Must See Shows (1/29/25-2/4/25)

Wishy @ 9th Ward
Indiana-based indie quintet Wishy makes a stop at the coziest basement venue in town this Thursday. Formed in 2021, the project has exploded onto the blogosphere with their accessible shoegaze sound that rivals some of the most buzzed-about college radio standouts. Wishy is touring in support of their latest full-length release, Triple Seven, which came out during the dog days of summer via Winspear Records. Fans of Wild Pink, Girl Scout, or Ducks Ltd would be into this one. Local one-man R&B psych-pop act Ex-Pat opens the night up. The fun starts at 8pm with an $18 cover.

Mohawk Place’s Farewell Show Night 2
Well, it’s happening again. Mohawk Place shuts its doors for the second time in buffaBLOG history. In 2013 with the initial closing, there was a giant rallying of the local scene to commemorate the fallen staple, however in 2025 this feels a bit more like a last call than a scene rallying cry. Don’t get us wrong, the two night farewell spectacular is filled to the brim with great local talent, but since the summer, there’s seemed to been a fizzling out of regular programming and commitment from the venue.
The first night of the final Mohawk Place double feature showcases many of the modern acts that have been buzzed about on the local circuit, including Starjuice; Amateur Hockey Club; Cooler; Tyler Bagwell and Sally Schaefer; and Spit Sisters. In essence, it’s a strong local alt/punk bill of projects that have largely launched post-pandemic.
Night 2 is where the scene veterans who survived the first shuttering come back for another tribute to their frequent haunt. There will be sets from blues rock and roll band Handsome Jack; swamp-folkees Pine Fever; old school punk heavy-hitters Irving Klaws; and punk/metal sets from Malarchuk, Nine Layers Deep, Evil Things, Iron Fist and Huns. This is an all night affair with the night starting off at 5pm. Bring your cool clothes to work because you won’t have time to go home. $20 cover.

Real Estate @ Electric City
Dreamy hazeballs Real Estate returns to 433 Pearl St. after last playing the space nearly a decade ago under the Tralf banner. We last saw the band in the Queen City in 2017, as part of the early days of the Cobblestone Music Festival (RIP). Formed in Ridgewood Queens in 2008, the band saw much success with their 2011 breakout album, Days, which catapulted the solo careers of former/current members, birthing 2010s scene darlings Ducktails and Alex Bleeker & the Freaks. Head out to this one, as you might not get another opportunity to catch real estate until 2033 if the band keeps with the same pattern. Opening the show is bedroom-pop evolution Grumpy. $37.04 gets you past the ticket scanner.
