Tonight’s a big night for local melodic rock act First Ward – Zak Ward & co. are releasing a brand new EP with a great lineup at a unique venue. Tonight: Night Slaves LP Release Party

Recover from Thanksgiving and all of your family by indulging the darkness within tonight at the Mohawk when Night Slaves celebrate the release of their new full length with help frm SKIN SHIT and uncertain. Musical polymath David Kane and Nick Cave channeling vocalist John Toohill are back with some gorgeously dark post industrial pop music on their sophomore LP Night Slaves III, and the duo will be performing it in it’s entirety with a full band featuring friends from around the local scene. Opening the show will be some new noise from SKIN SHIT, aka Nola Ranallo of CAGES and Mark Kedzierski of GOD OF CAPS, and the otherworldly ritual ambient of uncertain. Doors are at 8pm and cover is $10. Night Slaves III by Night Slaves

Tonight: Mac Sabbath

There is no better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the formation of Birmingham UK rock/metal gods Black Sabbath than with tonight’s Mac Sabbath show at the Tralf. Equal parts skull crushing Sabbath tribute band and trenchant parody of fast food and consumer culture, Mac Sabbath kicks a profound amount of ass channeling the ur metal majesty of Ozzie, Tommy, Bill and Geezer while hilariously sending up modern life and shamelessly beloved pop culture iconography with a properly Sabbathesque live show that is all satisfyingly sweet sensory overload. And for a band that hails from Los Angeles California (pronounced “Californ-ay-yeh”), Ronald Osbourne really has a tremendous midlands accent. Doors are at 7pm, mayhem begins at 8pm, and tickets are $22.

Tonight: Well Worn Boot

Cosmic forces beyond our limited human capacity for understanding are aligning tonight in Allentown when beloved but currently defunct hillbilly psycho cowpunk outfit Well Worn Boot reunite for one night only at Nietzsche’s with an absolutely stacked all star bill. Prepare your mind and body for a potentially Jodorowskyesque (or is it Schlesingeresque?) journey that will test everything you have as you venture up the unholy mountain, urged upward by Fredtown steam folk punk foursome Mr. Boneless, also reuniting for the evening; Rochester freakazoids Harmonica Lewinski and experimental acoustic duo Green Schwinn before the deranged masked men of Well Worn Boot unleash god knows what upon those in attendance and doing whatever they’re going to do to us to break on through to their own twisted version of enlightenment. Will it be legal? Maybe. Will it be preposterous, twisted, and not soon to be forgotten? Without question. Doors are at 8pm and cost of[...]

Tonight: Ian Sweet

Tonight Los Angeles by way of Boston indie rockers Ian Sweet rolls through the Mohawk with fellow Angeleno art rock quartet Young Jesus, and recently reconstituted local duo and blog favorites Ugly Sun. Ian Sweet, aka Jilian Medford, is touring in support of her freshly released sophomore effort Crush Crusher, a powerful, fiercely emotional, and deeply rewarding DIY one woman band effort that alternately shimmers with beautiful restraint and shreds with glorious intent. Meanwhile, hyper literary yet primal post-punk riff rockers Young Jesus, noted for their improvisational live explorations, also just released some fresh new music of their own, the daring and searching The Whole Thing Is Just There. Then there’s skull crushing garage rockers Ugly Sun, still keeping things properly and properly unsavory but now as a duo, also have some new songs they want to play for you, so be sure to get there early. Doors are at 7pm[...]

Tonight: The Ataris

Whether it’s the earnest emo-punk of “In This Diary” or the monumental hit cover of “Boys of Summer,” So Long Astoria was truly one of the most influential albums of 2003. The Ataris have made their way to Buffalo today to relive the early aughts in celebration of the 15th anniversary of their landmark album. Tonight’s show is $20. Doors open at 6pm at Mohawk Place – bring your ID or no entry. A friendly reminder that this is an 18+ show.

Tonight: The Strokes vs Interpol Featuring Different Strokes vs Outerpol

What an amazing and miraculous time to be a music fan in Buffalo, NY! Not only is there a Strokes tribute band operating in the area featuring some of Buffalo’s best musicians in the form of Different Strokes, but now there’s a tribute band for their erstwhile “rivals” Interpol… featuring more of the city’s best going by the name of Outerpol, and both are colliding tonight to do metaphorical battle at the Mohawk as part of their run up to Halloween. Fans of early aughts NYC indie rock have to get downtown to catch the Different Strokes crew (Tom “Humble Braggers” Burtless, John “Girl Jeans” Grace, Ryan “The Slums” Schilia, Griff “Feverbox” Smith, Ben “King of the Goths” Parsons) represent for the Converse and denim jacket crowd while Outerpol, featuring Cooler’s Nick Sessanna as well as Hundred Plus Club’s Zain Shirazi, Burak Spoth and Josh Gidwitz. DJ Tight Mike Moretti[...]

Tonight: Handsome Jack Album Release Party

Tonight is a shockingly busy night for Buffalo music fans, with shows going off all over downtown, and Buffalo Iron Works has a killer show lined up with soulful Lockport rock revivalists Handsome Jack celebrating the release of their third album Everything’s Gonna Be Alright at Buffalo Iron Works with heavy duty psych rockers Deadwolf and garage rock outfit Johnny Nobody. If you know anybody who says “rock is dead” you can tell them to get out of the house more and  send them down to the Cobblestone District to hear up to the minute new tunes from Handsome Jack, and possibly catch a taste of the new stuff on the horizon from the ever ambitious Deadwolf, who’ve been hard at work on a follow up to Heavy Heart. It’s all going down tonight, and doors are at 8pm and cover is $12.

Tonight: Seafox

Ethereal folk act Seafox is returning from a romp on the west coast for a night of beautiful, intimate music. Seafox (aka William Fortier) specializes in lush compositions that sound beautiful fleshed-out, but could also certainly stand on their own. Support tonight comes from bedroom folk quartet heave and solo-act (and purveyor of sorrow), Ian McCuen. Tonight’s show is $7. Show up early at 7pm – music will end by 10pm. A friendly reminder that Sugar City is an all-ages venue with no drugs/alcohol/bad attitudes.

Tonight: Rainbow Kitten Surprise

North Carolina quintet Rainbow Kitten Surprise are visiting Buffalo tonight. The eccentrically-named band expertly mixes elements of folk, pop, and rock into something both palatable and fun. Thus far they have released three critically-acclaimed albums, culminating in their most recent, How to: Friend, Love, Freefall. They’re joined tonight by peppy indie-popper Caroline Rose. Tonight’s show is at Town Ballroom. Doors are at 7pm. Rainbow Kitten Surprise – Audiotree Live by Rainbow Kitten Surprise

Tonight: Harmonica Lewinski

Tonight Rochester Hell raising gang of malcontents Harmonica Lewinski make a welcome return to the Queen City opening for local legends The Irving Klaws and fellow Rochesteronians The Fox Sisters at Nietzsche’s. Frankly, this is a pretty bonkers lineup, featuring the aforementioned Rochester hellraisers, plus the hard charging, R&B party up fun of The Fox Sisters, as well as the raunchy and intense fun of The Irving Klaws, so this show might be exactly what you need after this extraordinarily wacky week. Also, this show is so not whitebread that the only suburban Millennial gentrifiers you’ll have to put up with are the ones you pass on Allen on your way to the show. Cover is $5 and doors are at 10pm. Tonight: Beach Slang

It’s been a pretty wild year of shows, and Robbie Takac has literally given us a genuine doozy, bringing indie band Beach Slang back to headline his Music Is Art festival, going down all day today at Buffalo Riverworks. After playing the area twice last year and creating much joy both times, the intense, exuberant, and frankly hilarious Philadelphia band released the achingly haunting Everything Matters But No One Is Listening, an affecting orchestral take on righteous cuts from the bands first few albums under the name Quiet Slang. But for tonight’s show they’re billed as Beach Slang so don’t expect an orchestra tonight… although that would be pretty sweet; instead you should probably expect an epic blowout of serious jams to get yer ya ya’s out to and then some. Music Is Art begins at 11am down at Riverworks, and as always it’s free, including Beach Slang, who play the main stage at 9:30pm.[...]

Tonight: Humble Braggers

Iconic Buffalo synth-pop quartet Humble Braggers is releasing their latest batch of songs tonight with the six-song Cycle EP, out now on Admirable Traits Records. Over the last 5+ years, the Braggers have released some of the most consistently excellent music Buffalo has to offer, and Cycle certainly continues that trend. Local support for this evening comes from jangle-pop act Little Summer and experimental synth act Space Cubs. Stick around to end your night out with a very dance-able DJ set from Buffalo mainstay collective, Dance Yrslf Clean. Tonight’s show is $10 – a copy of Cycle will be included with the price of admission. Doors are at 9pm. Remember kids, Nietzsche’s is a 21+ venue. Cycle by Humble Braggers

Accidental Fest Poster

Tonight: Accidental Fest

The day is finally here. It’s a punk Christmas in Buffalo tonight as the Accidental Fest goes down at The Mickiewicz Polish Library, the same spot where Torn Space Theatre puts on their performances. The venue is the perfect spot to house the absolute chaos that erupts when 10 different bands, 6 out of town touring bands and 4 local acts, all gather together under one roof. Coming from St. Louis are weirdo pop stars BB Eye; Janitor Scum from Calgary, Alberta; Big Ups and Meneka from NYC; Pandemix from Boston, and Spell Runner out of Albany. Local powerhouses Radiation Risks will be representing Buffalo alongside Tines,  and Becca Ryskalczyk. This won’t be a show you will want to miss. Doors are at 5:30pm and it’s $10 at the door.

Tonight: Greet Death

Flint, MI trio Greet Death is making their way to Buffalo tonight to bring their shoegazy goodness to the legendary Mohawk Place stage. Joining them are Cursive’s 15 Passenger act Campdogzz, who will also be making their Buffalo debut. Local support tonight comes in the form of an intimate and emotional solo set from scene veteran Bill Nehill and punk rock up-and-comers Velvet Bethany. Tonight’s show is at Mohawk Place at 8pm. Bring at least $7 to adequately support the touring bands.
