The New Pornographers at Asbury Hall (7/25/17)

Last Tuesday, The New Pornographers brought their tour to the historic Buffalo venue, Asbury Hall.  The band recently released their first record since 2014, titled Whiteout Conditions, and while the group played a solid amount off of the new record, they also played songs spanning their entire career.  With a boisterous opening set from, Cloud Nothings, the show did not disappoint.  Check out some photos from the night below, shot by blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor. Tegan and Sara at the Town Ballroom (07/29/17)

This past Saturday, indie pop legends, Tegan and Sara, took to the stage at the Town Ballroom to perform a career spanning set. While their setlist focused mainly on songs of of their 2013 LP, Heartthrob,  they also dug into their vast back catalog, performing fan favorites such as “Back In Your Head” and “Walking With a Ghost.” With an incredible opening set from Japanese Breakfast, there wasn’t a dull moment all night.  Check out some photos from the show below. Tonight: The New Pornographers

Well, I think it’s safe to say that tonight is one of the busiest nights for shows of the summer.  One option to make your Tuesday a special one is a rare appearance from Canadian indie vets, The New Pornographers.   On tour for their new album that dropped earlier this year, titled Whiteout Conditions, the legacy act is rolling through Buffalo with a stellar opener as well.  While you should expect to hear some cuts off of the new album, you’re sure to hear a good amount from their extensive, hit filled back catalog as well. The thing that makes this lineup so stacked is the touring opener for the show, Cloud Nothings.  While they have played in Buffalo a few times over the past couple years, the noisy indie outfit still brings the heat every show.  Doors open for the show at 7pm, and tickets are available at[...]

The Shins at the Rapids Theatre (7/11/17)

This past Tuesday, legendary indie act, The Shins, played a sold out show at the Rapids Theater in Niagara Falls. Even after all these years, the band still sounds incredible, Mercer’s voice sounds as great as it ever has, and they were able to absolutely pack the Rapid’s to the brim on a Tuesday. Five Most Anticipated Acts of Pitchfork Festival: Sunday

buffaBLOG is elated to announce that we will be covering the Pitchfork Music Festival for the third year in a row. The festival takes place at Union Park in Chicago, and we are sending blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor, to capture all of the action. The festival will take place July 14th through July 16th and will be headlined by LCD Soundsystem, A Tribe Called Quest, and Solange, with dozens of other amazing performers sprinkled across the weekend.  In anticipation of the festival, here are the five acts we are most excited to see on Sunday.  You can check out Brendan’s photos from last year HERE, HERE, and HERE. Pinegrove @ the Blue Stage, 5:15pm While I’m really upset about the overlap with RIDE, I’m gonna have to pick Pinegrove. Over the past years, this bands popularity level has blasted off, due to their newest LP, Cardinal. They have a wildly unique sound, something really special.[...]

Jeff Rosenstock @ the Red Stage, 1:45pm God damn this band is fun. While I am honestly a little surprised that they are playing Pitchfork Fest, I am still super excited. I’ve seen Jeff a few times in the past, and his live shows are always exceedingly energetic.[...]

Tonight: Big Thief

Fresh off of the release of their new LP, Capacity, Big Thief will be making their Buffalo debut tonight. The LP, out on Saddle Creek Records (Conor Oberst, Bright Eyes, Hop Along, Cursive, many many more) has been receiving raving reviews from  many major music publications, including Pitchfork, which gave the record their Best New Music rating. I can’t think of a better venue to house the Brooklyn four piece’s Buffalo arrival, as the Tralf Music Hall almost feels like it was made to house the band’s delicate, haunting sound. Doors are set to open at the Tralf at 7pm, and while there are no locals on the show, folk influenced Brooklyn act, Twain, will be kicking things off at 8pm. Tickets are only $12 at the door.

The Naked and Famous at the Town Ballroom (06/12/17)

All in attendance at the Naked and Famous show earlier this week we treated to a very special night.  Since their formation, the LA based synth pop has seldom played the Buffalo area, and they brought their A game to the Town Ballroom.  They played a set featuring tracks focusing on their last full length, Simple Forms, as well as a plethora of tracks from their popular 2010 debut album, Passive Me, Aggressive You. Buffalo’s own Humble Braggers kicked off the night with a tight set as well.  Check out some photos from the night below. Humble Braggers The Naked and Famous

PUP at Studio at Waiting Room (05/18/17)

Well, it was bound to happen eventually. After making their Buffalo debut at the Studio in 2014 and playing there once a year since, they finally sold it out. Following the release of their latest LP, The Dream is Over,  the Toronto pop punk four piece have steadily been gaining popularity, and at that showed at their performance.  Going as down as one of the more insane crowds I’ve seen at the Waiting Room, the packed house didn’t slow down for a minute over the course of the bands hour long set.   The show was opened with an awesome set by Prawn, who played with PUP the last time they were in Buffalo as well.   Check out some photos from the insane night below, shot by blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor. Tonight: Kevin Devine

Buffalo is in store for a very special treat tonight. Kevin Devine is making his way back to our city for his first show here in a couple years, but is leaving his band behind and playing a solo set in the basement of Asbury Hall, the 9th Ward. This treat of a solo show is normally reserved for big cities and special occasions, and is something you won’t want to miss if you are at all familiar with his material. Devine has been releasing music since the early 2000’s, and he is sure to be playing songs spanning his entire discography, including tracks from his side project with Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra, Bad Books. Local songwriter Sonny Baker will be kicking the show off, and he is fresh off of the release of a new EP, titled easier. Sonny will be playing a solo set as well. The mellow night[...]

Bayside at the Town Ballroom (5/10/17)

Last week, a very sold out Town Ballroom was completely packed for NYC emo/punk act Bayside. It was packed for a good reason though, as Bayside, who are still on tour for their new 2016 LP, titled Vacancy, brought along the timeless Say Anything for the ride, along with Buffalo based legacy act Reggie and the Full Effect. With Reggie and the Full Effect having all four members of local pop punk act Pentimento as a backing band, it only makes sense that they surprise the crowd and played a song as well. All three bands played their classics as well as the deep cuts, and it still felt like the crowd knew every word to all of the songs. Check out some photos from the amazing show below, shot by blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor. Reggie and the Full Effect Pentimento Say Anything Bayside
