Tonight: Brillz and SNAILS Twonkaholics Tour

If you happened to catch Brillz the last time he was in Buffalo, then you know that he knows how to throw down, and he throws down hard. Brillz and SNAILS are kicking off their Twonkaholics Tour tonight in Buffalo. Brillz, a moniker based on an abbreviation for “brilliant.” He has had releases on major labels like OWSLA, Mad Decent and Slow Roast Records, toured major cities and has played big name festival crowds. What started as a title for his album, “twonk” has clearly become it’s own defintion. What does TWONK mean? In an interview he did with Bass Collective, he said the word is all about it’s openness to interpretation. Twonk is whatever you want it to mean. “It’s about being weird, having fun and being creative,” he has said. Heavy Rotation: DJ Pizza Pizza

Buffalo producer Pizza Pizza first caught our attention earlier this year when he started posting a series of tracks or “slices,” as the artist refers them, to his soundcloud account. Despite the whimsical name, many of Pizza Pizza’s beats are a sinister blend of trap and bass with hard-hitting drums and sparse, chopped-up vocals. Tracks like “Slice 30” and “Slice 21” display a more idiosyncratic take on the Chicago-born juke style brought to international acclaim by the late DJ Rashad and show the artist’s grasp of several high-energy dancefloor styles. Balancing ethereal vibes with effective, straightforward trap inspired percussion “Slice 25,” released as a free download and featured here at buffaBLOG is perhaps the best example of the vibe the DJ will bring  this Friday when he spins at our second installment of Heavy Rotation at Allen Street Hardware. Pizza Pizza Dishes Out a New Slice

Slice 19 is the latest track from versatile Buffalo electronic artist Pizza Pizza. In the past we’ve heard a fusion of trap, electronic, and moombahton from Yung Zza. Here, he takes the route of a trap banger. It’s got the air-horn synths, the hard-hitting snares, and the repeatedly cocked gun, essential to a great trap track. Slice 19 is a testament to the consistent quality that Pizza Pizza should be recognized for. This is his 19th song in the last two months alone, and we can only expect more coming. Listen to it here:

Pluto Brady- The Beat Tape

Rochester producer Pluto Brady balances hazy, melodic textures with sinister elements of trap, bass, and hip-hop on his self-titled debut beat tape. The 18-year-old artist  has been previously credited for tracks on rapper Donzelly’s DMS mixtape as well as Black Kray’s Goth Luv mixtape and various other MCs. Bringing to mind producers like Clams Casino, Ryan Hemsworth, and Suicideyear, Brady’s instrumentals place emphasis on slow paced, patient melodic builds, making for an immersive experience that reveals new layers with each listen. Gucci Mane and Young Thug – Young Thugga Mane La Flare

With the release of Young Thugga Mane La Flare, two of the biggest trap stars in the game in Young Thug and Gucci Mane take on a project full of banging club tracks. Young Thug is the up and coming Atlanta artist that has been making waves with hit club singles like “Danny Glover” and “Stoner,” who has received the co-sign from the Trap God himself. Gucci, renowned for his consistency on his free projects, comes through with another solid effort on this tape, exchanging verses and choruses with Thugga throughout. Young Thug’s distinctly unique flow his on display throughout the project, as expected. Pizza Pizza Comes Through With Some Fresh Slices On Pie I

Airy synths, lead bass rhythms, and a variance of drum noises help form an impressive first album for Buffalo electronic hip hop artist DJ Pizza Pizza.  A pitched down “Pizza Pizza” DJ drop spatters throughout the songs, and they are probably the only words that matter on the whole project. The rest of the vocals heard serve as instruments as Pizza Pizza crafts a debut full  of different head-bobbing trip-hop/trap instrumentals.  Pizza Pizza is probably worth looking into due to his image alone. Every picture on his social media accounts is pizza related, and  his logo is of Little Caesar’s mascot holding an MPC and rocking a gold grill in his teeth with some gold on his wrist.  The format of the album, titled Pie 1, is that each song is a numbered slice that makes up the whole pie. The first song, “Slice 1,” is a really hard hitting trap beat[...]
