Queer DIY collective, The Lavender Room, celebrate their fourth year as an organization that has been unwavering in their promotion and support of the LGBTQIA+ music and arts scene. This year’s THEYFEST features a wide variety of local and regional talents, dabbling in pop, to hip-hop, to hardcore. There are so many bands to check out, but in order to save time just know there will be pop-in sets from Science Man, Muddle, Welks Mice, Stress Dolls, Neftali, Bile Study, All Maine Points, Torture Agenda, and much much more. The festival starts at 1pm and goes into the wee hours of Sunday morning so pack like four Bang Energies and a Nalgene. $15 and all-ages.
Monday, October 6th @ 7pm
AFI @ Buffalo RiverWorks
AFI aka A Fire Inside has been a longtime staple in the skate and emo scenes. Since forming in 1991, the band has captured the angst of teenage culture, evolving their sound to dabble in punk, hardcore, and screamo. AFI achieved mainstream success with their breakout album Decemberunderground in 2006, connecting with a fanbase through their heavy-hitting hooks. The band has served as inspiration to countless post-hardcore acts in the scene, including Buffalo’s own Gatto Black.
Opening the night will be Candian electro project TR/ST. $56.
Tuesday, October 7th @ 7pm
Stereolab @ Asbury Hall
Legendary UK/French avant-garde pop act Stereolab makes a Tuesday night jaunt to the Allentown outskirts for an early week banger. The widely influential band has been around since the early 90s, crafting songs that range from college radio rock to experimental pop with a dash of krautrock influence. Fans of Yo La Tengo, Badly Drawn Boy, or Geese would be into this one. $40 church fee.
