Cursive w/ Gladie @ Rec Room
Legendary Omaha indie rock act Cursive returns this Thursday for a trip down memory lane, much to the delight western New York’s aging scenesters. Cursive broke through to many fans with 2003’s critically acclaimed album The Ugly Organ. The album has influenced thousands of projects and has been a mainstay in hundreds of thousands of fans playlists. Lead by Tim Kasher, the songs are brooding and angsty yet in a mature way that is self-reflective and poetic.
Undoubtedly Cursive will sprinkle in tracks from The Ugly Organ, Domestica, and Burst and Bloom. If you’ve sat out on Cursive’s newest material, please catch yourself up because it’s on par with the past catalog which is both exciting and promising. Opening the bill will be Philadelphia indie act Gladie. $25 at the door + fees. Exeunt.

Overhand Sam & Bad Weapon @ Jack Rabbit
Overhand Sam, the performing name for multi-faceted musician Sam Snyder, has been a mainstay in Rochester’s music scene for over fifteen years. Whether playing his solo work or joining onto full-band projects like Maybird or Anamon, Sam’s trademark overhand guitar playing style is both unique and memorable. More recently, Overhand Sam may be on your radar with their slot on this year’s Borderland Festival and participation in the Battle of the Bands leading up to the weekend concert. The cool thing about this being at Jack Rabbit on a Friday night is that it’s free! Use that money to buy food or a beverage.
Tuesday, November 12th @ 7pm
Sex Mex w/ Main Breaker and Fatal Figures @ Amy’s Place/Area 54
Synth punk project Sex Mex comes to Buffalo this Tuesday in support of their new, fast-moving EP, Goes to Hell. Based out of San Antonio, Sex Mex is the moniker for Clark Gray. Since 2021, the band has been releasing singles and music at a dizzying rate with the majority of songs clocking in between 90 seconds and two and a half minutes. Sex Mex’s sound is raw and upbeat, in the realm of the early fuzziness of Wavves with the singalong energy of FIDLAR. Also sharing the bill will be local punk act Main Breaker and noisy garage rockers Fatal Figures. $10 at the door.
