Tonight: White Reaper

Ascendant Louisville hard rockers White Reaper headline a killer lineup tonight at the Town Ballroom with Chicago psych rock outfit Post Animal and local garage rock heroes Made Violent. In town in support of their very, very well reviewed sophomore effort The World’s Best American Band, White Reaper will be unleashing their bold, fully loaded and totally kick ass 70’s/80’s rock stylings (minus the problematic baggage) on the willing and eager faithful, while Post Animal returns to play Buffalo twice in one year having melting faces with their Sabbath meets Tame Impala jams at the Tralf in May when they opened for that ill fated and abridged Wavves show. Hometown garage rock troublemakers Made Violent, who are currently prepping for the release of new music next year and getting ready for a tour of the midwest with Ugly Sun, open the show, returning to the Town Ballroom stage that started it all,[...]

Tonight: Acid Dad

Tonight the Waiting Room hosts a downstate vs upstate New York battle of the bands when NYC’s Acid Dad and Brooklyn post punks Honduras share a bill with local fellas Ugly Sun and Deadwolf. Actually, it’s not a battle of the bands at all; everybody’s cool and there’s no cash prizes or bragging rights on the line (or are there?), and the real winners are local fans of garage and psychedelic rock down to kick it out on a Sunday night with these fine bands. NYC power trio Acid Dad specialize in the kind of sleezy garage rock usually ideal for getaway driving in vintage cars and/or driving on dark roads with the headlights off under the influence. Brooklyn’s Honduras meanwhile have been generating buzz in all the right places thanks to a raw garage rock that mainlines that 70’s downtown punk sound to satisfying effect. Local openers are both blog[...]

Tonight: SURVIVE

Halloween’s not quite over yet for Buffalo this year. In a pretty damn good year of shows one of the most surprising and pleasing gets of 2016 is After Dark Entertainment’s bringing Austin TX electronic band SURVIVE to the Waiting Room tonight. SURVIVE has had an interesting and probably thrilling 5 months due in no small part to their participation in creating the tremendously effective soundtrack to Netflix’s summer blockbuster hit Stranger Things, a ridiculously dense and pleasing homage to Spielberg, Stephen King, and the early 80’s that virally conquered the pop culture zeitgeist upon it’s release in mid July. The band has enjoyed the increased exposure, releasing Stranger Things soundtrack albums along with a new album in September, RR7349 embarking on a national tour that brought them to our fair city. This show is a must for WNY Stranger Things obsessives and fans of 80’s flavored electronic minimalism, and a real coup for After[...]

Tiny Moving Parts at Waiting Room (05/31/16)

This past Wednesday night, the emos came out in droves to see Tiny Moving Parts at Waiting Room. The band has played Buffalo more than a few times over the past couple of years, and have built a strong local following. With relatable lyrics and a boisterous live show, the crowd was on its feet and singing along the whole show, partly due to some stellar opening sets from Buffalo’s own Alleys, as well as touring acts Free Throw and Prawn.  Check out some photos from the show below, and click HERE for a full gallery. Every Time I Die at Town Ballroom (12/20/15)

Well, it’s another Every Time I Die Christmas show in the books.  At this point, you should probably know of ETID, being one of the bigger exports out of Buffalo music in a while. The band’s heavy, pummeling sound never disappoints to create an absolutely raucous crowd, and this show was no exception.  While I was a little bummed out by how much flat out fighting I saw going on in the pit, the band absolutely played to their fullest, serving as a reminder that they will always be Buffalonians at heart. Check out some shots of Revealer, Harms Way, Stick to Your Guns, and Every Time I Die below, and click here for a full gallery of shots from the night. There was a time where I thought And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead was the longest band name ever. How naive of me. Tonight: Young Thug

Southern drawlin’ straight from the ATL, Young Thug kickstarted his career when he signed over to Gucci Mane’s 1017 Brick Squad Records. The Rich Gang track “Lifestyle” is what really spiked Young Thug’s career, as well as becoming one of the most viral references on Vine. 1017 Thug, his fourth mixtape, was the first release of his on the label. His single, “Stoner,” became widely-known, additionally winning Best Club Banger for the BET Hip Hop Awards last year. Young Thug has become known for his eccentricity and style. Slurring words, his tracks sometimes become mysterious puzzles in and of themselves. It’s definitely safe to say that there aren’t many rappers out there like Young Thug. On his Rodeo Tour, Young Thug will be performing tonight in Buffalo along with Houston-native Travi$ Scott. After Dark Entertainment present the Rodeo Tour: Young Thug and Travi$ Scott Town Ballroom (681 Main St.) $35 day[...]
