Rees Finley – “Talk To Me”

We just can’t get enough of Rees Finley – last time we checked in with him, we were digging his ode to the downtrodden, “The Band Broke Up.” This time around, he’s released another juicy, frenetic pop nugget called “Talk To Me.” This LA solo artist really knows how to write a pop hook – fans of Maroon 5 or Bruno Mars will be into his stuff. “Talk To Me” has a music video too – check it out here. Locomotive Ghost – “Lightning Bolt”

Locomotive Ghost are a Calgary quartet who make charming indie pop tunes. We recommend “Lightning Bolt,” a whimsical song with lots of start/stop rhythms, piano flavorings, and a powerful chorus. LG combines strong male/harmonies with extra attention paid to melody. Fans of Of Monsters and Men, Eisley, or Gotye will dig this one. You can buy “Lightning Bolt” here. LA BÊTE BLOOMS – “Low Hummer”

LA BÊTE BLOOMS sent us over their VHS-esque video for “Low Hummer” and we want to share it with y’all. This quartet from the UK fuzzes everything out in this shoegaze-tinged slacker rock jam. In essence, if you combined Slowdive and Pixies, you’d get these dudes. They basically drowned themselves to get the footage for this video, so be sure to give it a whirl. Snag “Low Hummer” on Bandcamp while you’re at it.

Catholic Action – “Doing Well”

Upbeat, catchy, and optimistic – a combination of adjectives that don’t typically apply to indie rockers these days. Catholic Action, however, have written something happy here, so we’re happy to toss “Doing Well” your way. This guitar-driven tune from this Glasgow quartet is sure to perk up your day. Take a peek at Catholic Action’s Bandcamp while you’re at it. Donnie Castle – “Oooh”

We’ve all been through a destructive breakup… Well, most of us at least. If so, you can surely relate with Donnie Castle‘s new jam “Oooh.” Donnie combines muted guitar, pulsating synths, and a deep grooving drum beat with altered vocals – the result is something mysterious and vibey for fans of house and synth pop alike. “Oooh” is available on a variety of formats. Horseflies – “Cake Delivery”

Horseflies are a rowdy group of dudes… This quartet from the UK hooked us in with their latest offering, the bendy, guitar-driven goodness of “Cake Delivery.” Falling somewhere on the spectrum between Hot Snakes, Bloc Party, and good-old-fashioned punk rock, this one is sure to get your adrenaline pumping. Be sure to visit Horseflies’ Bandcamp page.

No Way Back – “Minute (feat. Sophia Black)”

If you’re in the mood for some passionate West Coast House, we think you should give “Minute” a shot. LA producer No Way Back teamed up with vocalist Sophia Black for this four-minute slice of upbeat, hip-hop inspired house. Great weekend vibes (even for a Tuesday). “Minute” is available via a variety of platforms. Illacuda – “Stop Calling”

Vancouver quintet Illacuda hit us up with the brand new music video for “Stop Calling” and we dig it. Beyond the abstract visuals and haunting imagery of the video, we’re loving Illacuda’s use of swirly guitars, washy drums, and the Morrissey-esque vocals. You can tell Illacuda takes influence from both the 1950s and 1980s. Snag “Stop Calling” from Bandcamp if you dig it.

Shadowgraphs – “Scarlet Tunic”

Psychedelic quartet Shadowgraphs have a banger on their hands with their latest single, “Scarlet Tunic.” The song has a real pep to its step, finding the North Carolina-based quartet experimenting with fuzzy guitars, echoey vocals, and a never-ending drum and bass assault. Fans of music from the 1960s and neo-psychedelic bands like The Black Angels will like “Scarlet Tunic” Swing by their Bandcamp for a preorder of their next release, Venomous Blossoms. Weird Milk – “This Close”

These guys mix a 60s mentality with 80s sentiment and a bit of Alex Turner flavoring… We’re talking about Weird Milk, a London quartet who we think are on to something judging by their latest single, “This Close.” Chorusy guitars and lo-fi production values channel the melodic side of the 80s – a perfect requiem from all the scuzzy indie rock currently flooding the scene. Here’s their iTunes link. Coyóte – “Dirty Work”

Glammy quartet Coyóte caught our ears with their latest jam, “Dirty Work.” The song is a dirty spiral into the mind of a manic pixie type, aurally envisioned through their use of blunt guitar work, dance-heavy rhythms, and soulful vocals. Fans of The Growlers or The Clientele will surely get down to this one. Peep the track below and be on the lookout from this plucky foursome. Mt. Doubt – “Tourists”

Mt. Doubt is an Edinburgh-based collective whose “Tourists” has been on rotation in the buffaBLOG office as of late. Most notable is frontman Leo Bargery’s distinct baritone delivery, which saunters smoothly overtop the band’s warm indie rock instrumentals. Fans of Morrissey, Father John Misty, or The National should give this one a spin. “Tourists” is available on Bandcamp. Baby Galaxy – “New Flavors”

Baby Galaxy is a trio from the Netherlands with a pretty stellar new single… “New Flavors” is wrangled and loud, highlighting bent guitar chords, aggressive basslines, and pounding drum beats. There’s a hint of 80s noise and college rock in there, but all in all this rowdy single sounds fresh and fun, especially the explosive ending. We’re sure you’ll like this one, so head over to their Bandcamp page and snag it. Heron – “Ender”

On their new song “Ender,” post-rock quartet Heron were “trying to capture the feeling of being submerged in a violent sea.” Let’s just say the seven-minute track does a good job at taking you on that journey… The instrumental band uses guitar to emulate tumultuous waves and an eerie calm before swelling back into a maelstrom to finish things up. Fans of Explosions in the Sky, Pink Floyd, or Kyuss will dig this one. If you’re digging these vibes, snag “Ender” on iTunes. Oliver Riot – “Omen”

Identical twin duo Oliver Riot caught our attention recently with “Omen,” a gentle alterna-pop offering along the lines of Passenger or James Blake. The twins, aka Alexander and Benjamin Moore, recently won first place in the Grammy’s “Rock The Mic” competition and for good reason – their use of violin, cajon, and other left-field instruments gives their music an incandescent and classic feel. Give ’em a follow on Instagram too.
