. The Hollywood Motel is rounded out by Fortier’s brother, Eric Fortier, Pete Heuer, and Deadwolf/Passed Out’s Andy Pothier. Their sound has a psych-y upbeat 70s sound with contemporary indie pop drive. The band is currently in the studio fleshing out their debut album with the Dandy Warhols. Also joining The Hollywood Motel are locals Canetis, who are fresh off the release of their new album Putting Time Together, and psych-pop trio VR Sunset. Doors are at 8pm with a $5 cover. Canetis – Putting Time Together

Things have been quite hot for newcomer Buffalo band Canetis. In short, the indie. alt-rock band formed in 2018, released their first single in July 2019, and have recently come off a raucous release show for their EP Putting Time Together. On first listen, their alt-rock sound becomes quite apparent, as well as the excellent execution of sophisticated song structure. Canetis have come to play. The first track off Putting Time Together is “Double Take,” which introduces the album with a four bar build of drums and long guitar tones. It breaks open into a syncopated guitar riff played with a palm mute. East Bay punk, Rancid and NoFx among others, popularized the fuzzed out guitar groove and lend influence throughout Putting Time Together. Tonight: Canetis EP Release

Tonight, make your way on down to the Rec Room to catch one of Buffalo’s newest up-and-coming acts as they celebrate the release of some new music. Canetis, a group of young heavy-hitters, just released their first EP entitled Putting Time Together, a five-song collection that perfectly blends alt and indie-rock goodness. Canetis has been making a name for themselves lately, so make sure to catch them as they surely won’t disappoint. Joining them on stage this evening is Buffalo heavy hitters Post Prom, and if you haven’t heard of these guys by now, tonight is the perfect opportunity to see what everyone’s been talking about. Tonight: Worse Things

Tonight, make your way down to Nietzche’s in Allentown to catch hard rockers Worse Things perform a headline set. Though it might be a Thursday night, in our opinion it’s really just Friday part 1, and that’s as good a reason as any to catch more than one great Buffalo act. Worse things, who released a self titled EP last spring, are one of The Queen City’s most underrated bands, and it’s only a matter of time before they work their way up to larger stages. If that’s enough of a reason to head out tonight, they will be supported by one of Buffalo’s newest groups, Canetis, who’s newest single is a banger in and of itself. Tonight: SMUG

Dust off those earplugs. Nietzsche’s will be hosting an alt-rock blowout tonight as pop punk trio SMUG headlines its first show of the season, with support from Canetis and Hundred Plus Club. SMUG left its past life behind with the release of 2018’s Gorgeous, a high-energy album that takes the late ‘00s pop punk we all loved (come on, you know you did) and brings it to the present, blasting listeners with a fresh, memorable blend of bubbly punk rock. If that’s not reason enough to get yourself down to Allentown, this will be Buffalo alt babies Canetis’ first-ever show, fresh off the back of the release of their impressive first single “Warning Call.” Round that out with Hundred Plus Club’s powerful indie rock, and you’ve got yourselves a certifiable banger. Canetis Reveals First Single “Warning Call”

The City of Good Neighbors is full of creatives, from artists, to poets, photographers and musicians. We clearly have a expansive and diverse group of people making contributions to the community to make it a better place. One of Buffalo’s newest band, Canetis (pronounced ca-nay-tis) is a recently minted quintet with who have released an equally shiny and polished single, “Warning Call’ to match. Their sound combines the angled jabs and cut of old-school alternative rock with the shimmer and sleekness of The Smiths or Gleemer. The group, consisting of Brendan Hoare, Mike Butler, Matt Sacha, Matt Broconier, and John Grennan, will make their live debut July 19th over at Nietzsche’s with SMUG and Hundred Plus Club.
