Basement Revolver – “Tree Trunks”

Haunting, beautiful, gorgeous… Three words that perfectly describe “Tree Trunks” from Ontario based trio Basement Revolver. Swimming in reverb, the dirge-like track makes use of minimalist guitar that alternates between cavernous clean tones and dirty fuzz. The cherry-on-top is singer Chrisy Hurn’s vulnerable delivery via her meaningful lyrics. Fans of Now, Now, Pedro the Lion, or Phantogram will really dig this one. Their latest, Agatha EP, is available via a variety of sources.

Loud Forest – “I’m Not Your Girl”

We’ve been jamming on this feisty debut from Cali married duo Loud Forest. “I’m Not Your Girl” is a pulsating synth pop track conceived and performed by vocalist Rachel Chadwick. A requiem to times passed at a long-lost summer camp, “I’m Not Your Girl” is a jam about avoiding and dismissing assumptions of young love. Check them out on the ‘Gram too.

Lost Identity – “Plaque”

Lost Identity and Bronze Baby Shoes released a new single “Plaque.” Consisting of a combination of North American talent with Guelph, Ontario Canada’s Lost Identity and Virginia native and producer Bronze Baby Shoes. The beat first came to Lost Identity through former Survivor contestant Shane Power’s radio show chat room. The beat shares a connection to old school hip hop through tweak scratches and some old-school samples. Western Divide – “Warner Ave”

Orange County, California group released “Warner Ave” as a part of their full-length Fall In Love To This, which released in July. There are two different types of vocals presences on the track, which goes along with the mixture of hardcore and folk. There is the soft croon from the lead and a growl from the backing vocals. Eldoradio – “China House”

Swedish band Eldoradio dropped “China House” to promote their upcoming album. The single is from the band’s debut album 21st Century Explosive Sound, coming out in the summer from Welfare Sounds & Records. Fresh off a festival gig at the NGOM Festival in Kosovo on July 7, the band is continuing to work on their craft. Catchy, rapid-fire guitar riffs create an upbeat background for the song. Sundaes – “Everything”

Nashville-based Sundaes released “Everything” as a part of their self-titled EP that came out on March 22. The band made their impact right away with two sold out shows at Chelsea Hotel Storefront Gallery in New York. A mellow guitar riff carries into the falsetto vocals. Towards the chorus, the guitar sets off on its own adventure, reminiscent of the blues style guitar of the ‘60s. Shorts – “Sun Dogs”

Melbourne, Australia-based band Shorts released “Sun Dogs,” the second single from their debut EP Something Else. The song originally came as a completed instrumental from guitarist Armarin Saengsri, but needed some type of lyrics to complete the song. Vocalist Lachlan Bradford took some of his notes from his time in Canada working in a gondola hut to add to the track. Justin Jay – “Can’t Hang”

Wy – “What Would I Ever Do”

In a raw and exposing arrangement, Wy’s latest single “What Would I Ever Do” redefines self discovery in its most vulnerable form. The indie pop duo set the soundscape with echoing rhythm guitar, rippling synths, and moody vocal melodies. Bleach Dream – “Drown in Colours”

Back from a break from their music, Melbourne-based Bleach Dream released the second single “Drown in Colours,” off their forthcoming album Saudade, due out in August. Marty Greensill and Dave O’Kane originally gave up their dreams of a music career to pick up full-time work, but a few weekends playing together led to the inception of Bleach Dream. Placing an emphasis on the guitar work, the song has few lyrics that come as faded falsetto. The dreamy guitars come as the focus of the song with each playing back and forth from one another. Magdalena Bay – “Drive Alone”
