Tonight: Night Slaves

You may be living under a rock if you aren’t aware of the show that every local media outlet is talking about – Night Slaves release show at Mohawk Place. After much anticipation, the industrial duo, comprising of Johnny Toohill (JOHNS, Alpha Hopper) and David Kane (Them Jazzbeards) is set to release their self-titled debut six-song cassette via Bad Drone Media. Night Slaves makes some dirty industrial pop that sounds like it came out of a grimy basement (in the best way possible). This dark electronica is flavored with a psychedelic sound that has a pretty blatant punk influence. Toohill and Kane deliver on their own name, bringing out a specific yet dark atmosphere. The music is refreshingly produced in the provocative spirit of the avant-grade, and intensely immersive. Also on the bill are locals CAGES, VWLS, and Malaria control, with Flatsitter taking care of the atmosphere. Show starts at[...]

Night Slaves Share Video for “No Blinding Light”

After a quick introduction at the beginning of the summer, industrial duo Night Slaves (David Kane and John Toohill) have been making up for lost time. First, the pair dropped its second demo a couple weeks ago for the track  “Into The Nowhere,” and now have a brand new video courtesy of FLATSITTER. The audio/visual head trip for the duo’s latest shared track “No Blinding Light” is best viewed with those old 3-D glasses you have lying around, and should be a nice holdover while the band puts the finishing touches on its debut cassette. FLATSITTER, by the way, has been quietly building a nice collection of local music videos for the likes of Jax Deluca, Nick Gordon and Frankie NP, as well as the trailer for Torn Space Theater’s much buzzed about production of They Kill Things. Catch up on the pair’s growing digital catalog here. Check out the[...]

Jax Deluca – Wither Without You

I’m always a sucker for a play on words. The title of Jax Deluca’s first solo release, Wither Without You, embodies the strength of defiant independence and the honesty of underlying defeat. The toss and turn of an addiction: to a lover, a friend, a long-gone identity, a habit. Combining meditative melodies and insightful lyrics, Deluca weaves a collection of songs that foretell the in-between feelings we all experience. It’s what good poetry does–expresses the collective through a seemingly personal lens. Recorded in the Karpeles Manuscript Museum during business hours, one can imagine bodies gazing at the current boxing exhibit, while Deluca strums the ukulele and Kyle Marler works the pipe organ, creating a dual experience of artistic coercion. Even though live albums aren’t particularly rare, the audio engineering by Benjamin Jura, and the mixing by Damian Weber, nuance the sounds so that it’s (almost) impossible to tell where they[...]

Watch Flatsitter’s SAFE WOR(L)D

If you have yet to attend one of Flatsitter‘s “shared virtual reality experiences,”  then check out the short clip that was just released to see what you could be getting yourself into when the audio/visual pair throws its next event. The duo debuted SAFE WOR(L)D earlier this year at the Buffalo Niagara Hostel, and just this last weekend, put on another installment at the Foundry Suites on Valentine’s Day. Both events quickly sold out so be on the look out for Flatsitter’s next event if you wish to experience. Watch the SAFE WOR(L)D montage, directed by Kevin Charlies Kline, below.

Tonight: Flatsitter’s SAFE WOR(L)D

Let’s start with a brief mental exercise, run through all the possibilities one has for a Valentine’s Day activity, with a partner or with friends…Pretty cliche, pretty ‘done-to’death’ right? Well, tonight at The Foundry Lounge, there is actually something a little bit more unique, which is probably why it appears to be sold out. SAFE WOR(L)D is billed as a “shared virtual reality” experience. Guests receive a one-on-one session with an Oculus Rift, being placed in a series of utopian environments. For those unfamiliar with the Oculus Rift, it is a virtual reality headset that allows for full head movement and an overall immersive experience. This isn’t the Tron like virtual reality you remember from the ’90s. Presented by Flatsitter, this is sure to be an incredible experience for those in attendance. The first run of SAFE WOR(L)D was sold out, and from the looks of it, so is this[...]

Hot Tip Releases “DNA” Video, Produced by Flatsitter

Hot Tip’s new video for “DNA,” produced by Flatsitter, is what your TV does when you’re sleeping. And what your TV does when you’re sleeping is give everyone who’s still awake seizures. It’s a dance party, and someone faceless brought a body suit and a color pallette straight out of a 90’s neon wet dream. Definitely fits the song’s frayed, frenetic vibe. Check it out below. “DNA” by Hot Tip (2015) from FLATSITTER on Vimeo.
