Worse Things – Shallow Faith

When the clock struck midnight on December 17th, the world got a lot colder, darker, and bleak; but to post-hardcore band Worse Things, that was music to their ears. Their newest and bluest offering is a seven-song album of forlorn emo, post-hardcore, and grunge that they’ve titled Shallow Faith. With transitions that tether the songs together throughout the entirety of the project, it’s the perfect album to play from front to back, a rarity in today’s world of single releases and short attention spans. Members of Worse Things include: Zach, Anthony, Matt, and Rob, all based out of Buffalo/Fredonia NY. Their specific sound is reminiscent of both the early 2000s and the emo revival of the 2010s but never loses a 2022 edge… Something similar to jumping into a pool of sweet deja vu, Worse Things create a grungy space isolated from all else. Tonight: Worse Things

Tonight, make your way down to Nietzche’s in Allentown to catch hard rockers Worse Things perform a headline set. Though it might be a Thursday night, in our opinion it’s really just Friday part 1, and that’s as good a reason as any to catch more than one great Buffalo act. Worse things, who released a self titled EP last spring, are one of The Queen City’s most underrated bands, and it’s only a matter of time before they work their way up to larger stages. If that’s enough of a reason to head out tonight, they will be supported by one of Buffalo’s newest groups, Canetis, who’s newest single is a banger in and of itself. Also joining them is former Rochesterian turned Buffalonian Karsten Brooks as well as newcomers Shid. You’re not going to miss this one. Doors are at 8pm, cover is $5. We’ll see you there.[...]

Wild Once at Mohawk Place (5/10/19)

Fans of local music were treated to a superb showcase of the quality and diversity of Buffalo’s rock scene with Wild Once’s EP Release at Mohawk Place this past Friday, May 10th. Equal parts heartfelt and headstrong, Wild Once’s debut EP, Perennials (Admirable Traits Records), taps into the emotional ambivalence and messy uncertainty that define our lives and interpersonal relationships. Intertwining the dramatic thrust of midwestern emo with indie’s unvarnished charm, the band evoke heavy emotions without succumbing to melodramatics. Heavy-hitting supporting acts included Humble Braggers’ jubilant electronic-rock, Cooler’s gossamer cacophony, and Worse Things’ fuzzed-out fury. Worse Things Cooler Humble Braggers Wild Once

Tonight: Single Mothers

Ontario’s Single Mothers brings their debaucherous brand of rock-and-roll to the Rec Room this evening. The band, formed in 2008, recently released their third album, Through A Wall in September of 2018, and is visiting the city of good neighbors to show us what it’s all about. It will certainly prove to be a show we’ll all look back fondly upon. Single Mothers will be sharing the stage with Boston’s Rebuilder, as well as Buffalo acts The Eaves and Worse Things.

Tickets are $15, doors are at 7pm.  Check out Single Mothers’ “Dog Parks x Switch Off “right here. Written by Mike Rakiecki

Tonight: American Nosebleed

If you’re looking to inject a bit of hardcore punk energy into your life tonight, you should make a trip out to Lockhouse Distillery to catch Buffalo four-piece American Nosebleed. A super-group of talented Buffalo musicians, American Nosebleed specializes in fast and angry guitar driven songs a la Refused or fellow Buffalo legends Every Time I Die. They’re joined tonight by buzzing pop-punkers Kill the Clock, and the emotional punk rock of Worse Things. Tonight’s show is at Lockhouse Distillery & Bar in Buffalo’s historic Cobblestone District. Doors are at 8:30pm with a $10 cover. A friendly reminder that Lockhouse is a 21+ venue. Nudnik by American Nosebleed

Worse Things – Self-Titled

Worse Things is a fresh new three-piece from Buffalo whose debut EP is currently ripe for your listening pleasure. A self-titled endeavor, Worse Things is a six-song EP full of heavy and swirly post-hardcore/emo. Their emotive sound is propelled largely by grungy guitars and gravely vocals; it smarts of fellow sludgy emo-centric bands like Citizen, Basement, or Glassjaw. Opening track “Stay Away” is a burst of emotional energy and acts as a perfect introduction to Worse Things’ songwriting approach. First and foremost, this trio truly embraces the nature of being a three piece. Sure, guitar leads and flourishes pepper these tracks throughout the EP… But guitarist Zach Bennett layers his main guitar thick with distortion and swirly modulation, while bassist Anthony Fadale holds down a thick low end. Drummer Rob Ohlenschlager is full of energy, filling every song with precise, blistering drum fills. Loud, lush bands like Worse Things typically function best as a[...]
