Everything In Waves – Fading Out

Buffalo-based one-man-band Everything In Waves is a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to gorgeous sounds. The latest installation in his discography, Fading Out, takes listeners on a self-reflective journey. The vocals and lyrics are the vehicle of this five-song EP, consisting of stacked melodies with a driving force that feels like it takes you around the world five times and back… What I’m trying to say is, Everything In Waves, aka Anthony DelPlato, was born with pipes. Each song on Fading Out has its own distinctive concept that carries out an overall theme of hopelessness in hope itself. In Anthony’s own words: “The title track, ‘Fading Out’, closes the loosely chronological sequence and narrates the end of this disastrous connection. The suffering, the pain, the misery, it all finally started to fade away. This is not a happy album, but one that I think we can all associate with. It gives[...]

The Pop Kids – “Boston I”

Every classic alt-rock album needs an intro that rips, and The Pop Kids came in and did what they had to do. “Boston I” is a bona fide ballad of growing up in Boston, created for The Pop Kids’ debut self titled album. It satisfactorily gets you geared up for the rest of the guitar-based grunging that proceeds. With a taste of trippy in the words of The Pop Kids, “This is so surreal” and “This is so cool” when talking about “Boston I.” Check it out on Spotify too.

FLOWVERS – “When It Comes To It”

Across the Atlantic ocean resides a band by the name of FLOWVERS who are wavy enough to be heard overseas in the States. These folk have arrived here at buffaBLOG as the avengers of the anxious with “When It Comes To It.” Covid-19 took many things from people all over the world in these past two years… Whether it’s physical, mental, or spiritual loss; people suffered and still do from social drought. FLOWVERS can not only vouch for those chasing the concept of acceptance within their social life but lead them to the light in acceptance of self. It’s all demonstrated, of course, by their brand of jittery, high-energy indie rock. We’ve featured FLOWVERS before too – you can also check out “Far Away” and “Flowers.” Check it out on Spotify and Apple Music FLOWVERS · When It Comes To It

Small Pockets – “Good Reason”

Grab your keys, cooler, and a camera because you’re about to make some grade-A memories with this song. Atlanta-based artist Small Pockets gave us the first glimpse of summertime in a long time with their latest, “good reason.” Joey Kirby (aka Small Pockets) is a songwriter/multi-instrumentalist who is known for two things: “creating and biking w/ friends in Atlanta” via his Instagram. The Rich Rayburn-inspired music video for “small pockets,” animated by Abraham Mast, illustrates nothing less. Stream it on Spotify and Apple Music

Amateur Hockey Club – “What You Wanted”

You can hear the grime being shredded off the guitar in the grudging of Buffalo-based band Amateur Hockey Club‘s new single, “What You Wanted.” This is a common theme within the music of Amateur Hockey Club, as they radiate the essence of a blacklight in a back-alley, lit up with nothing else but neon signs in the night. Thick distortion wrapped with a thin layer of dried reverb on the vocals helps guide you into the wicked world of “What You Wanted.” Check it out on Spotify and Apple Music too. Heather Bond – “The Mirage”

With the weight of a feather, the voice of Nashville singer-songwriter Heather Bond floats whichever way the wind blows. The connection between her raw vocals and the instruments in her Live in Nashville performance of “The Mirage” prove it. Her execution of vocals are just as crisp live as they are on record. Not to leave out the notable bassist and producer Viktor Krauss, who keeps the audience grounded with a rich bassline. Stream it on Spotify and Apple Music

Christian Linsey – “Kids”

Coming in with the ambiance of the dance floor on prom night, Christian Linsey represents the retro indie rock of NYC. His deep, watery vocals put you in a whirlpool of reminiscence… That is, until Linsey rips his roots as a drummer right out of the ground and goes against the current of your whirlpool of memories. “Kids” reached the surface on February 18th 2022 serving as the single for Christian Linsey’s sophomore album New English.  Check it out on Spotify and Apple Music too. Del Paxton Gets Vinyl Release For September, Bedtime, Ontario

Recently brought to you on vinyl by Better Days Will Haunt You comes Buffalo-based Del Paxton’s EP, September, Bedtime, Ontario. Originally released by Topshelf Records in 2020, this three-song EP from the three-piece is packed with a good spread of sound, including but not limited to: mid 90s nitty-gritty emo; heavy-hitting hooks; righteous guitar riffs; cool chord progressions; and wonderful syncopation. Check out the EP in both digital (Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp) AND physical form:

Lake Notion – “It’s Complicated, Always”

All the way from Latvia, Lake Notion surprised us with this jangly energy-bomb they’ve titled “It’s Complicated, Always.” Reminiscent of neo-emo luminaries like Pinegrove, “Always” pairs big guitar sounds with emotional, but melodic vocals. Mid-song, the trio (!) surprises you with a nimble, mathy section, full of start-stop rhythms and intense, bombastic energy. Through and through, this one is an epic listen that continues to keeps you guessing, even as the huge “ah-ahhhh” vocals bring the song to a perfect close. Preview “Always” via YouTube below – you can also find it on Apple Music and Spotify

Bikini Trill – “Lemonade”

LA-based surf-poppers Bikini Trill venture into bedroom-pop warbles on their latest single, “Lemonade.” The song urges its listener to take time to find joy in the things they love doing (for example, “Play[ing your] bass all day” or “getting tattoos.” It’s done overtop a spindly guitar riff; tastefully nimble bass meandering; and an effected drum sound – it gives the song a mysterious vibe without ever losing it’s endearing positivity. If you’re curious, we also featured their song “Dead Friends” awhile back – different vibe, still dope. You can preview “Lemonade” via YouTube below, or, add it to your favorite Spotify playlist.

Jet City Sports Club – “She Don’t Need No One”

Buzzing, Sydney-based quartet Jet City Sports Club caught our ears with the sparkly indie rock of their latest single, “She Don’t Need No One.” They pair jangly, chorus-laden guitars with breezy vocals and a sunshine-y, summery mood – the perfect antidote for our currently frigid winter blight. This one feels tailor-made for a day at the beach and would sync perfectly next to fellow nautical-esque indie rockers Alvvays; a spindly indie jam from TOPS, or the mysteriousness of Crumb. You can find “She Don’t Need No One” on Soundcloud (below), Spotify, and Apple Music. Jet City Sports Club · She Don’t Need No One

Jamboree – “The Snow”

After nearly two years, Winnipeg-based trio Jamboree came back with a cold, inky, and beautifully distorted banger called “The Snow.” Jamboree gifted their fans with a sample of what their sophomore album, Life in the Dome is going to sound like… Due out April 1st on House of Wonders Records. Every aspect of the song sounds like it’s painted in black and white. Lyrics like “It’s freeing being resigned to doom.” capture the eerie perception of Jamboree’s reality. Check it out on Spotify, Apple Music, or Bandcamp. House of Wonders · Jamboree – The Snow

Genesee Hotel – Strawberry

Genesee Hotel from Buffalo NY claims to create “songs your mother would love,” and I couldn’t have said it better myself. Their debut EP, Strawberry, was born on July 1st of 2021, and it’s due for quite the growth spurt. The project consists of four tracks that represent the stages of a classic night out. “Strawberry” would be played when closing time comes around at the bar. The slow-but-strong, succulent guitar strums from Nick Sessanna are perfect for a woozy slow dance either accompanied or solo. The lyrics hit in a way that flushes your body with a nostalgic blast of emotions from the past, giving off a premonition that we’re not going to be here forever… Together at least. “Little One” is the type of song you sing (or scream) to the Uber driver on the ride back home from the bar. Head and hands out the window, letting[...]

Colour Tongues – “Ashgrove”

The zest of Colour Tongues is full of movement and vigor and their latest single “Ashgrove” brings it all. The indie rock four-piece from Vancouver, CA introduced the movie-score-like song to the rest of the world on February 17th of 2022, however, it sounds like it could have came from 2220. It’s a high energy jam fit for any car ride with your friends or dance party in your room by yourself. The iconic instrumentation along with catchy lyrics all tied in with legendary production is what makes “Ashgrove” a true masterpiece. You can check out our other Colour Tongues features here and here. Check it out on Spotify too. Colour Tongues · Ashgrove

The Moving Stills – “U and Me”

The Moving Stills are a four-piece band with a 70’s aesthetic, an 80s retro-tinge to their 2022 brand of indie pop, and one hell of a fgrowing following. Coming from New South Wales, the numbers that The Moving Stills assemble speak for the band’s top tier cadence. The intro of their latest project Sunshine Corner is a contagiously upbeat two step jig – “U and Me” will make you want to run out in the street and start dancing with strangers.  Check it out on Spotify and Apple Music too.
