FLOWVERS – “When It Comes To It”

Across the Atlantic ocean resides a band by the name of FLOWVERS who are wavy enough to be heard overseas in the States. These folk have arrived here at buffaBLOG as the avengers of the anxious with “When It Comes To It.” Covid-19 took many things from people all over the world in these past two years… Whether it’s physical, mental, or spiritual loss; people suffered and still do from social drought. FLOWVERS can not only vouch for those chasing the concept of acceptance within their social life but lead them to the light in acceptance of self. It’s all demonstrated, of course, by their brand of jittery, high-energy indie rock. We’ve featured FLOWVERS before too – you can also check out “Far Away” and “Flowers.” Check it out on Spotify and Apple Music FLOWVERS · When It Comes To It

Small Pockets – “Good Reason”

Grab your keys, cooler, and a camera because you’re about to make some grade-A memories with this song. Atlanta-based artist Small Pockets gave us the first glimpse of summertime in a long time with their latest, “good reason.” Joey Kirby (aka Small Pockets) is a songwriter/multi-instrumentalist who is known for two things: “creating and biking w/ friends in Atlanta” via his Instagram. The Rich Rayburn-inspired music video for “small pockets,” animated by Abraham Mast, illustrates nothing less. Stream it on Spotify and Apple Music

Amateur Hockey Club – “What You Wanted”

You can hear the grime being shredded off the guitar in the grudging of Buffalo-based band Amateur Hockey Club‘s new single, “What You Wanted.” This is a common theme within the music of Amateur Hockey Club, as they radiate the essence of a blacklight in a back-alley, lit up with nothing else but neon signs in the night. Thick distortion wrapped with a thin layer of dried reverb on the vocals helps guide you into the wicked world of “What You Wanted.” Check it out on Spotify and Apple Music too. Heather Bond – “The Mirage”

With the weight of a feather, the voice of Nashville singer-songwriter Heather Bond floats whichever way the wind blows. The connection between her raw vocals and the instruments in her Live in Nashville performance of “The Mirage” prove it. Her execution of vocals are just as crisp live as they are on record. Not to leave out the notable bassist and producer Viktor Krauss, who keeps the audience grounded with a rich bassline. Stream it on Spotify and Apple Music

Christian Linsey – “Kids”

Coming in with the ambiance of the dance floor on prom night, Christian Linsey represents the retro indie rock of NYC. His deep, watery vocals put you in a whirlpool of reminiscence… That is, until Linsey rips his roots as a drummer right out of the ground and goes against the current of your whirlpool of memories. “Kids” reached the surface on February 18th 2022 serving as the single for Christian Linsey’s sophomore album New English.  Check it out on Spotify and Apple Music too. Ian McCuen – Permanent Ending

The ever-so-gentle acoustic tones of Buffalo based multi-instrumentalist Ian McCuen recently brought closure to their project, Songs of Fleeting Permanence, originally started pre-pandemic in April of 2019. Their latest installment, Permanent Ending, features songs such as “Five Year Plan” which is guaranteed to lift every hair on your body from the whispered vocals (which are expertly mixed by the way) reminiscent of Bon Iver or Sufjan Stevens. Ian invented the sonic equivalent of a lazy river with instrumental track “Desultory,” and the final and title-track to the EP, “Permanent Ending,” provides a warm and nostalgic ending to this long-running project. You can find Permanent Ending on Bandcamp (below) or on Spotify. Permanent Ending by Ian McCuen

Del Paxton Gets Vinyl Release For September, Bedtime, Ontario

Recently brought to you on vinyl by Better Days Will Haunt You comes Buffalo-based Del Paxton’s EP, September, Bedtime, Ontario. Originally released by Topshelf Records in 2020, this three-song EP from the three-piece is packed with a good spread of sound, including but not limited to: mid 90s nitty-gritty emo; heavy-hitting hooks; righteous guitar riffs; cool chord progressions; and wonderful syncopation. Check out the EP in both digital (Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp) AND physical form:

Jamboree – “The Snow”

After nearly two years, Winnipeg-based trio Jamboree came back with a cold, inky, and beautifully distorted banger called “The Snow.” Jamboree gifted their fans with a sample of what their sophomore album, Life in the Dome is going to sound like… Due out April 1st on House of Wonders Records. Every aspect of the song sounds like it’s painted in black and white. Lyrics like “It’s freeing being resigned to doom.” capture the eerie perception of Jamboree’s reality. Check it out on Spotify, Apple Music, or Bandcamp. House of Wonders · Jamboree – The Snow

Genesee Hotel – Strawberry

Genesee Hotel from Buffalo NY claims to create “songs your mother would love,” and I couldn’t have said it better myself. Their debut EP, Strawberry, was born on July 1st of 2021, and it’s due for quite the growth spurt. The project consists of four tracks that represent the stages of a classic night out. “Strawberry” would be played when closing time comes around at the bar. The slow-but-strong, succulent guitar strums from Nick Sessanna are perfect for a woozy slow dance either accompanied or solo. The lyrics hit in a way that flushes your body with a nostalgic blast of emotions from the past, giving off a premonition that we’re not going to be here forever… Together at least. “Little One” is the type of song you sing (or scream) to the Uber driver on the ride back home from the bar. Head and hands out the window, letting[...]

Colour Tongues – “Ashgrove”

The zest of Colour Tongues is full of movement and vigor and their latest single “Ashgrove” brings it all. The indie rock four-piece from Vancouver, CA introduced the movie-score-like song to the rest of the world on February 17th of 2022, however, it sounds like it could have came from 2220. It’s a high energy jam fit for any car ride with your friends or dance party in your room by yourself. The iconic instrumentation along with catchy lyrics all tied in with legendary production is what makes “Ashgrove” a true masterpiece. You can check out our other Colour Tongues features here and here. Check it out on Spotify too. Colour Tongues · Ashgrove

The Moving Stills – “U and Me”

The Moving Stills are a four-piece band with a 70’s aesthetic, an 80s retro-tinge to their 2022 brand of indie pop, and one hell of a fgrowing following. Coming from New South Wales, the numbers that The Moving Stills assemble speak for the band’s top tier cadence. The intro of their latest project Sunshine Corner is a contagiously upbeat two step jig – “U and Me” will make you want to run out in the street and start dancing with strangers.  Check it out on Spotify and Apple Music too.

Sonic Løland – “Up To You”

The fizzy bop “Up To You” by Sonic Løland sounds like a musical merry go round. Hailing all the way from Oslo Norway, Sonic Løland sent soundwaves across the Atlantic Ocean, and boy did they hit us hard. Sounding something like the next Jack Johnson with a psychedelic twist, Sonic Løland is gearing up for the release of his debut album. About the song, Sonic Løland says, “Soon after I bought my first piano and moving it into my small apartment in downtown Oslo, I came up with the idea for the piano part which forms the basis of the song. It is also the piano recording from the living room this particular day we hear in the final version.” Some wholesome words from Sonic Løland. Check it out on Spotify too. Sonic Løland · Up To You

Skinny Dippers – “Wedding Ring”

Brooklyn-based band Skinny Dippers‘ most recent single, “Wedding Ring,” bears a smoothly satisfying build-up, especially considering how soft it starts and how hard it crescendos. The lyrics “can’t say I love you so I’m looking for a synonym” hit the ear with such a charismatic breathy tone, they stay there with the same permanence as an actual engagement ring. The song was notably produced by buffaBLOG featured artist TOLEDO, whose trademark warm-and-comforting brand of indie rock is on full display here. The story being told entails a steamy love affair gone wrong and is told like it’s coming from a script. “Wedding Ring” hit the public February 11th, 2022 and I think it will stay here a while. Check it out below via Bandcamp or on Spotify: Wedding Ring by Skinny Dippers

Loose Buttons – “What’s On Outside”

Conquering a cold concept with style, the New York four-piece band known as Loose Buttons brought the title track of their sophomore album What’s On Outside to the big screen. The five-minute motion picture shows Loose Buttons righteously performing their unique guitar-pop in their natural habitat. “What’s On Outside” speaks to those who have lost something or someone and struggled to save themselves, which I think is a lot of us. Loose Buttons provide that second half missing from your glass whether it’s half full or empty. This isn’t the first time we’ve dug a Loose Buttons song either – check out “First to Know, Last to Understand” too. Check it out on YouTube below:

Fletcher Gull – “HAPPYSADSONG”

If you’re sad, fear not; Fletcher Gull is the first artist in history to simply slap the word “happy” in front of “sad” and see results. Well, it wasn’t that easy, he converted that concept into a song titled “HAPPYSADSONG” and it sincerely brought a smile to my face. The song’s actual meaning is about feeling gloomy with these intermittent flares of optimism, promise, and a bittersweet love for life. I highly recommend watching the music video to visually see the familiar feeling inside all of us. Besides, the truly captivating aspect of Australian singer-songwriter Fletcher Gull is how unapologetically expressive he is behind the mic and evidently in front of the camera Check it out below via Soundcloud – it’s also on Spotify and Apple Music.
