MNYNMS – “Oracle (TEEEL Remix)”

Houston-based synthpop act,  MNYNMS (pronouned ‘Many Names’), dropped an EP this morning titled Rite of Passage with an additional EP dedicated to remixes for the lead single, “Oracle.” buffaBLOG was lucky enough to get ears on one of the official remixes first. Producer extraordinaire, TEEEL, got a hold of the track “Oracle” and immediately picked the pace up. On the “Oracle” remix, TEEEL inserts his 80’s new-wave take on the  song, creating a dance-able daydream that is simply infectious. MNYNM’s dual EPs Rite of Passage and Oracle Remix are both available on iTunes. In the meantime you can stream MNYNMS’ “Oracle (TEEEL Remix)” below. X-DOG – “Pull Me Up”

Any Batavian (or native of Buffalo, Rochester, or any of the towns in between) is sure to remember Vagrant Records’ Down To Earth Approach, whose success in the early aughts cemented their legacy as one of the most influential and successful bands to come out of WNY. After a decade in limbo, all five original members are picking up where they left off in a new project called X-Dog. Fun fact: X-Dog recorded their drums with fellow Batavian and buffaBLOG staple, Anthony Del Plato. “Pull Me Up” is a yearning, mid-tempo jam that mixes 2000s emo vibes with a contemporary power pop feel. “Pull Me Up” is about returning to your hometown – a perfect jam for inspiring a wave of nostalgia as you pull off the 90 and see the familiar sights of home. You can buy a “cassingle” featuring X-Dog’s first two singles, including “Pull Me Up,” here. [soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/257289178″[...]

The Fig Mints Reveal First Single From Forthcoming Split

In preparation for another well-anticipated split release via Dadstache Records, the Rochester tape label has graced us with a single on the forthcoming cassette from The Fig Mints (ongoing lo-fi indie rock project of ex-Comfy guitarist Bobby Rogan) / The Real Burnouts (Utica’s premiere psychedelic bedroom warriors). The track, titled “And So On” and delivered from The Fig Mints’ side of the tape, cashes in on the joys of lo-fi fuzz, bearing resemblance the likes of Sebadoh and Violent Femmes. The song leaves behind some of the bedroom vibes of The Fig Mints’ earlier material, but the indie charm still flows forth, blue and true. Screeching guitars, handclaps, and tambourine—what more could you ask for? The split, titled “Revitalized Parts / Halo Lacerations” drops on 3/25, and preorders for the tape are now active over at Dadstache. Slam play below to stream The Fig Mints’ “And So On,” and keep[...]

buffaBLOG Premiere: Work Drugs – “Free To Roam”

We’ve been a fan of Work Drugs at buffaBLOG since their 2011 sleepy dream-pop single, “Rad Racer,” so we were beyond excited to jump on an opportunity to premiere their latest single, “Free To Roam.” The band is comprised of electro-pop, Philadelphia-by-way-of- Florida, synth workhorses, Thomas Crystal and Benjamin Louisiana. “Free To Roam” is a featured track on band’s  eighth album in four years, RUNAWAYS, with a set release in early October.  The single, from a flavor sense, is more in the realm of “Double LIfe” than “Rad Racer.” It’s bouncy, carefree,  and accessible, similar to if you let Two Door Cinema Club produce a Phoenix album after sitting down with the latest Cherub release. For a local recommendation, they would be perfectly nestled somewhere between JOYWAVE and Humble Braggers. The subject matter of “Free To Roam” is about young love, hitting the country side, and discovering a new color with[...]
