Tonight: The Multiple Cat

The angular pop mainstays in The Multiple Cat (IA) will make their way through Buffalo tonight on a musically diverse bill presented by Queen City Cartel. As a band, The Multiple Cat has stood the test of time as the ever-evolving project has spanned a nearly 20 year timeframe. Some of their latest material—see “Magic That Doesn’t Work,” below—finds a happy medium between indie rock and alt-country, feel-good tambourine vibes a-rumblin’. Make your way down to The Gypsy Parlor tonight to bask, dance, and maybe bask some more. In the name of true eclecticism, local support tonight will be provided by wild garage punk trio Kharlos and soaring psyche rockers Deadwolf, both acts having released fresh material this year. The party starts at 10pm for a cool $5.

Tonight: Short Moscato

Tonight over at the Gypsy Parlor, stop on down to celebrate the work of one of the Buffalo hip-hop scene’s finest members in Short Moscato. Whatever|Forever, the new album from the Good Huemans/Death Picnic MC, was just released a few weeks ago, and the record is nothing if not a testament to the city that built it. With it’s hard-edged rap and subtle melancholy, Whatever|Forever tells the story of a rapper, who like the Queen City, appears rough, but is thrillingly alive and brimming with originality. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention Wza’s production, which is almost reminiscent of the work of the late-great Nujabes. Short will be performing the album in full tonight and will be joined by some of the city’s most exciting upcoming artists, including MileHighMusik! and Billie E$$co. It goes without saying that tonight’s show will reflect the album it celebrates, which is to[...]

Tonight: Alex Berkley

End your stuffed holiday weekend strong tonight as Elmwood village every man, Alex Berkley, takes the stage at the Gypsy Parlor over on Buffalo’s West Side. 2015 looks to be a busy year of projects for Berkley, between a hopeful full length with his backing band, the Atlanta Falcons, to a new solo album to some collaborations with fellow Queen City singer/songwriters, Damian and Sonny Baker. The latter pairing just released a couple demos earlier this week that you can listen to here. Music begins later this evening at 8pm. Folkfaces will also appear on the bill. Mr. Boneless Album Release Show at the Gypsy Parlor (7/19/14)

Last Saturday at the Gypsy Parlor, Fredonia-bred, steam folk foursome, Mr. Boneless, celebrated the release of their debut LP, Cutting Teeth, a ten track collection of backwoods blues-punk. Joining them was crust-Americana act, Pine Fever. Staff photographer Robert Emhof was on hand that night to shoot the show. Check out his pictures below. Tonight: Mr. Boneless Album Release Show

Bumrush Booking recording artist, Mr. Boneless, will be celebrating the release of the group’s full length debut, Cutting Teeth, tonight at the Gypsy Parlor. The Fredonia-born, Buffalo-based steam folk quartet (think an early Modest Mouse if they came out of the back woods), led by the menacing growl of Elliot Boneless, has been making the rounds in the city for a the past couple years, between members relocating to Philly and back. Since settling in Buffalo, the band has become one of the better live acts in town, normally found on area bills along side fellow Fredonia act, Well Worn Boot. Cutting Teeth is already streaming on Boneless’ bandcamp page if you want to brush up on the new material before heading over tonight. Unsure if physical copies will be made available, but bring some extra cash in case. Music begins tonight at 8pm. Cover is not noted so maybe[...]

Tonight: Matt Script

Catch a Buffalo native back in his natural habitat tonight as Matt Script will be preforming in a showcase with Lady Lush and the Vinyls, Soloman Dixon, and Julian Burgois at The Gypsy Parlor. Script has been preforming in these parts since his high school days, but if you haven’t managed to catch him live yet, now’s your chance. Script’s music would best be described as indie-folk, though his tendency towards the experimental makes me want to say he’s more avant-indie than straight up folk.  His sound is current, the type of stuff you feel cool listening to, like you’re on the ground-floor of some up-and-coming scene. His influences are varied, ranging from The National to Bibio to the Dodos.  Each of his songs seems to showcase the different ways he uses his inspirations to create something uniquely his own. Script plays guitar and keyboard, sings, and works with a[...]

Tonight: The Loveless

Meanwhile back on the West Side, the Gypsy Parlor will be hosting retro garage rock outfit, The Loveless, and electro spazz act, Voices, later on for an enjoyable evening of music. Keeping the music going between acts, and long after, will be DJ sets from the Victory Gardens, a.k.a. Brett Mikoll of former blog faves All Blondes Go to Heaven, playing choice cuts of indie rock into the night. Show kicks off tonight at 8pm. Have $3 on hand for the door.
